Ubuntu Networking :: Get New Belkin 7050 Wifi Stick Up And Running?

Mar 12, 2010

For two days I've tried to get my new Belkin 7050 wifi stick up and running. No matter what I did nothing changed, at all. After close to 8hrs of straight trouble shooting I have made zero progress. Zero.

If you have a bunch of free time and want a project then feel free to play with this device. However if you're short on time or have work to get done just take it back to the store and get a different device.

Here's the over view of my situation :

- Ubuntu 8.04 : Device is detected. DHCP = Doesn't connect to router / get IP. Router can see device. Router has no security / password enabled. After several hours of trouble shooting Ubuntu I booted into win2k (supported by device)

- Win2k : Device is detected, official software installed. DHCP = Doesn't connect to router / get IP.

It does the exact same thing in Win2k as it does in Ubuntu. - Ubuntu 9.10 : Did a fresh install if 9.10 just to trouble shoot this problem. Symptoms are exactly the same. DHCP doesn't get an ip. There are no errors in /var/log/messages

- Ubuntu 9.10 : Blacklisted the regular drivers and did the ndiswrapper method, smooth sailing. After all is said and done it does the exact same thing. DHCP doesn't get an ip.

In all the trouble shooting I did (iwconfig, ifconfig, etc) I never received any error messages telling me that something had went wrong (besides the part where dhcp didnt get an ip).

Ubuntu Networking :: Wpa_supplicant Loops Between GROUP_HANDSHAKE And COMPLETED: Intel Wifi 5100 & Belkin?

Nov 26, 2010

EDIT 6 Dec: More detailed log from wpa_supplicant I'm using Ubuntu Studio 10.10 x64. I want to get wireless networking going manually. My wireless networking works successfully in Windows 7 x64. I can get it working successfully without encryption but when I try and use WPA-PSK, wpa_supplicant gets stuck in a loop between GROUP_HANDSHAKE and COMPLETED, as shown in the log below.

I've been working mostly off the instructions in this post: [URL]... My laptop is a Dell Studio 1537. It has an Intel Wifi 5100. Ubuntu Networking :: Install On Samsung N250 Netbook / Test Works By Running From USB Stick First (without Removing Windows 7)?

Jun 28, 2011

am currently using Windows 7 across my networked PCs at home.

I've just received my new Samsung N250 Plus Netbook which comes with Windows 7 Starter (yuk). I read a post on Ebuyer from someone who has installed ubuntu on his N250 so thought I'd give it a go tonight.

My main concern is whether my wi-fi card (Broadcom 802.11n according to windows) will work when I remove windows and install ubuntu. I intend to use the netbook for internet use only while working abroad.

Is it possible to test it works by running ubuntu from my USB stick first (without removing windows 7)?

Ubuntu :: Running Off A USB Stick; Very Slow?

May 28, 2010

Now that I'm on Ubuntu, I love the look of it. Navigating the OS menus is fast and programs are generally fast once they're running, but they're extremely slow when first opened (basic programs like Firefox, OpenOffice Writer, etc.). Is this because I'm running Ubuntu off of a USB stick? I don't know if I'd make the full switch if programs typically open this slow, but otherwise I love Ubuntu.

I purchased a new computer and I am trying to boot up gparted to partition the HD for installing my Linux Distros, but it gives the famous error Quote:

Of course using a live cd I have no control over that. I also tried three different monitors that have run Linux just fine on other computers.

My only thought that I could come up with is the NVIDIA Geforce 7050 graphics is not compatible with Linux. Can anyone confirm this ? Or is there something else I can try ?

General :: Running Ubuntu From USB Stick - Cannot Connect To Internet

Feb 9, 2010

I have been using Mepis on a dual boot computer for over a year. I want to give ubuntu a try so I made a bootable usb stick from ubuntu's live cd. Everything works as advertised even saved files and changes. I can't connect to the internet. I am connected via a 2wire modem to a linksys router thats connected to my computer through a ethernet cable. the router is for connecting my son's computer. Anyway I have no problems connecting from windows or Mepis. Whats strange is I can even connect when booting directly off the Ubuntu live CD.

When I try connect when booting from my usb stick I get a can not connect error. I am using the auto eth0 function and everything appears fine. I compared my settings from when booted from the Ubuntu live CD and they are Identical. I used network tools and I can ping my IP address but when trying to ping a web address I get the can not connect error. I am beginning to think ubuntu has my USB stick confused with a CD but not sure how to correct it. Here's some additional INFO:

Debian :: Nvidia GeForce 7050 Not Working In Lenny?

