About a couple of days ago I'm sure I saw that Open Office was offering a DVD file download of their latest version. It was including versions for Win. Mac and Linux all on the one DVD. Now, after buying a DVD burner for my 'puter, I have been unable to find that information again.
View 4 RepliesSince open office is now bought by oracle I am confused about the state of the latest version of OO version 3.2 I think. Would it be legal to install that version on a computer. Oracle perhaps made a bummer with this. The real dev community is thrown out and we are again looking at corporate greed taking precedence for their own profit rather than development of technology. I have high hopes from libre office but then one more open source product (it was not sun's to begin with remember) being swallowed by a corporate.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf I go to the website and download the ISO file is it the exact same one that was released in April or will it contain the latest patches (e.g. security fixes, etc) that have been release since then? If it doesn't I suppose I'll have to download the entire ISO file, install the OS, and then have another couple hundred MB to download which is not what I'd prefer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust last week I upgraded to F14. Just today I did the latest yum upgrade, and it included an update on Open Office. (1) I now have Open Office 3.3.0 OOO330m14 (Build:9542). According to the OO Web site, version 3.3.0 is still beta!!! 3.2.1 is still the stable release for download. What is Fedora doing? But that's just a general question; here are some specifics. Printing is virtually broken.
(2) Just opening the File -> Print window takes almost 5 seconds. The blue bar along the bottom of the window shoots across 8 times!! I'm hoping this is not the price paid for the new feature of having an unreadable copy of page 1 appear on the left side of the "Print" window!
(3) The "Properties" button is definitely broken. Click it and select the "Device" tab. I set "Printer Quality" to "Draft Grayscale." Then suppose I print 5 pages. Then I want to print the next 5 pages. The Print Quality is back to Normal! And that's without even closing the document, much less closing OO. Closing OO should save the printer settings for a document. But printing two times in a row without closing the document should definitely preserve the settings I make. It doesn't.
(4) Under System -> Administration -> Printing, I set the print quality for the printer to Draft. That also is completely ignored by OO.
(5) In OO Tool -> Options -> Load/Save I have checked "Load printer settings with the document." That should surely imply that when you save a document, the printer settings are saved with it. They either are not or they are not loaded or they are ignored.
(6) When I select the page numbers to print, that is so slow, the numbers don't even appear the instant I type them. That blue bar across the bottom of the window keeps shooting across until all the numbers finally appear.
(7) Under System -> Administration -> Printing there are two driver choices for HP Officejet 5600: hpijs and hpcups. Neither makes any difference for this behavior.
(8) I have several printers. Not even the printer I selected for doing the printing is preserved from one set of 5 pages to the next.
Who has ruined everything? Fedora or Open Office? On a more practical level, any ideas? Am I missing something? I've used OO with Fedora for years. None of this ever happened before. I NEVER had to select the printer and reset printer quality EVERY TIME I printed without closing a document. Plus, for any new document, the printer quality options in OO would be set to what I specified in System -> Administration -> Printing.

Its called "Income.ods" and is quite important and I cannot seem to recover it. When I double click it, it shows the Libre Office Calc splash screen shows up then goes away and the nothing, no error messages, no nothing. I tried to open it on my Windows Vista machine and it said it was corrupted and could not open in Office Word. I tried a few recovery tools but to no avail.

FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.
I was working on a text file in open office writer last night, and this morning i tried to open it and a little thing popped up saying "ASCII Filter Options," prompting me for which character set, language and default fonts I wanted to use. (only after it asked if i wanted to recover the document, which i just did since it was asking me...) Now the document, which was very important, is a scrambled bunch of random characters! I cannot find the correct character set. Why is it prompting me for which character encoding I am using in the first place?

The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running F11 x86 and want to update to F13 x64, so a new drive and fresh install and copy all the config & data from old drive. and Prey, a lot....I'll be installing F13 x64 later this weekend, But F14 will be out in a few months then F15 and so on.I've tried the upgrade option (x86 to x86 in the past) on the install dvd but it doesn't work and I wind up with a broken install and have to do a fresh install after saving most of the import data and config files, but I usually missing something and get hosed. Part of the problem could be using Nvidia drivers for video and several applications installed from several different repos.I've never been able to safely uninstall the Nvidia driver and still have a working system, let alone upgrade to a newer version and still get a visible desktop.
I was thinking that couldn't I just edit a yum file and point it to a new repository and have it upgrade the machine with out all the fuss?I followed a procedure once or twice on how to do a inplace upgrade, but that didn't work either. I'd like to keep the machine running the latest bits, but with all the pain and suffering I need a simpler method to do it. Is there a procedure or process I can run or follow to keep Fedora in sync with the latest release with out having to continuously swap disks, reinstall and copy critical data files?
I downloaded the latest release, burned a disk and successfully booted. When it comes time to choose a partition I don't have the option of replacing the old release. I can install in parallel leaving both but can't use the whole disk. Interestingly enough I CAN replace the windows installation. Of course I already have Grub installed but I don't see how this would affect installing. I read the article here [URL] and it seems I may have missed a step. However it's implied I will lose the current Grub installation. Is that the case?

I installed this dual-boot system only a few months ago and have continually added some new packages and updates with very few problems. However, now something has happened that really baffles me --- An error in the bootup process that I have never seen before and one that I have been unable to solve.
The problem I had been doing some programming (in Python) and after having the laptop on for several hours, I did a graceful shut down. Then, the next morning I turned on my laptop and the following is what happened:

I have tried the recommendation in B. to use 'chkdsk /r' in Windows. This took about 3 hours and had no effect on the error message. I also had made backups using "Back in time" which I tried (at least some of the directories) but none of these recovered directories had any noticeable effect on the error. This seems to be some basic device mounting problem that for some reason occurs only with the latest release and was triggered by some unknown event

An example of what I would like to change is the default outline format, I prefer the 1st option in the 2nd row (when going to format --> bullets and numbering), but I have to select it every damn time I have to do bullets, which is pretty much 50 times a day). I also HATE tab stop for bullets, I think they are horrible for placement and I prefer a space over a tab stop (I don't get how anyone can functionally use tab stop in outlines, once you hit III. it does a FULL TAB and throws off the alignment completely). I've complained about this to the developers and....they have bigger priorities.

For some reason the unmentioned former disto, I could not get wireless networking under this configuration and a simple wlan0 interface, in case either cable were to sever it would retain a wireless. The bonding was done for speed, and I believe I can't get faster than mode=4.
When I try to convert a word document using the ooextract python script from open office like

the open office deamon (sOffice.bin) takes 100% CPU load forever.

We found out that this appears only with our test document, other documents can be converted without problem. But how can we find out what's wrong with our document. How can we enable traces/loggin o the sOffice.bin process?
