Ubuntu :: Unwanted Key Ring Protection On Network Pass?
Dec 14, 2010
Because of a hard disk failure I had to buy a new disk and reinstall Ubuntu 10.04. Prior to the install I was running the live cd version of 10.04. When I connected to my wireless network and entered the password the key manager wanted me to enter a password to protect the network password. Now every time I boot up the system the network will not automatically connect. (It used to do this). Now I have to click on the network manager and select my network. When I do this I get the key manager asking for a password.
So how do I stop the key manager nonsense and get the network to connect automatically as it once did.

I run in a script a mailx command like this:cat logfile | mailx -s'the logfile' to-me@..This works most of the time, but in some cases mailx automagically turns logfile into an attachment called 'attachment.bin'.I think this may be because 'logfile' contains a few control characters or escape codes? How can I tell mailx to be less intelligent and treat it as an ASCII text file?

When I choose the network password type WPA for example it doesn't work. Currently on my Dell Inspiron 1750 64 Bit am dual booting Ubuntu and Linux mint. I have the driver installed for the wifi card (Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver). Installed on both Ubuntu and Linux Mint, I don't know if there the exact same but very similar if not. So now I will get to the problem. When I click the wifi network button (Ubuntu is top right on panel, Linux Mint is bottom right on panel) and click the network I want to join the pass key box pops up.
But when I click the down arrow (WPA & WPA2 Personel selected by default) it just highlights the default selection, already stated. The weird thing is it does it for both Linux Mint and Ubuntu now. See, it didn't do that before I installed Linux mint and just had ubuntu. Wish I could post a screen shot but it would be a hassle without having the computer with Internet. I tried changing themes still does the same thing. Right when I installed the driver it worked fine with my home internet where I installed it using a ehternet cable. But now that I am trying to connect to a new network and it does this.

This worked for me rename the wireless network (ssid) only one word and no caps and it fixed both problems lol!! I guess they don't like multi word {SSid

I have stop using debian some months but I decide to come back. Yesterday I have make a clean install of debian squeeze. The network manager never rember my wireles password. Every time I open the pc it ask me the keyring password and the wireles password. Why network manager can't rember my passwords? Also I have a strange problem when I try to gain root acces. If I try to open synaptic or to mount a ntfs partion it ask me the root password but every time I type my root pass it says that its incorrect but I am absolutely sure that I type my root pass correct. Also if I try to gain root acces from terminal with su its became the same thing but after some tries it takes my pass as corect. So every time I type my root pass from a gui like gksu it always says that is incorect but if I type my pass in terminal it take it correct after some tries. In the past I have again installed the debian from the same cd on the same pc but I had never those problems. What can be wrong?

The university I go to uses a WPA2 wireless network that requires a netID and password to connect too. I installed wicd but I can't seem to connect to this network, is there a way to add this functionality to wicd, and if so, how do I do that (links to a how-to or guide would be nice, I've yet to find one).
Also, I spend most of my time on campus in the command line, so I'd like to know if there is a way to use command line utilities to connect to this network (again, a guide or how-to would be nice)
I can get online through my fedora live USB just fine (w/ network manager) but I'd rather get on directly from slackware.

I'm trying to pass multiple dpmains thru one ubuntu server to various hosts on my local network.
[url] should be sent to the /var/www folder on the local host.
[url] should be forwarded to an IIS box on my local network (owa.nunya.local)
[url] should be sent to another ubunto box on my local network (smtp.biznet.net)
I have tried placing VirtualHost entries in /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and [url]and [url] both work but [url] gets forwarded to the c:inetpub folder on the IIS box.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid -- I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 which also had kubuntu desktop installed. After entering my username and password in the user login screen, I'm prompted for my key-ring password even though my key-ring password and my user login password are the same. How can I have key-ring password prompt automatically use the password entered at user login?

I have a Fritz!Card PCI which I used to display and log calls to my phone on Windows XP with. Now that I use Ubuntu Maverick x64, I tried to do the same with isdnlog. Logging the calls to /var/lib/isdn/calls works fine, but the START command doesn't work.
I have experimented with different parameters (user, group, interval, time, flags) in the start section, nothing worked.
I have read this tutorial to get started. The installed version of isdnlog is 1:3.12.20071127-0ubuntu6.
Here you see the files:
/etc/isdn/isdnlog.isdnctrl0
Code:
# This is a very short summary with the important options.
# for a longer descriptions of all options : please read isdnlog(8)
[options]
#log=1 # log d-channel messages. value may be 0-15 (bit coded flags)

I am having issues getting the modem it the dial-in server I have set up to answer on the correct ring. I have the /etc/inittab set:
Code: S1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -n 7 -x 6 -D ttyS2 yet I have to play with 'init q' and minicom to get it to answer on ring 7. Then a reboot destroys the setting and I have to go through the whole hassle again and it goes back to answering on the first ring.
This is not acceptable. This dial-in server is only a very back door into my network. It is only turned on when needed. Most of the time it is not powered up. When it is turned on it is by a non-tech person with out the ability to jump through the hoops to get it to answer on the correct ring.
Ideally I want this modem to just listen to the line after it stops ringing to check for a data signal and if it does not find it just hang up. If it finds a data signal then establish a connection and all that. That way it does not interfere with answering machine on the line. Google has yielded very little info about setting up dial-in servers. Modems are not used very much any more.

Evolution keeps asking me asking for the passwords for the mail servers I use for the key ring. And sometimes crashes if I try to cancel. I mean it asked yesterday and then again today. Is there anyway to reset the key ring passwords and start from scratch.Apparently to many things use key ring so it can't be removed.

Due to the fact that with pulseaudio it is impossible to change the microphone/speaker/ring devices in skype, I had to remove pulseaudio.
After that I can choose a device in skype, but the mixer does not work anymore. There is a way to have a working mixer without pulseaudio package or a way to choose audio devices in skype with pulseaudio installed?!

Just installed sid on a new system and I'm having a problem with pulseaudio.I have a motherboard with built-in Realtek audio, and the system should use that for everything except the system bell, which goes through the internal PC speaker that's connected to the motherboard. It works that way on the console. If I type C-g in Emacs, the pc speaker beeps, same with bash completion etc, while aplay will play wav files through the external speakers connected to the sound card. It's perfect.
Now in X, pulse doesn't know what to do. It defaults to the external sound card speakers, so they play all "normal" sounds (like music files) but when I type C-g in Emacs, there's a drip sound that comes out of the speakers. The internal PC speaker doesn't beep at all.I'm using GNOME 3, and I like it, so I can't just purge pulse because it wants to take GNOME with it. If I go to setup > sound, "Line Out - Built-in Audio" is selected, but I have another option for "Analog Output - pcsp" ... that's the snd_pcsp module for the internal speaker. If I select that, it plays the same sound files but through the internal speaker. So when I do C-g in emacs, the beep does come from the internal speaker, but it's not the normal beep you hear in the console -- it's actually the same ogg (or wav or whatever) file that makes the drip sound from the speakers! And worse, if I sleect the pcsp option in setup, it uses the internal speaker for EVERYTHING - including playing audio music files, watching YouTube, whatever! And naturally the sound is very horrible and fuzzy.
Is there any way to tell pulse that I want to use my motherboard's soundcard for everything but the beep, just like in the console?
