Mar 20, 2011At the moment I use Rhythmbox to acces my music and my iPod 5G. I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).

Jan 19, 2010I have a weird problem here with a 9.04 server. We have a raid 5 disk formatted in EXT4 which remounted automatically when we accessed to the lost+found folder which is in the root of that disk.
I tried to delete it but I can't. It's a bit annoying because I have to prevent all users and backups to access to that folder.

Jun 29, 2010I upgraded my video card today on my dual booting windows 7 ult. x64 machine. I tried to go into safe mode to clean the old drivers out with Driver Sweeper, but when I boot I get a menu asking me which disk I want to boot from (Asus motherboard P5Q <green>) and I have gotten this before and I usuall just hit esc to use default drive and start pressing F8 repeatedly but it just goes to GRUB dual boot menu and there's no safe mode for windows listed. I also tried pressing F5 as that used to be the safe mode command, but it does nothing and goes straight to GRUB.

Jun 1, 2011So I upgraded Ubuntu and was greeted by Unity. I was unsure of it at first and figured I would give it a shot. It has failed miserably in almost every way aside from looking nice in some instances. It's slow, clunky, and was a total wreck to my efficient use of the computer. But they can't all be winners I suppose. I can see where it would be useful (since it seems more finger-friendly) on a tablet device, but I'm using a standard notebook, not a tablet.
That being said, I switched back to what is now "Ubuntu (Classic)" and have put things happily back on track. However, since I have no intentions of ever bothering with Unity again, I want to remove it - it's just wasting space. My questions are, would this be safe? Are Unity and Ubuntu entwined to the point where doing so would make future updating/upgrading a problem? If it is a problem for the future, I feel it would be easier to just change distros (Mint, OpenSUSE, or just Kubuntu) - any recommendations?

Oct 13, 2009I just installed grub2 on my laptop and everything works fine and boots right. It gave my the option to run
'sudo rm -f /boot/grub/menu.lst*' after the installation because it said it could not determine itself if these files were necessary to keep.
I'm not sure what files they are exactly, or how to find them either, but do people usually delete them after upgrading?

Mostly all went well, BUT /usr is now 100% full. I notice that there are duplicate files in /usr/lib, eg Oct 11 22:35 libgcj.so.10.0.0 and Sep 14 2008 libgcj.so.90.0.0 (I assume the latter has been replaced by the former?). Is it safe to remove the "outdated" lib files? Is there an elegant way of doing it?

Nov 8, 2015My wife has taken over the desktop (ubuntu 14.04 LTS). I've setup a second wireless router, dedicated to the MAC address of my laptop (debian) and using ssh I can view my email (thunderbird), but I'm not sure what to do to view woodworking videos without downloading. So, do I need to setup tunneling, do I need to view the windowmanager or is there an way to run videos? Anyway I've come along way using HOWTo's with breaking debian. Not sure how to proceed.
Note: The primary wireless router is from my ISP.
