View 3 RepliesIf I go to the website and download the ISO file is it the exact same one that was released in April or will it contain the latest patches (e.g. security fixes, etc) that have been release since then? If it doesn't I suppose I'll have to download the entire ISO file, install the OS, and then have another couple hundred MB to download which is not what I'd prefer.

View 1 Replies View Relatedrawest of recruits when I comes to Linux, so pardon me for asking a question that must come up constantly. I've done keyword searches and related questions pop up, but not the most fundamental of all, namely -- How do I create a USB boot drive that will pop me into the latest edition of Ubuntu? Please guide me to a VERY specific guide, because I have looked all over Robin Hood's barn and back, and have found all manner of questions from people who can't get a USB boot key to work -- but nowhere have I found a simple, step-by-step guide for creating one in the first place. If I'm at the wrong forum, please guide me the right one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 10 just yesterday. Everything was working just fine. The auto-update function advised me to download and install the latest updates and so I did. It was over 300 MB. I installed it, did a reboot and my internet connection was lost. I tried a few things I found on this forum yesterday. Nothing worked. I can go on-line on the same computer using windows 7. But I always have to reboot to try the different solutions. All right that's fixed! But now I just have to fix Firefox...

View 4 Replies View Relatedi want to copy the latest 10 files from one holder to another. All the files start with the number 2 and this is what i have so far:
lt -lt 2* | head -10
So i want to copy that output of 10 files to another folder
Consider the following scenario: you have two disks that are kept synchronized by some method. Could be RAID, could be LVM snapshots, could be a script. However, something has gone wrong. The disks are out-of-sync and you don't know which disk received which updates. You want to manually re-sync the disks but how do you figure-out which file to copy where?
I'm thinking of saving recursive directory-listings of the entire disks to text-files. Sorting them on last-update and removing all identical entries from the files.
I have a feeling that this is something that can be done with just a few command's but I need some help to get me started.
I tried the following command with no succes (all with sudo):
update-grub
aptitude safe-upgrade
aptitude full-upgrade
[code]...
Here is how i am isolating the 7 latest files
Code:
ls -ltr | tail -7
is there a way to give that negated list to the rm command? or should i be using the find command with an exec {}?
I see a few guides for Ubuntu on a thumb drive, but will it work for Kubuntu?

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to find the latest modified directory. I know that the command 'ls -rtl' gives the latest modified file/directory at the end. But my specific requirement is: If I create two directories named dir1, dir2 in the same order. so now my latest modified directory is "dir2". Now inside each directories, I created a file. Now in the last, I modify the file in "dir1". So overall, the content of dir1 got modified recently. If I use the command 'ls -rtl', this will still show dir2 as latest, as it is created recently. But I want the directory in which any internal content at any sub-hierarchy modified recently. so with what linux command I'll get this latest modified directory (dir1)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince open office is now bought by oracle I am confused about the state of the latest version of OO version 3.2 I think. Would it be legal to install that version on a computer. Oracle perhaps made a bummer with this. The real dev community is thrown out and we are again looking at corporate greed taking precedence for their own profit rather than development of technology. I have high hopes from libre office but then one more open source product (it was not sun's to begin with remember) being swallowed by a corporate.
