Networking :: Doesn't Recognize Internet Connection

Jan 22, 2010

I attempted to download and install Linux XP and the installation appeared to be a success. But after install of course the system reboots. Well after rebooting before opening up the desktop it forces me to set up the domain or something It would not recognize my internet/network connection. My ISP provider doesn't use any type of authentic. My internet connection is automatically configured through my modem. How do I get Linux XP to recognize my internet connection and finish the final process so that I can load into desktop ?? I also had a very similar problem with Linux Ubuntu Studio as well. I installed it and I was able to get into the desktop but still was unable to establish an internet connection.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Connection - Boot To 10.10 Amd64 & It Works & Sometimes It Doesn't

Fedora Networking :: Internet Very Slow / DHCP Doesn't Work W/ Wireless Connection

Jul 17, 2009

I am a convert from Ubuntu (9.04 kept freezing on my laptop; when it did work, many packages it seemed were outdated--ie only Eclipse 3.2, rdesktop was messed up [and apparently is also in Fedora]), and I am having some trouble with getting my wireless working.I am running Fedora 11.First off, there is a problem when trying to connect when using DHCP. NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.

Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server. How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I use rdesktop a lot to connect to my terminal server in my basement. Any idea how to fix it?

I'm having problems with my internet connection; it seems to be working fine then every other click of a page there is no connection, then I click it again a second later and it works. I am using a wired network connection plugged into an addon wireless router.

When I use ping under network tools it seems to be fine, then freezes halfway through and doesn't receive those few packets, giving me a transmission percentage of about 70%.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Doesn't Recognize Password 10.04

I've got a wireless router with a WEP security, when I choose my connection and put in the key it just tries for some time and then ask me again for the WEP key. And it goes like this on and on and on, I've tried to connect at some firends gome with the same kind of connection and it doesn't work either.

I think that in an older version I did connect to an unprotected connection but I cannot take out the protection because it is my roomsmate wifi.

I've rebooted, and it still doesn't work. I tried our wired internet, and that didn't work either (although I'm not sure if our wired internet works; we haven't used it in a few years)

Ubuntu Networking :: Router And The Modem Recognize Each Other But The Connection Drops Constantly

Sep 30, 2010

I'm running Lucid xubuntu. i have a netgear WG111v3 usb wireless card. The router and the modem recognize each other,. but the connection drops constantly.Other times it takes many tries to connect. There are 3 windows and one Xbox users in my house, all on the same router. When I spoke with 2 different people at Radio Shack, I was told that the software on the router is Windows based, so the Windows modems get top priority over Linux, hence the dropped signals. I was advised I could do One of three things:

1. Buy another router, one that specifically recognizes every operating system. That way, we all get equal bandwith.
2. Buy an antennae that boosts the signal.
3. Buy a booster for the signal that one cable end plugs into the router, then the device into a power outlet; the other in any power outlet, and then hardwire that to my ethernet card in my computer, so the signal stays constant. This is the output from the terminal:

[Code]....

Based on this information, what would be my best option. I can't run line all the way across the house to my computer; that would take 50-75 feet after winding it's way through the house. I don't use the ethernet card although it's still in the machine. Could it interfere with the signal?

Networking :: Use The Laptop With The Wireless Connection To Share The Internet Connection?

I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

Ubuntu :: Internet Connection Sharing: Tutorial Doesn't Make Sense?

Feb 5, 2010

At home I'm currently running Hardy on a desktop machine and Jaunty (Eeebuntu) on an EeePC. I often connect the desktop to the internet via a cellphone as modem. I also often connect the EeePC to the desktop via crossover cable and SSH into the desktop so I cam watch video files from the desktop on the EeePC from the sofa or bed.

I'd like to be able to use the desktop's internet connection from the EeePC. This means I have to set up the desktop so the EeePC can share its connection - this involves setting up the desktop as a gateway I believe?

Looking around for info on how to do this, I found this guide [URL]...in-ubuntu.html - but unfortunately it seems this guide has not been written correctly. It repeats itself in one section (below: repeated section in bold):

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Connection: 'Work Offline' - "No Network Connection"

Oct 31, 2010

I have the "Work Offline" problem: when I boot up, the icon on the toolbar tells me I have "No network connection". This is not quite true, since I can access the first page of any website - only subsequent pages are inaccessible. I get a message saying that Firefox is offline. However, when I uncheck "Work Offline" in the File menu, it makes no difference to this behavior.

The problem is on my Ubuntu Dell desktop, which is connected to the internet with cable broadband via a D-Link router (wired connection). It has worked fine up till now. I use Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6.11. I am writing this on my Ubuntu Dell laptop which is wired to the same router, so I assume the problem is not the router. I have tried various strategies suggested in threads on these forums, including editing about:config, changing "allow" to "deny" in some lines of /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf and changing from Automatic (DHCP) to Automatic (DHCP) Addresses only, but no luck so far. The contents of ifconfig are:

eth0
Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 001:aa0:91:a7:51
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets: 0 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 carrier: 0
collisons: 0 txqueulen: 1000
RX bytes: 0 (0.0 B) TX bytes: 0 (0.0 B)
[Code]...

If I comment out "auto eth0" as well, it makes no difference. If I uncomment both lines ("auto eth0" and "iface eth0 inet dhcp") then I lose the internet connection altogether.

Fedora Networking :: Wired Networking Not Connecting In 12 With Windows Internet Connection Sharing?

Jan 16, 2011

I just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.

Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.

Fedora Networking :: Networking - Connect To The Internet Using BSNL Broadband Connection

Mar 6, 2010

I have installed fedora 12 recently. after installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.

There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.
