View 3 Replies View RelatedI followed (or at least tried to follow) tutorials on doing this. I installed network-manager-pptp and tried to configure network manager to connect to a VPN. In the settings when I select MPPE with 128-bit encryption, after I've selected it and applied it, I check the settings and it's invariably unchecked. I tried using KVpnc after getting frustrated with network manager, and I can't seem to get that working either. I've been trying to search for info on this, and I can't seem to find anything on why I can't select MPPE with 128-bit encryption. That seems like it might be why I'm unable to connect to the VPN?

NetworkManager always routes the whole network traffic over my home network if i am connected to the home network.If i set the "Use this connection only for resources on its network" I have do manually say:

After that only the correct traffic runs over the vpn. Now my question is it possible to setup the route via the networkmanager gui?

My situation is this: I'm running Ubuntu x64 10.10 'Maverick'. I have a cablemodem connection for my Internet access. I have home network running on DD-WRT with the dreadful Linksys WRT54G series router.
My DD-WRT router is 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0.
My Linux box is 192.168.1.61, subnet 255.255.255.0.
I have a VyprVPN connection set up successfully on Linux. Mostly everything works great, speed's fine, latency is what I expect it to be. Except... I also run an SSH server to remotely admin the box at port 22, an Apache server running over SSL at port 7001, and a Transmission web client at port 7002 (only secured by basic HTTP realms auth). All of these things worked before I got the VPN working, I'm of course using NAT at the DD-WRT router.
The endresult I am looking for, is to have the security and protection of the VPN (even if it's only perceived) for everything I do on this machine -- EXCEPT on Apache, the Transmission web panel, and the SSH server, which I want to access from the outside world. I have no firewalls running or configured, not even iptables, not even the SPI firewall on DD-WRT. All connections to the aforementioned services from the outside world timeout coming in to the Linux box. They all work from inside my home network (182.168.1.0/24). I am running Fedora 13 and using Ndiswrapper with my pci wireless card. my router is a netgear wgr614v9 wireless router with wpa2-psk. When I try to connect to my network the only options I see for security are dynamic WEP (802.1x) and WPA &WPA2 Enterprise and for authentication all I see is TLS LEAP Tunneled TLS and Protected EAP (PEAP). The network manager never rember my wireles password. Every time I open the pc it ask me the keyring password and the wireles password. Why network manager can't rember my passwords? Also I have a strange problem when I try to gain root acces. If I try to open synaptic or to mount a ntfs partion it ask me the root password but every time I type my root pass it says that its incorrect but I am absolutely sure that I type my root pass correct. Also if I try to gain root acces from terminal with su its became the same thing but after some tries it takes my pass as corect. So every time I type my root pass from a gui like gksu it always says that is incorect but if I type my pass in terminal it take it correct after some tries. In the past I have again installed the debian from the same cd on the same pc but I had never those problems. What can be wrong?

every time i configure my server all users can get thier IPs but they only go out with my server IP same as NAT not routing.

I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.
I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.

I'm trying to install a newer version of libevent than is on my machine, so I can install memcached. However, the install for memcached complains that the libevent library isn't in /usr/lib64 and that it isn't 64bit.What options do I need to pass to ./configure to get it to compile as 64bit and/or into the /usr/lib64 directory? I'm running Testing and need to pass some parameters to my bttv tv tunner card, for this reason I created the following file /etc/modprobe.d/kozumi.conf with this content:

The problem is that for some reason this options aren't properly set after booting the computer, I've tried different combinations for line 1 and 2 without success.
I'm used to rmmod the bttv driver and modprobe manually with those settings but I'd like to automate the process.
I have an issue that is fixed by changing the lpfc driver to run using MSI interrupts. This is done by adding "options lpfc lpfc_use_msi=2" /etc/modprobe.conf.local file.
Is there a way to make this change using kernel boot parameters?

I am running 10.04 and have recently had an issue where a powercut shut my computer down unexpectedly. Since this all the options from the network/connection part of my taskbar have been removed.I have run the OS from a boot disk and the same problem occurs. I have updated and re-added the mobile broadband but still nothing appears and as yet i have been unable to connect to the internet again since the powercut.am still learning everything (very slowly) so i apologise if this has been previously solved but i can't seem to find it on the forums.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Slicehost VPS and I'm trying to set up PPTPD on it. I only have one IP address (the public IP of the box). All the PPTPD howto's I've seen rely on assigning remote clients IPs from the local subnet (e.g. the PPTD server's local IP is 192.168.0.20, and remote IPs are taken from a pool of 192.168.0.30-40).
However I don't think I can do that as I only have the one IP address on Slicehost's network - that public IP (and all other IPs in the segment are public). So what I really want to do is to be able to create a private LAN segment or virtual network adapter and have VPN clients assigned addresses in that segment, then routed out onto the Internet effectively using the PPTPD box as a router. I am using Ubuntu Hardy (LTS).

I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
I have used ubuntu in the past but had a lot of hardware issues with it and unfortunately moved back to windows (( BUT i have tried Ubuntu again and all seems to work great except wifi My wifi connection is sort of working because when i run SUDO IWLIST SCAN it does pull up all available networks. But in the network manager icon on the panel i left click but i see no networks and can't connect to anything. I WOULD LOVE TO keep Ubuntu and use it permanently but I must get wifi working or else this won't be possible.
