View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an HP color laser printer and I am looking for a way to print black as black instead of using tri-color. For example If I print a document that has colored text then any black text is printed using the color cartridges rather then using black. I have been surviving by using windows XP in virtualbox but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've looked all over then net for a solution but I've found nothing. I remember having similar problems like this with older Macs because of postscript printing and I'm thinking this is the same problem but I don't know how to fix it. I've searched the forums as well but no joy.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMS office 2003 came with a prgram called "Microsoft Office Photo Manager". It was a surprisingly lightweight application that could adjust color, crop and resize photos. Very simple interface, easy to use. Perfect for simple modifications to digital photos. Is there anything like this in linux? Gimp is certainly not it. Office Drawing and F-Spot photomanager are not it either.

I would like to change it to purple like my whole theme.
I am running SuperOS 10.10, which is based on Ubuntu 10.10. I am fairly new to gnome Ubuntu and never have dealt much with changing themes.I am using the Ambiance theme and like everything about it but the slide bar is white and hard to see. I like the fact that the close, minimize, maximize buttons are on the left side of the window. If I change the theme to clearlooks then the slide bar is blue and easy to see but the close, minimize, maximize buttons are on the right. I went into Ubunty Tweak, window manager settings when in the clearlooks theme and the close, minimize, maximize buttons are set to custom.
If I uncheck the custom button and click left then nothing happens. I would either like to change the color of the slide bar in ambiance theme or change the close, minimize, maximize buttons location in clearlooks theme. It is probably simple to do but I have been going in circles with no change. Can someone point me in the right direction? Nevermind, I will just switch to another distro. This question didn't generate a lot of traffic.
I'm using Robolinux Cinnamon which is Debian 8.2 (fantasic OS btw). I usually use a blank, black wallpaper but the default color of the icon font is black. I googled this question for about an hour before I came here. How to change the icon font color on the desktop to white?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace.
ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.
I've installed Fedora 12 from usb to my laptop. But, on start up a b&w grub screen occurs. (I think there is where we chose the kernel for booting?)
When I start the the system from usb ordinary multi-boot screen comes and let me choose which operating system that i would like to start.
Do i have to start from usb all the time?

I'm a (very) recent Ubuntu convert. Today I burned the Ubuntu 9.10 ISO to a CD with DiskUtility (Mac) and installed it on an old dell laying around (I installed it on the whole disk--no partition, no trace of Windows left behind). Anyway, it was really awesome and running really fast, until I opened up F-Spot picture manager. It was working well until I went into a slideshow. It started lagging and eventually froze up. I tried pressing f5 to get out of full screen then trying to hit esc and then Alt+4 in an effort to close it.
In the end I had to hold down the power button to make it shut down. When I turned it on again, it started normally and went to the black and white Ubuntu logo, then just went to a black screen. I tried again, and this time got a GNU thing (called Grub, I think?) asking if I wanted to do recovery mode. I entered my username and password and it had an error and went to a black screen. Should I just put my LiveCD back in and install it over my previous installation..?
Since I upgraded to 10.04, too many of the roll-over and popup notifications show as black background with white (or yellow) text. I find this unreadable. What controls this? How can I change it to normal black text on white background?

I have 10.04 installed in a dual boot system with windows 7 pro on 1 desktops and one laptop. Also dual boot on a desktop with windows xp and Ubuntu 10.04. The two desktops run AMD processors and the laptop uses an Intel processor. On the two desktops after booting the screen will fade to black and white and then back to color. While in the black and white the computer is frozen. This happens using Firefox mainly and other programs. It never happens using my laptop with the intel processor. Does Ubuntu 10.04 have a problem with AMD processors? It does it so much it is hard to do anything with the and desktop computers, but I have never seen it happen on my intel laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a used Gateway Solo 9550 from a friend. It was running windows when I got it. So I decided to try to test Debian on it. I am relatively new to the Linux scene so I have had a few issues with no idea how to fix them. The biggest one is video. I can get it the laptop to boot up in recovery mode and have nomodeset enabled. With nomodeset in gnome it will work for approx. 20-30 seconds, and then the screen will turn white then to black and then slowly turn rainbow. I know that its not a monitor problem because I ran DSL and DSLN on the same rig, but when I plugin an external monitor its fine on the external but not on the internal.
Specs of the Solo 9550

512 MB of PC100 RAM

After installing the Nvidia driver I get black and white boxes displayed during KDE login. After logging in the graphics are normal. I tried installing the nvidia driver from the opensuse repository and manual installation of the latest stable driver. I do not have this problem when I use Kubuntu so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

Specs:
CPU Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
Mother ASRock P4i45GV R5.0
Chipset Intel 845GV w/ Intel Extreme Graphics (shared memory up to 64 / 256 MB -I don't really get which one-).
Nevertheless, when I start the Pc, Ubuntu loads and, when it's about to load the desktop, the screen turns black with white stripes and "turns itself on and off" (like when it receives no image). I don't really know if this is or not a graphic bug / problem, but it's quite strange, as I've used Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.10 before in that same Pc.
By the way, I get the same error with the normal Ubuntu Lucid. AND, I have a Win XP Professional SP2 installed (I've installed the Ubuntu afterwards, so I have the Grub as default bootloader).
Also, I get the same error when loading Ubuntu in LiveCD mode.
