how to install the drivers for my linksys wusb100 ver2 wifi card. What I have found so far is that the usb stick uses a ralink driver (rt2870) I have read that I may need to compile the driver on my system but I am not sure how.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was able to successfully put together the driver with the Linksys WUSB100 v2 using ndiswrapper.
Here is what i get from ndiswrapper -l: rt2870: driver installed device (1737:0078) present (alternate driver: rt2870sta)But, the catch is where it maps to: ra0 instead of wlan0. This has caused me problems in order to get it to connect through network-manager or in the terminal.

I've tried it using the Ubuntu 9.10 live CD (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions) and while the adapter can see wireless networks, it can't connect to them. It asks me for my WPA2 key, but after trying to connect for about 30 seconds it asks me for it again. I've read other threads about this issue but they were kind of confusing.
I just need to know whether the adapter will work and if so, how to get it to connect. I'm so sick of Windows and I'd love to switch to Linux, but I won't be able to if I can't get my adapter to work.
Edit: I just noticed the sticky about posting wireless tickets. I'm sorry, I don't have time to post it right now, but I will post all of that information when I get back.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting my wifi devices to work on my 128bit WEP network. I have a new Thinkpad T400, with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN. I also have some cardbus cards: a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold, a Linksys Wireless-G, and a TRENDnet TEW-421PC. I have them set up as interfaces eth2, eth1, and eth3. (The TRENDnet isn't recognised as a network card at all, so no interface for it.) I have installed the latest firmware for the Linksys card.
The /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files are virtually identical for all of them, differing only in the HWADDR and DEVICE lines. So here's the behaviour:
1. The Lucent card comes up just fine.
2. The internal 5100AGN and the Linksys cards won't come up, and watching with iwconfig shows that they're either associated with my AP OR they've got an encryption key set -- but not both.
3. When trying to bring up the 5100AGN, I get the following messages:
iwlagn: index 0 not used in uCode key table
iwlagn: index 3 not used in uCode key table
/var/log/messages shows DHCPDISCOVER requests being sent, but they're bound to fail since the association with the AP with WEP isn't being completed. And yes, the ifcfg-* files really *are* identical except for the DEVICE and HWADDR lines. The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file correctly maps the interfaces to the MAC addresses. So why does my antique ORiNOCO card work and thew newer ones fail? How can I track down what's being done wrong/not being done?
Hey, I'm just set up my first Linux machine running openSUSE 11.4 and I'm not sure where to get the drivers for a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi card. I've read about using ndiswrapper to use the Windows driver, is this the best route?

Is there something I need to do for that? I have tried to search for it in the folders themselves by doing a search but nothing comes up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network here at home. The PC has a Linksys WMP600N wireless network card, which works fine under several versions of Windows. In Opensuse however, I cannot get it to find the network. Even though my laptop is right next to it, which has perfect connection to the network. The router is a Linksys WRT610N.
I've tried running iwconfig and iwlist scan in the terminal, but the scan returns no results and iwconfig indicates it does not have a connection to a network. I've turned off IPv6 as I read this can sometimes cause issues. I've also tried issuing the computer a static IP address, figuring the DHCP might be causing problems, but all to no avail.
I installed Gnome 3.0 with One Click install and after reboot KDE Network Manager shows all the wifi access points but clicking on them doesn't do anything seems like the click doesn't work on it.
I want to remove GNOME 3 completely from the system, what step should I follow?
I got the WMP300N installed by using ndiswrapper, but in Network Settings in YaST, I enter in all the info, and it will not connect. I set the Module Name as ndiswrapper, but it still won't connect. I blacklisted bcm43xx as some guide told me to. Could that be the problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed Suse 11.4 from the Gnome liveCD, and I "can" access my home network when it is unsecured, however, I can't access it when WEP is turned on. Now, I know that WEP is insecure but there are devices on the network that only supports WEP so the router settings can't be changed. Also just for testing purposes i have tried the WPA2 encryption method to no avail (dmesg reports that the connection timed out). The only encryption method that looks promising is the open-wep encryption. When trying to connect to the network (with open-wep turned on) I have performed a bit of checking to see what is going on, now I don't know much about in-depth linux and stuff but, below are the outputs from lsusb, dmesg, iwconfig, and ifconfig.

