General :: Different Color Scheme For Each Terminal?
Sep 14, 2010I have several terminals opened at once to monitor the logs. It would be helpful to choose different basic color for text (and maybe for background) for each terminal so I can quickly locate the one I need. Anyone know how to do this or perhaps point me to right direction?

Ubuntu :: Change Color Scheme For Certain Applications?
Aug 13, 2011I used to use the negative filter (Compiz) with Eclipse in order to have a dark background, but I wasn't satisfied. Then I ended up changing the Appeareance for all gnome windows (and applying a color scheme to Eclipse editors), so my background is black and the text is white.
It works perfectly for most of applications, but some (i.e. the crappy Celtx) are unreadable, as they keep the white of the font but use a white background. For Celtx, I'm still searching for the css to modify. But, overall, it could be great if there was a way to define one -more standard, black on white- color theme to be applied only on some applications (the conflictive ones).

Jul 6, 2009I am using the screen app, and have set bce to on, and issued the following commands to set my background and foreground color: tput setab 4; clear; tput setaf 7; clear;
This temporarily sets everything properly on my screen. However, when I issue any commands that change or set their own background color (for example, when I issue an "ls" command with colorized output), the background color gets lost for any new output and I have to reissue the commands listed above in order to retrieve my background color.Ideally I'd like to keep my background color when issuing these commands, as it serves as a good way to remind me of what environment I am currently issuing commands in.

Feb 2, 2010I have an HP color laser printer and I am looking for a way to print black as black instead of using tri-color. For example If I print a document that has colored text then any black text is printed using the color cartridges rather then using black. I have been surviving by using windows XP in virtualbox but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've looked all over then net for a solution but I've found nothing. I remember having similar problems like this with older Macs because of postscript printing and I'm thinking this is the same problem but I don't know how to fix it. I've searched the forums as well but no joy.

Apr 22, 2010I am writing a bash script that utilizes the output of another script (which I will refer to as script#2.) Script#2 is not owned by me, I cannot modify it. All of the output from script#2 is blue, which makes it difficult for me to read.
I would like to have the output of it changed to grey. Is there a way I can do that in my script? A command I can pipe the output to?
Edit: One other question related to this. I put a trap function in my script that works well. Script#2 essentially runs a tail -f. When I ctrl+c to stop it, it stops script#2 and never calls the trap in my script. Is there any way I can work around that?
Programming :: Easier Way To Color Text In Perl Like BASH?
Apr 8, 2010I've been trying to figure out a way to more easily color text in Perl like I do on Bash on a Linux box. In bash, what I'll do is set color variables up to equal the escape sequence, then echo out with escape seqeunces to print it exactly how I want it. Typically I'll want a character or a word in a different color, not the whole line. For example
echo -n -e "My face is turning ${RED}red${UNCOLOR} like a lobster." In Perl with the term::ANSIColor module, it seems to just do a line. Am I being dense? Is there a way that I can do it like I do it in BASH that's fairly easy to read after the fact?

Jan 4, 2014I have a problem for which I imagined a radical solution. Okay, I have a script that uses Alltray's "menu" feature as an interface. It's working greatly, EXCEPT sometimes lxpanel (the panel and tray of LXDE) has a hiccup and restarts, at which point the alltray menu is still running, but the icon is gone from the tray.
I want to somehow test the screen for the existence of a color, a color that is likely only to exist in the icon I've chosen for the chat menu. If the color exists on my screen, then the script can continue to do nothing, but if the color doesn't exist, then that means the alltray icon with my custom icon has disappeared, at which point I should have my bash script close the alltray process and start it again.
How to accomplish the checking of my screen for the existence of a particular color? To simplify, I already have simple screenshot scripts (scrot is good for it), so it would be fine if I could simply analyze an image.

Mar 19, 2010I find that when I am using bash, I like to type clear <enter> ls.. or clear; ls.
I wanted to these two commands into a script called cls so I can call the script to clear the screen and list files at the same time. My script looks like this:
I did chmod a+x and put it into /usr/bin
The script works fine, except that when I execute it, the folders/files are not color coded. If I type clear; ls on the command line, they are color coded.
How can I make this work in the script?

May 5, 2011(bare with me as I am sort of new with scripting) I am trying to figure out how to run a script that does a basic chkconfig and to get only those services that are running, but changing the color of "on" to red in my output file. Here is what I am working with so far:

*I had to substitute a "-" and <colon_symbol> for ":" in front of the on's, because the forum thought they were smiley faces (i.e. n) how to make the "on" to be red while the rest of everything remains in black text. I have been trying to read up on sed and awk, but it is still pretty much a mystery to me right now. There will be other things in the output file that I wouldn't want a rogue "on" to be in red, so just the instances of "on" in that one chkconfig return.

Mar 21, 2011I'm trying to setup X-less (console only) system on my old laptop. Everything works great, except colors of the console. When grub2's "gfxpayload" is not set, all colors appear fine, but when I set gfxpayload=1024x768" it starts with the correct resolution, but all color that's supposed to be white, appears teal (sea green).Interesting thing is that bold text in man pages appears white but not bold. Hyperlinks in links also appear white, although the selected hyperlink appears with a teal background. So the driver apperently can display other colors, but what's stopping it? Erasing "gfxpayload=1024x768" restores the colors back. Changing font's face and size didn't help. Using screen didn't help. GPM's pointer appears as a teal rect.