Mar 7, 2010

I just did a fresh install of Debian lenny and I'm having an issue with the display driver. The system is defaulting to 1600x1200 and it's not allowing me to change it to a lower resolution. The PC has a Nvidia geForce 7050 display card and the monitor I bought with the machine goes up to 1366x768 resolution. I ran the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but nothing happens, it's only giving me options to change the keyboard. There is nothing on the xorg.conf for the monitor settings:

Seletion "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"

Apparently, the install did not picked up the display card automatically. I also looked up the drivers for the adapter and downloaded the nvidia-glx_173.14.09-5_i386.deb file but, don't know how to install it.

Debian :: Deb Squeeze Running From USB-stick

Mar 8, 2011

I want to get a running Squeeze onto a bootable USB-stick to test it, to make desirable adaptions and adoptions and only when I feel, that everything is okay, install that over my existing Deb-installation.

The DVD however offers only an "install" over an existing Linux-system, destroying that. Really hours and hours of Google aso. brought no solution to a - in my opinion - simple task.

I want to transfer the content of the DVD onto the USB-stick, make that stick bootable and THEN enable me to act like the system on the stick were my real OS, including of course making changes to the configurations. Only when I'm satisfied with the result, I then want to overwrite my existing system.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Belkin N1 Router

Jun 23, 2010

I have a new belkin N1 router which I tested in somebody else's flat. It worked fine. When I got home I reset it by pushing a paperclip in the hole for 10+ seconds to erase this flat's internet connection settings (username and password and stuff). After this I plugged it the computer and tried to connect to it (wired connection) using 192.168.2.1 (this is correct for that router, it is not 192.168.0.1). But the browser says it is offline and cannot connect. The lights of the router cycle, the "modem router" light blinks continuously and the others briefly come on and go off again, every few seconds. I tried resetting it again, several times, leaving it off for a few hours, leaving it on for a few hours, etc.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin Surf & Share On 10.10?

Nov 4, 2010

It worked in 10.04 using ndiswrapper, but the connection was very weak (In Windows, it works perfectly). I blame ndiswrapper and the windows driver for the connection issues. In 10.10 x64, using ndiswrapper does not work. It says hardware present, but iwconfig shows no wlan0 adapter. I downloaded the driver from RealTek's website (rtl8192su) and compiled it. It gave a lot of warnings about integers being out of range, but I ignored them and went on anyway. If you want the exact warnings, I can put them on a pastebin and post the link tonight when I get home from work.

After doing a make install, I plugged in my adapter. As soon as it kicked on, the light on the adapter would blink and the screen would go black with a lone cursor in the top left corner of the screen. The drivers are obviously suspect, since I can make uninstall, plug in the adapter, and continue on with no network.Has anyone gotten this adapter/other adapters with the rtl8192su firmware working in 10.10 using a stock x64 install? It has to be stock or using packages available on the disk since without using the adapter, I have no internet.Maybe I'll try the drivers on 10.04 and see if they're just not compatible with 10.10.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin F7d1101 Will Not Connect?

Mar 5, 2011

I'm having a slight problem with my new wireless card that I purchased. I installed the firmware and the like and it does work, my computer recognizes it and I can search through my available networks, only thing is though.I cannot connect to any of them. I'm fairly sure it's a problem with it obtaining an ip address though.because it does connect briefly and I read the status and it shows no IP address, but when I connect through wired internet all that information is available. I tried setting my network configuration to static and that didn't help at all. I'm only a week into Ubuntu so this is all still fairy confusing for me.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin N1 F5D8001 - No Hardware Loaded

Feb 14, 2010

I've been having one hell of a time getting my old computer back up and running for my son. A year ago I had this computer running with Ubuntu despite it's connection to our local wireless with a Belkin N1 F5D8001. Now I've got the newest version of Ubuntu installed on his computer and I'm trying to go through the same steps that I went through in the past. I've managed to get the NetMW14x.inf file downloaded and I've used the new GUI for windows drivers to install the .inf but it's showing no Hardware loaded.

Also, in the past, there was at least recognition of the existence of the card if I did an ifconfig, it was just a matter of assigning a driver to it, etc. Now, if I do an ifconfig, I get the ethernet (disconnected) and lo (loopback). So it's as if the card's dead, but it isn't because I just wiped XP off it this morning. What the heck is going on with this thing? I could swear I've done everything I've read and everything I recalled doing in the past to make this work, but I'm mostly hosed by the fact that it's as if the system doesn't give a crap that the card is inserted at all.
