Oct 1, 2010At some point, the install process asks whether to test internet access. I replied Yes, and the test failed. Retries also failed, leading me to conclude, mistakenly, that the ethernet card was not supported by SuSE 11.2. Finally I elected to skip the test, resigned to the loss of internet access. The install program then proceeded to access online repositories without difficulty, and I had no further difficulty accessing the internet. So why the misleading test result?

Oct 17, 2010I ran a firmware test, after I discovered a bad memory stick on a 1 gb stick. Replaced my memory stick and just for grins ran a firmware test and I don't understand this:[Fail] Failed to locate HPET base [Fail] OS/2 memory hole test-The memory map has a memory hole between 15mb & 16mb.
Re-ran MEMTEST just to make sure my new memory was fine, no errors.My Linux OS appears to be running slower on boot-up than normal, What documentation there is on the internet on HPET is over my head.I ran SMART on the both drives. They were good. So I am a little stumpted.

Apr 20, 2011I installed openSuSe 11.4 on a Lenovo W500 and noticed this error message upon bootup. The desktop login doesn't make it to the screen. I went into fail-safe mode as root. I know the issue is attributed to the R600_rlc.bin located in /lib/firmware/R600_rlc.bin. I attempt to make some config changes but the file is in binary. It could be a problem associated with the creation of the initrd but not certain. It's a dual-boot system running Windows 7 on the other partition

Jun 14, 2010I'm running 11.2 KDE 4.3.5, recently every time I've tried to use the Updater Applet I get this error after choosing to install an update: PackageKit Error internal-error: Installation aborted by user. Then I run YaST to try to manually install the update and get the following error:

Aug 7, 2011this is a dual boot XP/UBUNTU 10.04. while using XP, the computer rebooted itself. the GRUB's screen appears, but neither the ubuntu nor the XP option works.

I got my wireless stick to work (Linksys: Wusb600n v2), installed Chromium, VLC and some other stuff... and ye. I want to get Compiz working on my system! I'm not sure that my current drivers can deal with it, thought. I'm not good at Linux and I don't know what should I install (if there is something) so that I can have get better performance from my video-card. I made HardInfo report of my system. What are my options? How can I make the performance better and, maybe, run Compiz?

Nothing to do. Used zypper dup to upgrade from 11.3. Still have boot problems (will open another thread), but had major problems upgrading timezone. File downloads would reach some percentage of completion, then B/s would slowly reduce, to zero. Upgrade would halt until manually aborted. Solution was to manually download 5 timezone files and install them in a directory repository. File download did not specify just the timezone file, but also a part of the directory. Could this be part of the problem? example: ./rpm/i586/timezone-2011d-0.2.1.i586.rpm instead of just the file name.System is a Dell 3000 (Pentium 4, 512MB memory).

I have found some success in doing so, however, I cannot for the life of me get any sound from my laptop under Debian even though the audio device (ATI RS690/780 HDMI) works perfectly under Ubuntu.

May 12, 2009I have just upgraded my openSUSE installation from 11.0 to 11.1 which everything is working great. Kudos to the development team and all those involved! I really like 11.1. One problem I have encountered is I cannot get clusterssh working. It appears to install just fine but whenever I try to execute like I did in 11.0 I get the following error: Connection to server failed -- (version 11.0) No protocol specified at /usr/local/bin/cssh line 1883
I tried to find a version for 11.1, rpm version that is, but no luck. I even download the source from SourceForge and still nada, same error. Not sure what is going on and looking for some assistance cause I really need clusterssh or another means to connect to several other machines to conduct changes.

OpenSUSE Install :: Crash During Update - RPM Failed Error
Jan 1, 2011So I installed this system with the net install disk. I really don't want to do that again. It said it needed one update shortly after install and I figured that a net install would pretty much be up to date and I would be fine to wait on that for a day or two. Wrong. I used bit torrent for about 20 hours and downloaded ~60 GB's to the external hard drive. After a while while clicked the little update button closed every thing else then hit apply.
Walk off, come back and the computer is completely non-responsive and the monitor is not getting a feed from the tower. Not even any num-lock blinky light action on the key board. I gave it a minute or two to show any kind of life then turned it off. It came back on well enough to get online and post this but, like the title indicates, that package manager appears to be broken in some way. In Debian based systems there is a command that clears this up. Is there an equivalent for this distro?
I attempted to finish the update but got this error:

The above pertains to a fire fox update of some kind. I still have the install disk handy but would rather not wait the 3 hours it takes to download the packages. How I can fix this. I switched from Ubuntu to SUSE because it is supported by online learning soft ware I have access to.

Apr 12, 2011I just installed opensuse 11.4 64 bit. Compiz and everything was working fine on my ati card (mobility 2600) with the default radeon drivers. I added the gnome 3 stable repo, updated fine. But when I rebooted I get booted into the fallback with no 3d effects and it says "gnome 3 failed to load" What gives? The drivers were working fine with full acceleration. I know gnome 3 works on this card, I tested it on the fedora live cd just fine.

So I inserted the disk into my computer and accept the terms of service and stuff and then it said that it failed to excecute bcdedit.exe. I'm trying to install openSUSE by Windows 7 by the way. I've searched the forum and found a tutoiral, but it was for Windows XP which is totally different to Windows 7 and not even the application names are the same in the CP.
