View 7 RepliesThis is old P4 laptop, Intel845G graphics (which I know is very troublesome). However, it works fine with the 2.6.35.22, but the update to 2.6.35.23 kills X during the boot process. Everything else works fine.Anyone else experiencing any difficulty with X and this kernel update?

The latest Kernel update (2.6.35-25-generic) killed all my sound output on my Toshiba Satellite M115.
I tried reinstalling all ALSA components and plugins. No luck there.
Rebooting into 2.6.35-24-generic fixes the problem, in that my sound works again.
Dual Boot: Fedora 12 and XP Dell 505I've had trouble with the latest kernel update.I updated a bunch of packages recently (including Xorg and kernel), and noticed a severe flickering after the update on my center monitor (Samsung T260 - the laptop display did not exhibit the flickering behavior). I backed out all the changes and started updating package by package. After I updated the kernel (again) I rebooted and here's where the fun part is -
I no longer get anything, except the cursor. No grub menu, no grub prompt. I rebooted and ran the rescue disk and followed the procedurery and point grub at the right boot partition - see here. However (obviously or I wouldn't be posting) that failed to work. I still get a blinking cursor and dead system on boot up.

Since the rollout of the latest 8.10 kernel update (2.6.27-11) my machine has been very messy. During the update the initrd was not building (showing errors). I managed to build the initrd manually and then it worked for a while.
But since a few days the kernel fails again completely. It looks like many kernel-modules are not loading BUT dmesg & syslog do not show relevant errors.
The result is:
- no networking
- no cpu frequency scaling
- no nvidia driver (nv drivers works normal)

I have been on Linux since 2003 but have never seen this before.
As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTwice now I have received update notices informing me of header upgrades which I installed, both required a restart of the system. Usually when this happens there is an additional item in the grub menu. The last two times this has happened I didn't get an additional menu item. What is the latest stable version? I am currently running:
2.6.32-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 20 14:21:58 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I did try a "sudo update-grub2" and the menu didn't change.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 side-by-side with Windows XP.
Today, all of a sudden my system kept freezing up, forcing me to manually power-down my computer. Well, I tried picking an earlier kernel to boot from and, sure enough, there was no longer a problem.
I've searched a dozen or more threads, some say there is no such thing as rolling back an update, others say it can be done, but I can't find one that outlines how to do it.
