Fedora Networking :: Networking - Connect To The Internet Using BSNL Broadband Connection
Mar 6, 2010
I have installed fedora 12 recently. after installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.
There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.

I have got my bsnl broadband few weeks ago. It is running nicely on my ubuntu lucid desktop. But form past few days I'm unable to browse some of my websites from ubuntu. I have dual boot my pc wiht Microsoft Window XP(original). The websites which are not opening in ubuntu are easily opening in xp. I have changed the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and also my MTU to 1452 but nothing is happening.
I also issued the command sudo iwlist ttyUSB0 scan it gives this as output ttyUSB0 does not support scanning
I also issued the command sudo iwconfig ttyUSB0 essid "MTN DEFAULT" iT GIVES THE OUTPUT Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) SET failed on device ttyUSB): no such device
How can one find out the essid value of a broandband network? How can i connect to the internet from command line for a broadband network?

I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
Im able to use nm-applet just fine to setup broadband card. Its a Sprint Sierra 598u. Im running Fedora 10 KDE version. Anyone know how to get it working? i tried the setup process but all it tells me is set up GPS or CDMA so i go CDMA for mine, but then it has some default name, and no providers, as the UBUNTU version did at least...i setup best i can but then after closing configs, i go to nm-applet icon in bottom-right and it doesn't show the mobile broadband connection, also any wireless connections don't work for some reason, but DO show up. just wont connect (which i got every so often when using ubuntu on the machine, was usually a switch off or restart away from fine
Ubuntu 11.04 isn't detecting BSNL 3G USB Datacard. I was using 10.04 earlier & could easily install it then. But now 11.04 isn't detecting the USB datacard, so I'm unable to connect to internet for updates
I'm having problems with my mobile connection. This has been working fine for months, but in the past few days it has connected OK, I've been able to transfer data, but after 30s the connection closes. Setup is Acer AA1 with F12 connecting via bluetooth to Nokia 3110c on O2.
So to try and figure out what's happening I put the bluetooth dongle in my desktop PC, also running F12, made a connection and again it dropped out after 30s. Then I fired up windows on the AA1 and made a connection using the same dongle, this time it held up OK. This leads me to think that something has changed recently in F12 to upset it.
In the last week I have noticed that sometimes my Mobile Broadband connection just goes off without me doing anything! I have credit on the dongle account, so it isn't that. I'm using fedora 14 on an acer aspire one netbook. Dongle is a Huawei E160 on o2 here in the UK Kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.i686.fc14
Sometimes unplugging and replugging the usb dongle works. Othertimes, I have to leave it out for several hours. It does seem to happen daily, though.
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 . And Using BSNL broadband I want to know that how to create new connection using username and password as we do it in windows.I have used pppconfig command but it gives me error that no dialer found d tell me how to create dialer in Ubuntu 9.10
Does anybody use successfully a broadband internet service on Fedora 10? I'm seriously thinking of buying a wireless card but don't know if it will be compatible.
I have a 2 machine LAN with both machines having an ethernet card and a wireless card. There is a Netgear router, both eth and WiFi, allowing both machines to access the internet.
On my Linux machine I am looking for some software that allows me to keep track of my broadband usage on that machine, excluding traffic between the two machines.
There are numerous such programmes for this in XP, which use Winpcap and a GUI frontend. The "other" machine on my LAN is XP and uses just such a program.
I tried to preupgrade to f14 and cancel it after some time. Now, I am facing a problem that I cannot access internet from mobile broadband; but I can access net while i am connected via ethernet or wireless. I have cleared preupgrade files with
Quote: yum clean all; yum remove @preupgrade
$ uname -rs Linux 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.i686.PAE
It can detect my HUawei modem and creating an IP as well. But no Internet. Can you tell me the reason?
