Ubuntu :: Uninstall App Not Found By Synaptic Or Apt-get - Kobo-desktop

I don't know how, but on my 64 bit machine I installed this 32 bit deb file: kobo-desktop.deb. I did that while using Ubuntu 10.04. Now I've updated to 10.10, and I can't uninstall it. Searching for "kobo" in Synaptic or USC only gives me a game, and using apt-get I get this error (I've included some output from the last command I run so you can see that my system does recognize that kobo-desktop is ins fact installed):

Is there anyway of getting the new Kobo Desktop to work on Ubuntu? I found a thread on here for *forcing* the 1.8 version to work on Ubuntu but now that my Kobo has the 1.9 firmware installed it refuses to sync with 1.8.

This is my commit log that I got from synaptic. I was trying to compile a application but was getting too many errors due to dependencies that I didn't have installed and so I tried installing them but kept getting more errors so I decided to cancel the compile altogether so I can I easily purge all of these packages?

I can't install or uninstall packages using apt nor synaptic. when i try to install something, dpkg hangs on the unpacking stage. it will also tell me that file lists are missing from packages when i try to uninstall them. or it will tell me it cannot find an archive for various packages. dpkg --configure -a # does not work,

Synaptic 0.62.5. When uninstalling libusb-0.1-4, it removes many other unassociated applications (like gnome-desktop, evolution, the kernel in the /boot directory... not nice. See below with a simulated apt-get remove libusb-0.1-4.

I have a little problem on my relatively newly installed 10.10 Lubuntu that I can't quite figure out. I'm guessing it is a piece of cake for most of you ubuntu-veterans so I'm hoping a kind soul would save my day: The last couple of weeks, the apt-get update (and corresponding button in synaptic) does not manage to update all of my repositories, and I get a "404 not found" error at the end (see attached text file (hope I did that right, am a longtime lurker but haven't posted anything much yet)).
I realize that I have been doing some adding of repositories, and have written the wrong command a couple of times, which may be the cause of this (at least the two frescobaldi ppa errors). What I don't understand, is how I remove these faulty(?) repositories, so that my system stops claiming being unupdated. After searching/googling the issue I tried looking for the corresponding entries in sources.lst, but to no avail.
ps. my system is in german, the messages say "W: Failure when getting.." and "E: some index files could not be downloaded, they were ignored or others were used in their place". (rather badly translated)

I found LKL on my computer. I need to remove it. It isn't showing up in synaptic and i can't figure out how to remove it. SUDO apt-get remove lkl tells me this. E: Couldn't find package lkl. i can't find it with the search and with google.

Ubuntu 10.04: I get the following error in Synaptic: "Could not download all repository indexes" "Could not get [URL]...86/Packages.gz 404 Not Found" (translated from Norwegian).[URL].. does not exist, but it does for Karmic (change lucid for karmic in the url). How do I correct this in Synaptic?

Managed to get the desktop of the ubuntu 10.04 onto my windows xp workstation. But, I tried to run for example synaptic this way, but this seems not to be possible, think due to root rights needed. How to handle this? Is it possible to run synaptic via remote desktop and install programs?

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit today and I installed Adobe Air with no problems. I then installed the Pandora Desktop application and that installed fine as well. After the installation I saw a "do not enter" style sign in my status bar on the desktop. When I hover over it it's telling me an application has a broken installation. When I go into Synaptic and filter for broken I see "com.pandora.desktop.fb9956fd96e03239939108614098a d95535ee674.1" is showing broken. The description is just <> <>. Both Adobe Air and Pandora are working fine, and I'd be happy to ignore this warning except it's going to break my updating because it throws a warning every time.
Does anyone know how I can see what is apparently broken with the install or how I can suppress this message? I had the same versions of software running on 10.04 just fine before I formatted, and I'm the only person on the internet with this problem so far.I've gone over dependencies several time and don't see anything missing. I've tried reinstalling both apps several times. I don't know why this is even showing in Synaptic, since it's a sub app of Air...

So I have been thinking about switching to Ubuntu 32 bit, I currently running ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, I have been using it for a couple of months and it seems a little glitchy. Is 32 bit more stable? I just pisses me off cause when I install/uninstall something sometime my desktop UI appearence will change on me. Plus the firefox 64 bit flash is out of date,unless it has changed I read they stopped making flash for FF 64 bit.

I want to uninstall my openSuSE 11.2 from my desktop PC. I am currently running openSuSE on one of my other laptops, openSolaris on the other laptop, and I am going to run ubuntu on my desktop PC. I want to learn how to uninstall the openSuSE 11.2 without running a liveCD from another LINUX distro to do so. So my question is "How can someone uninstall openSuSE from within openSuSE itself ?"
The other reason is that my Windows XP on that HDD has had a massive failure and I want to wipe my hardrive completely clean and start anew!

I cannot uninstall Firefox, nor can I uninstall Chromium; one always stays if the other is uninstalled. For example, if I remove Firefox, Chromium will appear in its place and vice versa. This has got to be one of the weirdest bugs I've ever seen on Ubuntu! So, how can I uninstall both web browsers?

Recently I've been looking to try out a KDE desktop distro on my msi wind u100. Reading that Manriva and Opensuse are good distro that are 'KDE centered', I've been wanting to try them out. I dl'ed the iso files and used unetbootin and mandriva seed to install a 4GB usb drive.
On boot though, the linux kernel could not be found. I read through other complaints about this problem and it turns out that ubuntu's use of a old syslinux is the cuase.
Could someone write me a command line code that updates ubuntu 9.04 to the newest version if possible(safe to do so without killing m install)?
And can someone file a bug report asking for lucid lynx to have the newest version?

I have installed OpenSUSE 11.3 64 bit and want to install VMWare workstation 7.1. I have run the install script for VMWare without any issues. When I start the VMWare Workstation I get a window saying this: Before you can run VMWare, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel. During install of 9.10 server, both ethernet adapters were found. One is built-in to the motherboard, the second is on a PCIe slot. Selected the on-board adapter for eth0 during install, set fixed IP on the web, connected, updated, etc. w/ no problems. The second adapter is for the LAN.BUT, on first and subsequent reboots after installation complete the second adapter is not detected at all, as if it were not even plugged into the PCI or the driver not loaded. This happens on either of two slots, with two different adapters, Intel or Netgear, both pretty recent, and both of which are detected and work in a different box. 'Ethtool eth1' says device not found.This is a fairly recent motherboard 3N78EM).Since the adapter was found during installation I'm assuming that the problem is not with not the board. I've built several server systems with two or three ethernet adapters and have never run into this situation.

Ubuntu 9.10. System has been running fine for months. Today, tried to run Synaptic and get the following error: 'Failed to run /usr/bin/synaptic as root - unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file' Where invoking synaptic used to ask me for my password, it now gives the above error message. What I did today was change grub so that I boot to the command line instead of the gui. That worked fine and I can invoke the gui with startx as a normal user. sudo apt-get works OK from the command line.
