I added the Liquorix repo to try out the spiffy kernel. It didn't boot so I uninstalled the kernel and went on my way. I'd like to get rid of the repo entry in Synaptic but when I click on "remove" nothing happens. The repo is oddly not in my sources.lst file.

Apparently I didn't go about installing the actual Go-OO program from the repo correctly (i.e., I missed something crucial to actually run it), so I went ahead and reinstalled Open Office proper until I figure out exactly what I'm doing. (N.B: I'm still quite new to Linux and yum.)
Is there a way I can list yum installs strictly by their repository? That is, is there a command I could use to simply list every install that came from the "GoOo" repo? I'm aware that yum list installed returns repo info, but I'd rather be able to list by one repo at a time because (a) I want to very thoroughly clear off everything from the GoOo repo, and (b) it would definitely make it easier in the event that I have to perform any blanket removes in the future.I'm unable to find any single or short string of commands that does this, so I'm guessing either the answer is no or I'm overlooking something ridiculously simple.
I installed 2.6.34 and no longer need 2.6.32-21. When I go into the package manager and mark it for removal...It looks like it tries to install 2.6.32-22 and 2.6.32-22 Generic and then upgrade Linux-headers-generic.

Of make a custom filter be what it displayed by default in the selections list. Or set user privelages to not be able to install anything.? But still able to read and write to the hard drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use ubuntu 9.10 karmic(x86). I was using a wifi network in my college,for which i used a proxy. Now i'm back home and am using a broadband connection. When i try to install packages via ..synaptic package manager , it pops with an error saying.. it cannot connect to the proxy "172.16.1.5:8080". Yes ,of course it should not be able to,as i am not in that vicinity anymore. I have changed the settings to direct connection in preferereces->network in the synaptic package manager secondly,changed the network proxy settings and applied it system wide. thirdly, I configured the /etc/apt/apt.conf file.. changed it to Acquire::http :: proxy "false"; But, nothing will work, still getting that error.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.
I have used Debian Linux for two years, most recently the seventh or so iteration of Version 5. I use the Gnome desktop and the Synaptic Package Manager, not the Update Manager, for updates because it's easier to build a log with the former.In my most recent update, Synaptic stripped out all the xserver-xorg files�47 in all. I thought it peculiar but did not know enough to interfere. When I rebooted, the system told me I must install xserver or correct GDM configuration and restart.
Have I been hacked? Am I being tested by the Linux Illuminati? Or does it have something to do with the warning message I received at the end of the update-upgrade, attached? And how do I go about reinstalling xserver? With Aptitude? I have tried running apt-get -f install, to no effect.
Will KDE4.4 eventually move into the 11.2 updates or do I have to add the KDE Factory repo to get this update?

On one previous update I noticed that other packages that had not been installed from frickelpatz were updated with packages from there (i guess frickel had a higher version number - k3b i think the package was). So I would like to see what other packages it offers so I am aware of which packages are at risk. failing that is there a way to tell apt that i only want to use the repo for chromium and its dependencies?

I want to have most my system in Debian Stable and a few packages updated to a version that is not in Stable repos.For example Abiword. With the one in Debian Stable I have many issues.I could add Debian testing repos and update it, but then I will have to upgrade to testing a lot of programs that I didn't intended to upgrade.ex: Abiword in testing may requiere libc6(testing) and with that I would have to upgrade a lot of programs that will not work with a newer version of libc6.

I can't load the Debian multimedia repository, [URL], anymore in Synaptic. It says "404 Not Found." Did it change its address? I needed to download lame, and had to get it from another repository [URL] instead.

I copied the debian-backports file from /usr/share/live-helper/examples/source to config/chroot_sources(as debian-backports.chroot and debian-backports.binary) and fixed the first problem (had to change "etch" to "lenny" in the files.)
