Ubuntu :: Setting Up NX Web Companion To Use It With IPhone
Oct 27, 2010
My world of open source collided sharply with my current phone (from a company named after fruit). It's closed source is making me crazy. I was shipped one with an os that is laborious to jail break - so for now I am looking for a work around. Anyone have any luck setting up the nx web companion and using it on the phones browser? Ububtu 10.04 64 bit.
I've been looking around at how to set up a VPN server on an Ubuntu box that I can connect to from wherever from an iPhone. What I'm looking for is something like this: [URL]but it did not work (Connecting errored out).I've heard of OpenVPN, but will that allow me to directly connect from my iPhone to my home network?
I've searched through google, and all I can find are instructions on how to set up a L2TP/IPSec VPN that works with macs and iPhones. I'm NOT trying to set up an L2TP/IPSec VPN. I'm trying to set up a pure-ipsec vpn.
The iPhone IPSec client is a built-in cisco client, I believe. I'm staying away from L2TP and PPTP because I need multicast packets to go through. *edit: wow, i just noticed that the title says "8.10 LTS". Oops! I obviously mean "8.04 LTS". Gah, the lack of sleep got to me.
How do I get Media Companion to run under wine? All the other wine programs I had installed in the past had installers, but this one just runs from a folder after un-ziping.
I set the *.exe with execute permissions then right click "Open with Wine Windows Program launcher"
In the Ubuntu Lower Panel, it says "opening Opening Media Comp..." and then closes without warning/error.
I know Media Companion is written in Visual Basic .NET 2008 and normally requires Microsoft .net 3.5 runtime.
The first field identifies the file name, the second is the search key, and the third is the line number of the file that the search key points to. Any subsequent fields are other key/line number pairs.
As an example, I can search for 4151 (key) from my bash script to identify the file I will have to access, but I also need to capture the line (142) as well, and I can't figure out how to do that using grep, awk or sed (or anything else).
I am trying to install koha on centos 5.5. The manual tells me to install perl dependencies from companion CD. copy the usr_local.tar.gz to hard drive. But there are seven cd for centos. Which one is the right one for perl dependencies?
I have an iPhone 3GS and Ubuntu 10.04 x64 machine. When I plug in the phone it appears on the desktop.GTKPod opens automatically. When I close it and open RhythmBox, the phone disappears from the desktop.Looking at /var/log/messages, I see nothing about the iPhone being mounted. As an aside, I updated from 9.10 x64 to beta 10.04 x64, then upgraded to release 10.04.
I've just today received my copy of Ubuntu 10.04, and I have to say so far I'm loving it a whole lot more than Ubuntu 9.10. However I am having one problem with managing my iPhone 3G. The device shows up in Rhythmbox, but I am unable to add music to the iPhone library.
I'm using the iPhone 3.1.3 firmware, so I know that's not an issue. Has anyone got any idea as to how to solve this?
I have upgraded to 10.10 and have lost all ability to tether my iPhone via USB or Bluetooth on my Gateway LT24 series Netbook. I'm using an ASUS Bluetooth USB dongle. Here is the output I get to see the status of my connection:
In Blueman, I have my Bluetooth setup as a Network Access Point, dnsmasq enabled. PAN and DUN support are set to NetworkManager. I cannot change these to Blueman (not sure if I should be able to).
I really need my tethering feature to work. Or, should I revert back to 10.04.
I have the latest version of Ubuntu, but I still can't update the music on my ipod with rhythm box.So here is the deal. I put a handful of songs on my ipod using my windows computer at my parents house. Now, when I plug my iphone into my computer, the device shows up, and I am able to add and delete songs in rhythm box. The computer says it's working, and the ipod says its syncing, but once its done syncing, none of the old songs are deleted, and none of the new songs are added. Also, the old songs can't be played anymore. I've looked all around for a solution to this problem but no one can help.
When I plug in my iPhone to my computer, VLC starts and begins to auto run the videos from my phone. How do I go about stopping this? How do I get Ubuntu to just open up the file system on the phone?
Unbuntu doesn't recognize my IPhone 3GS. I get the error message: "Unable to Mount Don" (no wisecracks "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"
I tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop with the same results. My IPhone has a message that says: "Charging not supported with this accessory" Does anyone have a fix for this?
I have a ubuntu server , can advise if I want to change the network setting ( eg. IP address , gateway address etc ) , which one is the configuration file ? for example , if I want to change eth0 setting , what file I should update ?
is there a linux avi to iphone video converter? specifically .avi to .mp4? cause my iphone would only sync to itunes I was trying out windows based ones. but they all claim to be free then only convert the first 5 mins then demand money. so is there a linux one that will do the whole thing then I simply transfer the .mp4 file over to my virtual windows?
Decided to migrate my laptop entirely to ubuntu 9.10 karmic, Everything has gone well.Managed to sort my home network out and also setup a remote desktop connection to home server running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.I am having a complete nightmare with my iphone, I can plug it in and I get a camera icon on my desktop and the picture directory is mounted.I cannot connect it to GTKPod.I have tried searching for the usb rules in /etc/fstab/ but I am confused as to wether its reading it or my usb?dmesg produces this?
Code: [ 960.692439] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 2 [ 3402.628071] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
i decided to go ubuntu all the way in my laptop... it's already a week and freaking happy, however i'm new in linux so i wonder if someone can tell me how to add pictures to my iphone.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to set up iphone so I can install paachages to give commands like "ps", "top", "ping", "ifconfig", "apt-get"? I tried downloading them for the ubuntu respositories but there is no support for iphoneos-arms. So when I transfer the .deb package until my iphone it will not install with dpkg.My iphone is jail broken. Also is the an official linux/iphone forum. I tried googling but no luck
With Lucid Lynx, connecting is now a sintch. Obviously someone had the great idea of making another iPhone, thus making me spend more money. Question is: anyone have any problems connecting to Lucid with their new iPhone 4? I'd like to know about technical problems, if there are any, or good experiences in bringing music or (insert other functionality here) from Ubuntu into the iPhone.
Just updated my iPhone to iOS4.1 to take advantage of the HDR feature in the iPhone. It's great. Now I cannot sync with rhythmbox. Stay away from iOS4.1 - libimobiledevice is not up to it yet. Why must Apple make it hard for us linux users? (Think differently - as long as you use only our products).
I'm using ubuntu 10.04 for a while now And iPhone USB tether worked gr8 (even of the box if I remember well) Now, yesterday at home I upgraded my packages And now today on roads the tethering not working I think kernel got update too - 2.6.25 iPhone - iOS 4.0.1 Ubuntu - 10.04 - recognizing iPhone in rhytmbox and all. Just tether problem.
I am using Ubuntu 10.4 - and everything I have read says that i should be able to get amarok to recognise both my CDs and iPhone 3G running v4.0.2, and I should be able to rip the CD to my iPhone.
I can't even get amarok to recognise my iPhone.
When I try to copy CDs to the local collection (i.e. the HD) it does nothing - and no obvious relevant error messages - i get a couple of X Error: BadWindow errors in the console.
I'm relatively new to linux. I was wondering if there is any program available that will remotely access my iPhone. I have seen programs that let me controll my PC using my iPhone but i would like the other way around. The girlfriend doesn't have internet access at home and she's always texting me. Well if I find a program that lets me remotely access my device I can text her back without leaving the keyboard. OS: Ununtu 10.10 iPhone 3G Jailbroken (3.1.3)
