Ubuntu Networking :: Fonts Wrong In All Web Browsers - Each Shows Them Different

Mar 16, 2011

yesterday a tried to put Ubutnu 32bit insted of 64bit to try differences, but I have a little problem with some web fonts For example on facebook are texts messed... and it is same on a couple other websites, which has nothing common. (School pages, wordpress administration...) Fonts are wrong in all web browsers, but each browser shows them different. for example Facebook in Opera (text is messed) and login page in Firefox(text is missing...) So i think, it is not a problem with browser.

Software :: Wrong Size Of Fonts In Web Browsers?

Sep 27, 2010

The image attached explain best this issue.

Usually this HTML menu fits fine. I just installed Kubuntu 10.04 and I have this bad behavior. I am sure that is only in my local environment, not in other computers (nor page zoom involved).

Looks the same in firefox, chrome, konqueror...

Ubuntu :: Fonts In Web Browsers Look Bad

Jul 26, 2010

Everything looked great until I installed and then uninstalled Kubuntu desktop. Now the fonts in Chrome and Firefox look, imho, "bad". I installed the msttcorefonts but there is no difference. I've attached a screenshot, which illustrates the problem. It looks to me like the bold is too bold and the normal type is too thin and not spaced correctly.

Fedora :: Fonts Not Showing Up Correctly In Web Browsers

Jun 20, 2011

fonts not showing up correctly in web browsers and the likes, more specifically bold fonts. On some sites, these show up correctly, but on others, they don't. I have no idea what's causing this, as it seems to have happened without me doing anything (like, literally, I opened a terminal window, then went back to my browser (Chrome, but I suppose that doesn't matter, as it happens on all browsers) and the problem showed up. Note that these fonts used to show up just fine.

Fedora :: System Fonts Wrong Until I Select System-Appearance Menu / Resolve This?

May 23, 2010

This is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).

When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?

Slackware :: Clock Shows The Wrong Time In Slackware

May 10, 2011

I've been running arch linux, with my clock set to UTC with no problem. Recently I installed slackware on a different partition. During the setup I chose to set my clock to 'local time' instead of UTC by accident. Now in slackware my clock shows the wrong time. Also in arch it shows the same wrong time.

I booted back into slackware and ran pkgtool to enter the setup again, and changed my time to UTC. But this makes no difference. My clock is still wrong in both slackware and arch. Do I need to reboot after changing my clock settings in slackware before it takes effect? how the clock or the setup works.

Networking :: What's Speed Of Different Browsers

Jul 7, 2010

With me, chrome and chromium tend to finish loading/rendering (whatever numion.com/stopwatch measures) the pages usually in less than 5 seconds. All the other browsers, in contrast, will take usually at least twice that time, and it's not uncommon to take up to 30 seconds for something that chrome/chromium didn't take 10 seconds. (My connection speed is ~4 MB/s)By "all other browsers" I mean mainly opera and iceweasel (I assume that other gecko-based browsers like iceape and kazehakase would fare similarly), because konqueror, arora, midori, and netsurf will do even worse. I didn't test text browsers. Is that the usual pattern for everyone, or I must have something wrong on my setup?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Completely Load Web Pages On Any Web Browsers?

I seem to have stumbled on a problem regarding internet connectivity. My web browser (Firefox or any other web browsers) can't completely load the desired webpages like yahoo.com or even google.com.But as I read different blogs in this forum, I have convinced myself that there is an internet connection.= when I ping different websites, Iseem to get good responses from those sites. Only when I need to browse the webpage do get no results.= ifconfig seems to respond well enough.= even "route" shows the IP my router/gateway correctly. The problem , I think, lies on the proxy settings or the DSN.

Ubuntu :: Over 1500 Fonts - Move Them To My /usr/share/fonts Folder

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.

How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

OpenSUSE :: 3.2 Fonts Get Loaded To /usr/local/share/fonts?

Feb 23, 2010

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.

I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

Networking :: Shows Connection But Not Connected / "connection Information" Shows A Varying Percentage Of Connection?

I have just installed ubuntu 10 on a thinkpad t410. At first everything worked swimmingly, INCLUDING the wireless. After about five minutes, the wireless stopped working, in that it seemed to think it was still connected but pinging didn't work. I've now restarted several times, and each time I restart, the wireless works for about 1 minute, then stops working. If I try to disconnect and reconnect it will not reconnect (until I restart, that is).

iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and ifconfig shows an address, and "connection information" shows a varying percentage of connection.

Ubuntu Networking :: Final 10.04 Go Wrong On Wireless?

Apr 30, 2010

Let me explain: I had the 10.04 LTS Beta, and upgrading until today. I got the wireless card ( the notorious broadcom ) in the beta by adding the CD to the repository, installing through synaptic ( the broadcom drivers available from the CD ), then selecting the driver from the Hardware Device Manager, enabled, restarted and was online.

I thought the Final version would be just as smooth right? I didn't upgrade because the OS never showed up in the Beta's Software Updates, so I figured to just do a fresh install, my biggest issue with Linux in general was solely it's conflict with broadcom, never anything else. So anyway, In this Final Release, I go to do the same routine, check this out: The card wasn't even showing up this time, wasn't being recognized! In the beta, it atleast showed up. That's minor but would be major to a new guy.

I figured to do the synaptic again, add the cd then the b43cutter( i think it's called ) and succeeded, got the Card to show this time. When I went to add the other driver ( the bcmwl-kernel ) the file that would have the driver to be enabled, it tells me "File Not Found!" don't give me the cop out of "Hook it up to a cable modem and download the driver" bid because that just pisses people off, we don't all have the means to carry around massive PC's to a cable modem.

What I hope to expect is someone telling me to download a file and have it on the desktop then trying it that way because I know about all the other tricks, and I think you can see, I tried em. I'm curious to know why it worked in a Beta release and not now
