My Epson CX6000 works fine except it only prints in black whether I'm using image viewer, gimp, etc. It's been like this for some time, but I didn't need to print anything in color until now. I'm using Hardy Heron 8.04 and I didn't have any trouble installing the printer.

I have an HP color laser printer and I am looking for a way to print black as black instead of using tri-color. For example If I print a document that has colored text then any black text is printed using the color cartridges rather then using black. I have been surviving by using windows XP in virtualbox but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've looked all over then net for a solution but I've found nothing. I remember having similar problems like this with older Macs because of postscript printing and I'm thinking this is the same problem but I don't know how to fix it. I've searched the forums as well but no joy.

Now when I print a simple Open Office document it comes out in magenta instead of black. Same applies to printing from gedit.
I have a Lexmark 736DN printer (color, 2-sided printing). With openSUSE 11.3, there was non specific driver to pick during printer installation: I picked up "Lexmark C772dn Foomatic/Postscript" and everything was fine (at least I didn't notice problems). With openSUSE 11.4, there's no such a driver! Even more, the list of drivers for lexmark is a lot, lot shorter than the list present in 11.3. C772dn is not present so i picked up "Lexmark 4076 - CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.6": but there is no color option and non double sided printing! what's up? Maybe I miss a rpm with printer's drivers (not installed by default)?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a mfc-440cn installed and working in Debian wheezy 7.4 (the last one) but I cant fix to it for printing in grey, I was using the pdf default reader and send some pages to printing indicating not to print them in color just greys colors but doesn't respect that order, it prints full color. When I see the conf page for the printer it stills have the configuration I did indicating to print grey but it ignores it and print as it wants (full color). Note that I installed thr mfc according the instructions from the brother support page with no trouble but is just that it only wants to print full color.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThought I'd post this as I couldn't find much about it online. I have an HP3745 and am running Ubuntu 10.04. For some reason I couldn't get anything from the black ink cartridge in test mode or for real. The printer would go through the motions but would return a blank page. Turns out it was because my COLOUR ink cartridge was empty!! Solution was simply to select print in grayscale. Also I find with this particular printer HPCUPS works better than HPLIP.

I installed a video driver and after restarting I got as far as the login screen where I saw that the driver did not work: screen is mostly black with random bars of color. I was only able to restart in recovery mode mode. I tried the fix graphics option, which did not work and also some commands that I've seen posted in other threads. So far, still cannot delete the problematic driver or boot up normally successfully.

