Fedora :: Fonts Display In Open Office Writer - Creating Keyboard Layouts

Jan 16, 2010

1. Does Fedora 12 support ICU 4.4 Development Milestone 3 (ICU 4.3.3) with Unicode 5.2 full integration.(M3) ?

Microsoft's Uniscribe (usp10.dll) actually does not, neither in Windows XP nor in Windows 7. Will say is it possible to display complex scriptures like Devanagari, Avestan, Arabic etc. in Open Office Writer 3.1.1 via Fedora 12?

2. Is there any feature in Fedora 12 to build one's own Keyboard Layouts (like Microsoft's, Keyboard Layout Creator which isn't able to create Keyboard Layouts using Unicode Ranges bigger than U+ffff)?

Ubuntu :: Over 1500 Fonts - Move Them To My /usr/share/fonts Folder

Jul 3, 2011

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.

How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

OpenSUSE :: 3.2 Fonts Get Loaded To /usr/local/share/fonts?

Feb 23, 2010

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.

I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

Ubuntu :: Find What .pdf Fonts Are Being Used

Aug 8, 2011

How do you find what font a .pdf document is using, because some font formats I can past into Writer, but other's I can't. It tells me the font name in the dropdown, but it's not available. I will like to know the actual font file name if possible.

For example; I have one .pdf uses a combo of HCNXFY+TimesNewRomanPSMT and KFRPVS+TimesNewRomanPSMT, but when I intall TimesNewRomanPS.otf, TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT.otf, TimesNewRomanPS-ItalicMT.otf and TimesNewRomanPSMT.otf, I'm still not able to get the same format.

This means I'm missing a/or font(s). So, is there a app I can use to find what font(s) a .pdf is using?

Ubuntu :: How To Find Where Fonts Are Located

Jun 20, 2010

I have been playing with my desktop and I've found that I prefer Nimbus Sans L to Arial for my default desktop font. Was going to put it on my "shared" folder so that other people in the house (not all running Linux) could try it if they liked. I can't find it! It doesn't appear to be in usr/share/fonts as you would expect. (I did find the other font that I wanted to share, Inconsolata...) However Nimbus Sans L does appear in the font selection menus for gnome, Oo.o, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. Is there a way to find where the .ttf is located so that I can share it? It does appear to be properly installed, as it is distinct from the other Helvetica-like fonts that I have.

Fedora :: Where To Find Samples Of All Repository Fonts

Dec 1, 2010

I load up Package Manager in Fedora, select 'Fonts' on the left so as to show all Fedora repository font packages, and then see all the individual font packages available for installation. I am looking for a range of fonts for my documents (some artistic, some not, I'm not sure exactly what I want), and so I want to view a sample of the font in each package eg. 'The quick brown fox jumps over...' written in the font.

After selecting a font package in PackageManager, I can click on the 'Homepage' link and go to possibly see a sample of the font. But this 'Homepage' clicking has to be done manually for each font package, over and over, for possibly hundreds of font packages!!! Where can I find a single long webpage (possibly divided into categories) which has short samples of all Fedora repository fonts?? A page I can scan down quickly to find the fonts I like.

Fedora :: System Fonts Wrong Until I Select System-Appearance Menu / Resolve This?

May 23, 2010

This is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).

When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?

Ubuntu :: Dropdown Menu Shadows With RGBA And Compiz?

Jul 1, 2010

It took me a while and maybe someone else already know this, but I recently added RGBA to give me more transparency. But when I did this the shadows on the dropdown menus on the panel and in nautilus were not shadowed.

To correct this in Compizconfig Settings Manager: Turn on Window Decoration is you haven't already. Copy/Paste this line in the Shadow Windows info box:

[Code]...

That should be enough to get your drop shadows back on the drop down menu items. worked for me. Even works on the menus in Chromium even if the GTK themes window border is off, but is still won't shadow the window if GTK window borders are turned off.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Menu Bar And Location Bar Dropdown Is Unresponsive?

Nov 11, 2010

I have been having issues with the Firefox browser for the past few months. Firefox version: 3.6.11 Ubuntu x86_64 OS: Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64
Add ons: Flash block, Ad Block+, image block Occasionally on booting up and starting Firefox, the top menu bar, the location bar drop down do not work. Clicking them has no effect. Though I can enter a URL in the location bar, the drop down that gives recently browsed sites is unavailable. Using the keyboard shortcuts for these doesn't work too. So essentially all my browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords are not accessible.

Restarting the browser/system doesn't . Deleting the whole profile folder restores the functionality, though it takes me back to a blank slate as far as my personalisation and browsing history is concerned and everything needs to be rebuilt. Restoring the profile folder causes the issue to reappear. So it appears to have something to do with the profile stored. Would like to look if any one has has similar issues but can't get a hang of how to best describe this or how others would have described it. I am sure you understand how bad it feels when all the history, bookmarks, passwords etc are in a way lost when this happens. Also how and where to post this or search if already similar bug is posted with Ubuntu and Firefox.

P.S: Is there a way to separate the personal info like history, passwords and bookmarks from the profile somehow?

If I click Places and then click on any of the dropdown shown, Home Folder, Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads, before the horizontal line separator, Banshee launches. Those after the separator, Computer, Floppy and my Hard Drives, launch correctly.

I have tried restoring the Panel to its original setting with no luck.

Ubuntu :: Graphics 10.10 - Wireless Icon At The Top - Dropdown Menu Is Displayed At A 45 Degree Angle

Mar 31, 2011

I have a Hp Touchsmart Tx2 with AMD processor and ATi graphics. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) last night for the second time, the first time i had this problem so i thought maybe another download and another install would help, and i have dual boot setup with windows vista on the other partition. So the install went fine but when i am at the home screen in Ubuntu and i click something like the wireless icon at the top, or the time at the top, or any of those icons the dropdown menu is displayed at a 45 degree angle or something.

Also the drop down menus in firefox will do it too, i'm sure others will as well. It is really wierd and i already installed the flxgr Ati driver (i think thats what its called) via the additional drivers application. Also when i open the terminal it is displayed at this same angle. The outline is perfect put the content inside is skewed. Also I should mention overall its just slow and laggy and the wifi cuts in and out. I took some pictures with my camera cause when i took a screen shot the menu for that was slanted and i couldn't see what the options were.

Ubuntu :: Fonts Not Looking Right?

I have installed the MS fonts after following the guidance. Usually the fonts look thinner than they should. I have recently installed (wubi) 10.04 & haven't installed any office apps to see if it also happens now....I will note: This isn't limited to MS software. I see it happen with other software that requires WINE to use. So, I think it is a WINE issue. Has anyone found a resolution to this?

Ubuntu :: Can't Get Rid Of The KDE Fonts In GNOME

May 27, 2010

I finally performed my upgrade from Karmic today, everything went smooth and looked great. I decided to check out how KDE looked so I logged out, went into KDE and poked around for a bit then went back to GNOME. All my fonts are now that horrible tiny KDE font and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to return the fonts to their previous glory.

Can anyone, please, point me in the right direction? I've totally removed KDE from my system, I took all the files out of ~.fontconfig and set antialiasing to false in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-antialias.conf but still no joy. I haven't found the settings to get back to default but I've installed the MS font pack which looks better than the KDE stuff