I recently switched from ubuntu/mint to fedora, and I cant seem to get my wifi drivers to work. its a generic wifi usb that ubuntu, mint, and chakra have been able to automatically detect and install. is there a tarball that has all the generic drivers for ubuntu, that I can install in fedora so I can get my internet connection working?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running 11.2 with an internal Broadcom-based Wi-Fi card that's working fine. I'm trying to get 802.11n going with the WUSB600N. The USB ID on this device is 1737:0079. I believe this means it's a "V2" with an RT3572 chip.
No driver loads for this device when it's plugged in. If I do a "modprobe rt2870sta", a driver loads, and syslog shows "rtusb init" and "usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870". But ifconfig -a doesn't show a new network interface. I've also tried building the RT3572 driver from the manufacturer's web site. It builds fine, and modprobe will load it, but I get the same results as the rt2870sta driver.
I bought the wireless PCI network card WMP600N from Linksys. I tried to connect with my router, but no success. The correct driver is installed(RT2800), the necessary package WPA_supplement is also installed. My providers settings are WPA-PSK with a shared key. Key encryption is TKIP. I can't choose TKIP in the Yast network menu. so i chose passphrase.
the weird thing is that the wifimanager says WEP is on but it's not, at least not in my router and i did not setup WEP to. see picture 6. i had to use manual boot "ifup wlan0" because when i use boot at startup the whole systeem freezes. anyway, when i use ifup wlan0 as root in the konsole, the system also freezes. i have explained it clearly, please take a look a the pictures.

Went to Lexmark.com and downloaded what i thought was the correct driver and the system installed them but cannot find them. When i plug in a usb cable a message tells me that i have connected the correct printer, However when asked to search Lexmark does not even show up on the list to select and search. Was successful on my wife's Windows laptop and after trial and error on my Mac Mini.

I've had an annoying couple of days beginning with a win7 reinstall on a dual boot system (win7/10.10) that wiped out grub. I reinstalled ubuntu (10.04) in the hopes of just getting grub2 back up, but that failed and I ended up with a new install of 10.04 on the partition and a happily functioning and coexisting win7/ubuntu wit grub working the way that I wanted.
However, I'm traveling, and tried to reinstall the wifi drivers manually. I think I messed something up and installed the 10.10 drivers onto the 10.04 system (I only had a 10.04 disk and the pendrive usb method failed). Anyway, when I tried to (re)install the drivers from the cd, I got the error: a later driver has already been installed. However, the problem at hand is as follows: now my win7 install doesn't see any of the wireless networks around.So, I think I somehow fraked the wifi card.
I'm using OpenSuse 10.3. I have a stick modem of Zain (Sudan), I use it for the internet. I need help on how to configure OpensUSE 10.3 so I can use it for the internet.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAlthough my Huawei e200 usb stick is working well under ubuntu, its not working in openSUSE. I think the udev rule provided by the vendor is suited for a debian system and not for openSUSE. When i see the dmesg output, it adds driver for ttyUSB0 and as soon as it adds it also removes it. This sequence goes on continuing till i unplug my usb stick from my computer. The udev file(78-haier.rules) provided by the vendor is as follows:

I often use an Ethernet cable to connect my computer to another computer for various purposes. But when I do that, I cannot use the internet even though I'm still connected to a WiFi access point. I'm presuming that's because openSUSE is trying to reach the internet through the Ethernet cable, which has precedence over WiFi.Is there a way to enable internet usage via WiFi while I'm connected to another computer over Ethernet?

And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
I verify in Intel site that my Intel'drivers are outdated, because Dell Suport is slow, so how do I update them in Opensuse?
Do I use Virtual Machine or try through Wine?
I upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3 and with great disappointment I discovered that my HSPA modem, that worked out of the box under 11.2, work no more. At the first attempt NetworkManager is able to build the connection, I am able to use Yast to download new packages and online updating but at the first use of firefox the internet connection hangs up. Any attempt to disconnecting/reconnceting the usb stick gives the following error in the kernel echo:

My USB WIFI device is Linksys WUSB 300-N. I use Ubuntu 10.10 amd64.
I installed relevant ndiswrapper including ndigtk sucessfully.
I installed netmw245 driver under Wireless Network Drivers sucessfully. It states "Hardware present:yes"
However no connection is present.
More specifically no option regarding WIFI comes up when clicking the top right Wireless icon on the screen. However "Enable Networking" is ticked.
When I type in the terminal:
#iwconfig it shows -
lo - no wireless extensions
eth0 - no wireless extensions
I have a DSL modem with four ports and a built-in wireless router downstairs. It works great: I have wired Ethernet for my PCs downstairs (all plugged in directly to the DSL modem); my son has great wireless access upstairs (using the built-in wireless in his laptop). PROBLEM: I want to add another, desktop, PC upstairs. I've been trying to use wireless, with a plug-in a Linksys USB stick. It doesn't work worth crap.
I'm considering a) getting another phone jack upstairs, and moving my DSL modem there, or b) stringing some CAT-5 cable from the modem downstairs to the PC upstairs. Putting a wireless PCI card in my upstairs desktop PC might also solve the problem, but the PC only has one PCI slot, and I'd rather keep it free, if at all possible.
QUESTION: Is there any kind of "wireless repeater", where I can a) get wireless access from my DSL modem/wireless base station downstairs, and b) give me some spare Ethernet ports, so I can plug in desktop PC (so the PC can have a wired Ethernet connection)? POSSIBLE SOLUTION: I have an old Linksys WRT54G router that I'm not using. Q: Is there any way to configure it for this purpose? Q: Would it be possible to use it for this purpose if I installed OpenWRT?