I have an intermittent printing issue that results in part of a printed page containing a horizontal line that spans over two lines. The line is mostly black, with the occasional small break where there seem to be printed multiple characters printed over each other.
Sometimes I print and I do not get this issue. Other times I can print 60+ pages and it happens, while sometimes I get it on a single page being printed.
I'm not sure if this is a driver, printer or cable issue. We've used it through CUPS and we've used a print hub to convert the USB to a network accessible printer to see if that made any difference but it did not.
I have a feeling this has something to do with the print job data corruption.
I am trying to take a color photo and make it a high contrast black and white image. Just a 2 color image; rather, I just want the outline and nothing else.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 has had an abrupt power shutoff (actually several times -- my battery has some problems).
Now when Ubuntu boots, I get the startup screen, but after a few seconds, the screen goes black. I can still boot from the live CD and in fact I am using my computer from the CD to write this post.
A few more details: When I press the power button while my computer is in this "blank" state, I get hard drive activity. Also, if I press "power", and then "enter", the machine actually shuts down.power
Suddenly, my printer has stopped printing in black. Either I get a smudge on the paper, or the warning light comes on and it stops working completely.
hp-levels reports the black cartridge as 82% full and in good health hp-info says "there is a problem with a print cartridge" hp-clean either doesn't help or doesn't run
I've tried wiping the print head (the ink's coming out OK) and polishing the cartridge connection.
My laptop was shut down normally, but when it restarts - it just shows the very first image (Toshiba something....) which is the screen where it says what commands to type to get into bios.
After this - the screen shows nothing more. All black, except some faint (extremely faint) lines...
I don't know - my first thought was that the screen itself was caput, but since it shows the initial screen - I guess it's not...
Following the instructions in this post I'm able to boot and work using the live-cd option (Try without installing). The trick is, of course, adding 'nomodeset' to the boot sequence.
Now, my problem is to add 'nomodeset' to the "normal" boot sequence - the one on my hard disk. I'm running Ubuntu on an LG E300 with ATI Radeon Xpress 1250.
I recently decided to give Ubuntu another try after a break for a while, and have hit a bit of a road block The live CD booted fine, ran, installed, all flawlessly, so it's now a dual boot with Windows 7. Only issue now is when trying to load the HDD installed Ubuntu, it just hangs on a black screen, no HDD activity light or anything. First up my specs code...
Next, what happens in detail:
Machine posts, loads boot loader with OS options. Whether choose Ubuntu or recovery Ubuntu, it always hangs on black screen straight after that.
Next, what I have tried to fix it so far:
Tried pressing 'e' and replacing the quiet splash with nomodeset, same result with both normal flavour and recovery.
Tried copying the xorg.conf from the live CD filesystem to X11 folder on main system drive. Also tried editing it to try and use generic vesa driver.
I've been able to print with other distros (Mint, Sabayon) without problem so I'm guessing the way my printer is configured with Slack must be wrong. My CX6600 is recognized and when I try to print, it responds, but by printing a page filled with black ink. I have tried printing in Okular, Firefox and OpenOffice with the same result.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 13.0 to 13.1 and now I have strange behaviors with the printer. It is an Epson Stylus Photo RX640. It was working well with the vanilla Gutenprint 5.2.2 that came in Slack 13.0. The printer is shared and used from other slackware boxes and a mac. Upgrade to 13.1 (gutenprint gets to be 5.2.4) ...
Now when I print from the machine that has the printer attached I get full black pages, and cups shows errors. The Mac is still able to print well (probably because it is using its own PPD and passing through directly to the printer). I then removed gutenprint, and then removed the 5.2.2 PPDs (that were still in the system). Reinstalled gutenprint from the Slackware 13.1 distro. And the problem persists.

After installing Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS, I restarted my machine. I removed the disk, but now when it starts, it never gets to GRUB. Instead, it just takes me to a black screen with a blinking cursor. I can't type in anything and holding shift doesn't take me to GRUB.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed CentOS 5.4 and one of the applications I'm trying to run is PyMol - a molecular visualization tool - and when I start it I get a Python error that terminates with "Tclerror: unknown color name black" This particular application has two windows, a view window and a TCL/TK window that provides menus, and action buttons. The view window shows up but the Tcl/Tk window does not.
I have another application that gives a similar error: "tclerror: unknown color name grey90" This application does load and run, but it is a much more complex app that is likely only partially hindered. I haven't found yet how this one fails.
It seems to me that I don't have tcl/tk installed, configured, or enabled correctly, how to test this or how to troubleshoot the problems.
Can GNOME Color be used to alter this change directory color in Ambiance theme? I'd rather have white.

I am using the screen app, and have set bce to on, and issued the following commands to set my background and foreground color: tput setab 4; clear; tput setaf 7; clear;
This temporarily sets everything properly on my screen. However, when I issue any commands that change or set their own background color (for example, when I issue an "ls" command with colorized output), the background color gets lost for any new output and I have to reissue the commands listed above in order to retrieve my background color.Ideally I'd like to keep my background color when issuing these commands, as it serves as a good way to remind me of what environment I am currently issuing commands in.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.
We developed qt based application in linux. I wish to stop ejecting the paper after printing over.How to do it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen Ambiance is selected as the theme, the broadcast box in the "Me Menu" is black text on a near black background. Changing the "Input Boxes" color changed the color of that boxes background on every theme except Ambiance. The problem seems to be with having "Controls" set to Ambiance, because having any other theme customized with Ambiance controls selected causes this bug again.
I really don't want to use any of the other themes because I find them horrid in comparison. how to fix this bug, or if someone would be kind enough to post a proper bug report for this? Can anyone else recreate this error on theirs?
I was messing around with the screen orientation and thought it would be funny to orient it sideways. Big mistake The screen went black.I can force a shutdown, login and I get the same black screen. I tried hooking up an external monitor and the monitor showed no input so I'm guessing my laptop doesn't have that capability with Fedora.This is my main computer.
