I am trying to get SQL-Ledger installed and running on my computer, which needs PostgreSQL installed to run.Currently, I am having trouble with it starting at boot-up. How can I access the appropriate log files in order to figure out what's wrong?
Also, I need to know what httpd is, and who the owner and groups using that might be on my system.
I have installed fedora 13 in my system. httpd server is also installed. when I tried to start the service of httpd, following error message displayed: Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80

I have just moved to rackspacecloud and created a Ubuntu 9.10 server. Moved everything over all fine (7-10 wordpress sites). Now I have a couple rails apps that need to move over and run on postgresql 8.4.
I installed postgresql via sudo apt-get as per usual. Usually at this point the postgresql server starts up and I can forget about it. But no luck. I booted it by running /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.4 start. When I run that command it boots fine, I can connect via psql no trouble.
I rebooted the machine to see what happened. After boot, apache and mysql started just fine, wp sites came up nicely no trouble. postgresql wouldn't start up.
I have tried installing from source, I have tried using different /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.4 scripts. I have no idea what to do.
I have downgraded to upstart to 0.6.3-10. I have apt-get updated, upgraded. I have Googled. I have pushed and pulled.
Usually with any linux issue in the past I have been able to find a solution on the net or work it out myself. This one stumps me to no end.
The other irritating part is that while I wait to work out this issue I am still paying for my old server running my Rails apps.
On this system httpd does not start on boot. I can manually start it without errors with service httpd start.

Where do I look to see why it wont start?
I'm completely stumped by a problem with httpd in Fedora 13. It fails to start on boot: I can see: Starting htpd: FAILED, in /var/log/boot.log, but I can't find anything else in messages, audit.log or anywhere else that gives me any clue why. The weird thing is that running:
run_init service httpd start
after boot _works_ and the server runs fine, but even when it's running OK,
service httpd status
reports
httpd dead but subsys locked
I'm guessing that the problem somehow relates to selinux, but I can't find anything in the audit logs that gives me a clue. How to turn on more logging so that I can get closer to the problem. I finally discovered the cause. This system was originally configured to use network services directly, without NetworkManager. It had been upgraded a number of times since installation. It seems that over time, if you have turned off NetworkManager, the defaults have changed. Used to be that the network services was 'enabled' by default (hence started at run time). Now, the default is 'disabled'. Httpd couldn't start because there was no network to start on. Enabling network services at boot time fixed this. I guess I should have noticed this. But one might think that httpd failing to start because of the lack of a network might at least give a warning message in the logs about the reason.

How would I make sure cron is running every time my server is turned on? I want to make cron jobs, but I need to know that it is running when the server boots. Also, I used a program at some point that was terminal based and it showed be what programs ran when the server booted up. It allowed me to check a box and select which programs I could run at boot. View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I have not gotten anything on the "General Help" I am posting this here: When a Ubuntu 10.10 I have starts up apache2, MySQL and postfix start properly but bind9 doesn't. Once booted is I run 'sudo /etc/init.d/bind9 start' it starts. The only thing odd on this system is I have a "inet6 v4tunnel" interface defined in my /etc/network/interfaces. Even with the bind debug level at set at 90 I do not get any more in the logs that what I posted before. The lack of errors in the logs is giving me no idea where to start. I commented out the IPv6 tunnel interface and rebooted and still no help. bind still is not starting at boot. OK, it is not a permissions issue, I have changed the config and zone files to be owned by bind:bind, root:bind, root:root and bind:root and it has made no difference. Doing a fresh install on a Virtual Box VM and configure it in a similar manner bind9 starts normally. (I am almost to the point where I will rebuild the box)
I have a file server running samba 3.4.0. I just upgraded ubuntu to 9.10. The upgrade was unfortunately stopped in the middle, but I think I managed to complete it.The problem is that now samba will not work after a reboot. The daemons are running, but any attempt to connect from a windows machine fails (Windows 7: the network path was not found). Manually restarting the service fixes the problem, but I need a more stable solution!Interestingly, I can ssh to the machine, or rdp to a virtual machine running on it.The logs don't seem to report any error:

My end goal is to have the machine boot and start the vncserver automatically, eventually using an ssh tunnel to make it secure. Basically what happens is the vncserver fails on boot however, if I login to the Fedora box I am able to connect and I get the GDM login screen. I have read many, many posts but have not been able to get over the boot issue. I really want to make this a headless box I can put in another room so I have more room for my musical gear.
Running Ubuntu Server 9.10.I have a couple of programs that I would like to start at boot, they will both run forever. I have created a cron job with @reboot and that will start a program, but if I have multiple programs in there it waits for the first to finish before starting the next.

The owner of the files is root and postgres users. I am using passwordless login to connect to server as user XYZ. XYZ has root access to the server and to the database.
These files are all over the place. Some in /etc and some in /var/lib for instance. How can I best copy these remaining files.

I don't mind using 8.4, but I need to recover the data from my 8.3 installation, But I'm not sure how to do this as I can't start the 8.3 server, and 8.4 can't read my old data directory.

My next step was to compile from scratch. However, I'm not real experienced with make/compiling and am fond of the organizational structure of RPMs.
The other option I could pursue is keeping 8.3 and installing an isolated 8.2 server for exclusive use by this app.

php5 is configured and running correctly. I verified the config using gallery2 ghcc (gallery host compatibility checker) and running a "test.php" (<?php phpinfo();?>). a2enmod php5 is enabled.
Whenever I try to run the install script in the http://mysite.com/gallery2/install folder, the "index.php" file is not executing it just downloads the "index.php".

I am tyring to setup my webserver on Fedora 10 to do the following.
first, i want to require logins when people access my machine. This i have working through the .htaccess file.
Second, i want directories that do not have an index.html file to be auto indexed. This is where its not working for me. I get a 403.
the only change from the default setting in the httpd.conf file is AllowOverride AuthConfig
it would seem that the default settings for are

AllowOverride None

IF i put an index.html file in sub/ i no longer get a 403, i just get that file.
I have Fedora 12 x86_64 installed in my computer. I have also installed system-config-httpd, but when I go to System --> Administration --> Server Settings --> HTTP, nothing shows up.
