View 1 Replies View RelatedI really hate this warning when I try to open certain types of files in gedit: (using ubuntu lucid)
Quote:
Do you want to run File.c or display its contents?
"File.c" is an executable text file.
Open in Terminal; Display; Cancel; Run
Is there any way to remove the warning? I have never once clicked anything other than display, and when I'm opening lots of files, having to hold down ALT-D to get rid of these warnings.
I've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

I use ubuntu 9.10 karmic(x86). I was using a wifi network in my college, for which i used a proxy. Now i'm back home and am using a broadband connection. When i try to install packages via ..synaptic package manager , it pops with an error saying.. it cannot connect to the proxy "172.16.1.5:8080". Yes ,of course it should not be able to,as i am not in that vicinity anymore. I have changed the settings to direct connection in preferereces->network in the synaptic package manager secondly, changed the network proxy settings and applied it system wide. thirdly, I configured the /etc/apt/apt.conf file.. changed it to Acquire::http :: proxy "false"; But, nothing will work, still getting that error.
View 14 Replies View RelatedEvery time I log in, I get a "Boot Messages" indicator in my notification area. I click it and it shows me what happened during boot (uneventful, no error messages). I would like to remove this icon, it's very annoying. I can right click it and click quit but I don't like doing this every time I log in.
Is there an easy way to stop it from starting up (I couldn't find it in Startup Applications)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed F12 the other day and I've run into my first problem (this is not a knock, in fact this is probably the best release of Fedora 12 ever for me). Installing Skype from their website. I realise that I'm attempting to install an 1586 binary in x86-64 so it's risky, but that's not the point (yet anyway). I can't even get it to install. I've looked around and can't find anything meaningful on this (other than posts which provided no help). When I try to install the rpm from [URL] with the GUI, I get the message "This action cannot be completed" with the following under details: "The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files". I then tried to install it from a root terminal and got the message, "Package skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm is not signed". Is there a way to change this behavior? And is there a temporary workaround (say, for just this app)? All in all, I love this release, but I cannot recommend Fedora 12 to someone new to Linux without alleviating this issue for them (I'm set to do this tomorrow). This would hamper their efforts to learn how to do basic things, such as installing a random program like Skype.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a table T having a field F which should be able to store variable-length sequences of "unsigned" characters (8bit values ranging from 0 to 255 (not including 0, including 255)).(MAX_LENGTH) is not working, as it seems to want sequences of 8bit values ranging from 0 to 127 (thus "signed" characters). Can anyone help me by pointing out if there is a type suited for my needs (or if such a type does not exist)? For those familiar to C programming and working with the MySQL client library, I should be able to (successfully) do something along the lines of:
Code:
