I found LKL on my computer. I need to remove it. It isn't showing up in synaptic and i can't figure out how to remove it. SUDO apt-get remove lkl tells me this. E: Couldn't find package lkl. i can't find it with the search and with google.
View 4 RepliesI've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

I installed 2.6.34 and no longer need 2.6.32-21. When I go into the package manager and mark it for removal...It looks like it tries to install 2.6.32-22 and 2.6.32-22 Generic and then upgrade Linux-headers-generic.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a little problem on my relatively newly installed 10.10 Lubuntu that I can't quite figure out. I'm guessing it is a piece of cake for most of you ubuntu-veterans so I'm hoping a kind soul would save my day: The last couple of weeks, the apt-get update (and corresponding button in synaptic) does not manage to update all of my repositories, and I get a "404 not found" error at the end (see attached text file (hope I did that right, am a longtime lurker but haven't posted anything much yet)).
I realize that I have been doing some adding of repositories, and have written the wrong command a couple of times, which may be the cause of this (at least the two frescobaldi ppa errors). What I don't understand, is how I remove these faulty(?) repositories, so that my system stops claiming being unupdated. After searching/googling the issue I tried looking for the corresponding entries in sources.lst, but to no avail.
ps. my system is in german, the messages say "W: Failure when getting.." and "E: some index files could not be downloaded, they were ignored or others were used in their place". (rather badly translated)
Ubuntu 10.04: I get the following error in Synaptic: "Could not download all repository indexes" "Could not get [URL]...86/Packages.gz 404 Not Found" (translated from Norwegian).[URL].. does not exist, but it does for Karmic (change lucid for karmic in the url). How do I correct this in Synaptic?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know how, but on my 64 bit machine I installed this 32 bit deb file: kobo-desktop.deb. I did that while using Ubuntu 10.04. Now I've updated to 10.10, and I can't uninstall it. Searching for "kobo" in Synaptic or USC only gives me a game, and using apt-get I get this error (I've included some output from the last command I run so you can see that my system does recognize that kobo-desktop is ins fact installed):

How would I remove a package in the selections listing in synaptic. Like remove it so no one will see it to install or remove it. Of make a custom filter be what it displayed by default in the selections list. Or set user privelages to not be able to install anything.? But still able to read and write to the hard drive.

I added the Liquorix repo to try out the spiffy kernel. It didn't boot so I uninstalled the kernel and went on my way. I'd like to get rid of the repo entry in Synaptic but when I click on "remove" nothing happens. The repo is oddly not in my sources.lst file.

When i try to install packages via ..synaptic package manager , it pops with an error saying.. it cannot connect to the proxy "172.16.1.5:8080". Yes ,of course it should not be able to,as i am not in that vicinity anymore. I have changed the settings to direct connection in preferereces->network in the synaptic package manager secondly,changed the network proxy settings and applied it system wide. thirdly, I configured the /etc/apt/apt.conf file.. changed it to Acquire::http :: proxy "false"; But, nothing will work, still getting that error.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThere's several threads dealing with overscan, but I've got an interesting twist in my setup that (I believe) is putting a kink into the proposed solutions. I'm trying to set up a media center PC with Ubuntu 10.~. The motherboard has built-in ATI graphics (3300 series), and connects to my television (Panasonic capable of 1080i) via HDMI. As can be expected, the overscan makes the top and bottom bars nearly invisible (as well as a portion of the sides).
When I run the Catalyst Control Center, it informs me that the monitor is a projector, not a TV. Try as I might, I can't convince the thing it's attached to a TV. When I run "aticonfig --tv-info", I am informed that a TV is not connected.
One question I could ask, though: does it matter? The reason I'm asking is that I can't find the "Configuration" menu option in the CCC that all the other threads talk about. I know where the little black triangle menu is, but there's no "Configuration" item in it. There's also (as best as I can tell) no way of adjusting overscan for a digital projector.
I was planning to re-install ufw. When I selected it and then install in Synaptic Package Manager a box appeared saying ufw was not authenticated.

I'm running the firestarter firewall and its been showing the odd ssh attempt quite often. e.g. I've had 4 attempts today, 3 in the last 40mins. I realize that this may be nothing to serious but it's got me curious, aside from having a secure password (which I have) is there anything that else that I can do to ensure that my system is as secure as possible from ssh? I do use ssh within my home network so I don't want to disable it completely.

I have noticed several times that after closing all web apps (Firefox, Thunderbird) that some entries remain under the heading "Active connections" on the Firestarter "Status" tab. Often these show no source program. Currently I have 2 showing which show Firefox as the source. These persist after Firefox is shut down. I have verified that no Firfox process is running. And both of the IPs point to google.I have Disconnected eht0 and they still show. I have logged out and back in and they still show. I must reboot the machine to make these entries go away. Which makes me think perhaps this is a bug in Firestarter(?) Is there another way I can identify truly active connections?

In doing other network playing with Ubuntu Sever 10.10 I noticed that on all traceroutes I did to any IP the second hop from my house jumped through a connection on IP 24.96.153.61 which I think should only be another dynamic IP Knology.net customer...
In scanning the IP I now know that its a Juniper Junos Router 9.2R1.10 (Probably running on some VMware based on googling?) Open ports show: 22 ssh openSSH 4.4 v. 1.99 23 telnet Openwall GNU/*/Linux telnetd
At first I thought this was just a legit Knology.net DNS server or something, but using such outdated versions and freeware... I feel suspiciously like this is something else. Also, why in the world would knology allow remote access to their mainframe equipment? Seems that if it were ever breached it would be beyond terrible for the ISP...
Finally, why can't people not SSH into my box from the outside if I have MAC address filtering on? Anyone know anything about this or am I just being paranoid? I'm a noob, so knowing too little about all this is probably more the problem?

I am doing this from /home/deploy directory I am trying to set up ssh with github for capistrano deployment. this has been an absolute nightmare. when I do ssh git@github.com as the deploy account I get Permission denied (publickey). so may be the key is not being found, so If I do a ssh-add /home/deploy/.ssh/id_rsa Could not open a connection to your authentication agent. (i did verify that the ssh-agent was running) If I do exec ssh-agent bash and then repeat the ssh-add then the key does get added and I can ssh into github. Now I exit from the ssh connection to my server and ssh back in and I can't ssh into github anymore! Scenario 2 if I login to my remote server and then cd into my .ssh directory and ssh into github then it all works fine I guess there is a problem with locating the key and for some reason the agent isn't funcitoning correctly.

I was surprised to find that it had found two 'viruses' . I don't know if anyone can help me in finding out if they are real or only false positives . The following is the output that I received .
