Sep 1, 2011I use a dongle made by Option in windows xp, i started to use Ubuntu some time later , i can't connect with my dongle. If i can do it, i'm gonna stop using windows.

Nov 10, 2010At the moment I am in the UK using broadband but in a week I will be flying back to India, where I normally connect with a 2G dongle. This comes with its own software that installs when plugged in for the first time and uses an Airtel sim card. Of course this is in Windows so what's going to happen when I go back and try and connect using Ubuntu? I have done a cursory search and note that I should use the Network Connections service, but this relates to 3G, not 2G. Will that make a difference? Is it a suitable replacement for the normal software my dongle installs? I should add that using a Bluetooth phone with the sim card is not practical, I do need to use the dongle.

Jan 1, 2011I have internet access through 3G/4G USB dongle direct into my Ubuntu 10.04 box. Works great! Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues? I've tried the simple (GUI) instructions using Network Manager, but just can't seem to get it right. Previously, I had DSL and this plugged nicely into the WGR614 and internet and ethernet access was had by all. Now, I'm a bit confused on how to get the sharing (ethernet and wireless) between my Ubuntu box and the wired/wireless network while at the same time getting Internet access to all through the Ubuntu box.

Aug 1, 2010I've an Acer Aspire One A110 Netbook running Linpus Lite. All seems relatively well however I've plugged in a Bluetooth USB dongle and nothing has happened - oh well, I didn;t expect it to. Of course I'm used to MS Windows OS plug 'n Play and I know this isn't generally how Linpus Lite OS operates but despite looking around I can't find an explanation on how to activate the Bluetooth adapter. There are instructions and demos on how to add a Bluetooth component to the board but I'm not an engineer, neither professional nor hobbyist, so Im not interested in doing that. I've downloaded the Bluetooth zip file from the Acer Spire One support site it has been installed on the Netbook but there still appears to be no Bluetooth connection.

Mar 6, 2010I have installed fedora 12 recently. after installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.
There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.

Aug 12, 2010Just installed 10.04 on a Toshiba Portege laptop. Everything works fine except the LAN connection. Just doesn't connect. Based on what I know everything is on and enabled but no luck. The wireless works fin but can't connect to the network in my office through the standard cable. Installed the same operating system on a newer Toshiba (the second is my but the older one is a friends) and no issues at all. Wondering if it is a driver issue but can't figure it out. Am relatively new to Ubuntu but so far have found it easy to troubleshoot just reading posts and just trying out **** until it works. But this I've hit a brick wall.
Also ran in to a similar issue my work pc, except I had been working with it fine with 10.04 until I did a security update and puff... no more network. The eth1 connection is enabled and set to automatic but just can't connect to it. Sorry if I'm not providing enough info, just tell me if there is anything you need to know first and I'll post it.

Nov 27, 2010I upgraded to 10.10 and have everything setup, installed my wifi card fine with ndiswrapper so I can connect to my neighbors which isn't protected but mine is. Everytime I try to connect it will ask for the WEP so I put it in, it tries connecting then ask for the WEP again then repeats over and over....does 10.10 not like WEP connections? I don't know what to do.

Ubuntu Networking :: DSL Connection Won't Connect After Upgrade To 11.04?
Apr 29, 2011Just updated to 11.04 Natty Narwhal on my Dell Inspiron 1501 this morning and I bumped into a problem. The DSL connection I used to connect to before the update doesn't work anymore. When I was running 10.10 I had this DSL connection set up via Network Manager (right-click on the network notification area=>edit connection=>add new, using PPPoE method and user name and pass from the ISP). Now I still get the AutoEth1 connection that is created (automatically), but when I try to connect to the DSL connection, it just doesn't connect. I tried deleting the connection and creating a new one, then rebooting, but still cannot connect. Another problem is that first time I ran 11.04, after beeing prompted to reboot at the end of the upgrade, I had my wireless on and while I was trying to get the DSL connection to work I switched it off (Fn+F2). Now if I try to turn it on again, it won't start. The network manager applet is looking also different now, wheter I left-click or right-click on it is the same (used to be different in previous releases), and this makes me even more confused.
I know I probably shouldn't have rushed into upgrading without getting aquainted with the changes and the possible issues, but to be honest I wouldn't want to downgrade now to 10.10 (unity looks kind of interesting and I am looking forward to see it improved in the future) and I really need to fix this DSL connection problem on my laptop (using my desktop now)
Hardware :: MSI Bluetooth USB Dongle Connection - Certainly Not Long Enough To Send Or Receive A Single File
May 10, 2011Problems with Bluetooth. The dongle appears to be working, but then it craps out on me after only a few minutes!
I'm using the blueman-manager GUI to connect to my cell phone. If I load blueman-manager almost immediately after connecting my dongle, I can use it for a few minutes, but only long enough to add my phone, pair it and mark it as trusted. Certainly not long enough to send or receive a single file, though. Eventually and inevitably, the connection breaks, blueman-manager hangs/freezes up, and I start getting errors in dmesg.

I added the MARK myself to separate where the dmesg output stops immediately after plugging in the dongle from what appears after the connection is broken. It's right when that timeout error happens that the connection severs itself, and the error usually repeats itself several times.
Even if I just connect the dongle and not do anything except wait a few minutes, after a few minutes that timeout error will still happen. I'm running fluxbox and I don't believe I have any automounting programs, so there wouldn't be any interference from something like that.

Nov 7, 2010Im a Linux newbie and am running OpenSuse 11.3 (Gnome, 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop Kernel) and Ive an Asus N13 wifi dongle (linux compatible). I currently connect using my laptopś internal wifi but I bought the dongle due to trouble with weak signal. It came with some sort of code that can be "compiled" but I havent got a clue how to do that (and I have been researching this matter for quite some time now). I then came across a post where someone with the same USB stick created and added only two small files to his filesystem and it worked...for him (maybe becasuse he was on a different Distro )
Ralink RT2870 USB Stick and created the two files mentioned in the post (network_drivers.rules and network_drivers.conf) and placed them in ETC... etc, etc! I rebooted the system but NetworkManager only lists it as "device not ready" ... So now back to square one.
