Fedora Servers :: F15 Sendmail Service Not Starting On Boot-up?

May 29, 2011

Just upgraded to F15 and I cannot seem to get the sendmail service starting at boot time.It starts and works just fine by hand after boot, so there's nothing wrong with the sendmail
configuration itself."runlevel" shows a current run level of 5 and "chkconfig" shows sendmail on for run level 5.All the other mail service (mailman, clamd, etc.) start fine.Doing "service sendmail start" after boot gets everything up and running just fine, but itsure would be nice to have it run at boot like it used to

Fedora :: DHCPD Service Not Starting On Boot

Jan 19, 2010

I just installed F12 from scratch and I'm facing a curious situation with dhpd. The service is enabled, but It fails to start on boot. I see the following error on /var/log/messages:

Jan 18 17:15:28 neo dhcpd: No subnet declaration for eth1 (no IPv4 addresses).
Jan 18 17:15:28 neo dhcpd: ** Ignoring requests on eth1. If this is not what
Jan 18 17:15:28 neo dhcpd: you want, please write a subnet declaration

Jan 18 17:15:28 neo dhcpd: to which interface eth1 is attached. **

However service dhcpd start, works just fine when I login, after the system boots:

So it can't be a problem with my dhcpd.conf file.

Ubuntu :: Service Not Starting During Boot?

I'm having a problem getting my MPD service to start during boot. This started a week or so ago. It's no big deal, just a pain. It start fine when I run the script in a terminal. I changed the start priority with update-rc.d. I occasionally get a segfault message in my syslog and messages log. Not sure what it means.

Ubuntu :: Preventing Ssh Service From Starting At Boot?

Sep 22, 2010

Since my desktop (Ubuntu 10.4.1 for now) has no need for anyone trying to ssh into it, I want to prevent ssh from starting as a service when I boot up.

If I type: sudo update-rc.d -f ssh-agent remove

in terminal, will that stop the service for all boots (until I run: sudo update-rc.d ssh-agent defaults -- in terminal)?

I've already removed (unchecked) ssh agent key from my startup applications

Fedora Servers :: Vncserver Not Starting On Boot

May 21, 2009

I am currently using FC10 on a Dell 4600 with 2GB of ram. I love Linux as it is the most stable OS around. My end goal is to have the machine boot and start the vncserver automatically, eventually using an ssh tunnel to make it secure. My main problem is the vncserver is not starting on boot, I must login as a user then it works great. the error I get is

[Code]....

Basically what happens is the vncserver fails on boot however, if I login to the Fedora box I am able to connect and I get the GDM login screen. I have read many, many posts but have not been able to get over the boot issue. I really want to make this a headless box I can put in another room so I have more room for my musical gear.

I have the Samba server & users configured, I can access between Linux/Windows shares and both SMB & NMB services are set to be enabled at boot.Everything working. But when I restart the computer, I notice in services configuration that "This service is dead." for NMB. Therefore I have to enable it manually upon boot so that it works.I'm using Fedora 10, fresh installed and updated. I've noticed through search that others have had this issue as well throughout other versions of Fedora, yet I have not found a conclusive solution to this.

Ubuntu Servers :: Bind9 Not Starting On Boot

Mar 2, 2011

Since I have not gotten anything on the "General Help" I am posting this here: When a Ubuntu 10.10 I have starts up apache2, MySQL and postfix start properly but bind9 doesn't. Once booted is I run 'sudo /etc/init.d/bind9 start' it starts. The only thing odd on this system is I have a "inet6 v4tunnel" interface defined in my /etc/network/interfaces. From booting in the syslog there is:

Code:

/var/log/syslog:Feb 28 19:02:42 ubuntu named[1029]: starting BIND 9.7.1-P2 -u bind -d 9
/var/log/syslog:Feb 28 19:02:42 ubuntu named[1029]: built with '--prefix=/usr' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--sysconfdir=/etc/bind'

[code]....

Even with the bind debug level at set at 90 I do not get any more in the logs that what I posted before. The lack of errors in the logs is giving me no idea where to start. I commented out the IPv6 tunnel interface and rebooted and still no help. bind still is not starting at boot. OK, it is not a permissions issue, I have changed the config and zone files to be owned by bind:bind, root:bind, root:root and bind:root and it has made no difference. Doing a fresh install on a Virtual Box VM and configure it in a similar manner bind9 starts normally. (I am almost to the point where I will rebuild the box)

Ubuntu Servers :: Samba Not Starting At Boot After 9.10 Upgrade?

Mar 14, 2010

I have a file server running samba 3.4.0. I just upgraded ubuntu to 9.10. The upgrade was unfortunately stopped in the middle, but I think I managed to complete it.The problem is that now samba will not work after a reboot. The daemons are running, but any attempt to connect from a windows machine fails (Windows 7: the network path was not found). Manually restarting the service fixes the problem, but I need a more stable solution!Interestingly, I can ssh to the machine, or rdp to a virtual machine running on it.The logs don't seem to report any error:

Code:

Fedora Servers :: Sendmail Delivery To Local Boxes

Jun 1, 2009

I have fedora running as our email server at work using sendmail. It used to have spamassassin and MailScanner installed, but one of those died over the weekend and killed the mail server. We do not need either of these as we are using a web based spam filter now (postini), so I tried removing these. I have discovered that the mail is in the mqueue waiting for delivery to the users mailboxes. I have tried using "sendmail -q -v":

Code:
Running /var/spool/mqueue/n51Jx6Gg023820 (sequence 1 of 1174)
<abaughman@grandproductsinc.com>... Connecting to local...
<abaughman@grandproductsinc.com>... Deferred: local mailer (/usr/bin/procmail) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL

Running /var/spool/mqueue/n51JsuRe023619 (sequence 2 of 1174)
<ksullivan@grandproductsinc.com>... Connecting to local...
<ksullivan@grandproductsinc.com>... Deferred: local mailer (/usr/bin/procmail) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL .....

I do not have a procmail config file: /etc/procmailrc. I am not sure why, or what it should be, perhaps that is the problem. I guess I don't exactly know how this server runs all that well. I was able to get it up and running but never understood it enough to now find what is not working correctly.
