Fedora Networking :: Browsers Only Working Off Fedoraproject.org?
Nov 20, 2009
Internet (wireless) works fine installing packages etc.However it oddly only loads up fedoraproject.org pages?I've a feeling this is simple. What's up?Edit: ok more info-im running Fedora 12[URL]Edit: SORRY went through it again.disabling ipv6 in about:config worked1)open firefox and put about:config in the addresss bar2)click yes on the warning
3)scroll down down down to network.dns.disableIPV6double click and restart firefox!

I originally posted this in I kind of feel like no one is going to answer... is it because I mentioned Fedora? Since I'm trying out Fedora 12...maybe someone here can help me figure out why I have the problem in Ubuntu, but not Fedora?Here's the situation:I've been having very strange problems on Firefox in Ubuntu 9.10 for a few weeks now.haven't been able to, except for a few minutes....once..... and it never came back. This was when these problems had already been happening and after several tries to reach Fedora's site.
Other problems are just as strange but not so bad or consistent: Pages sometimes seem to randomly not be found or they are found on the wrong server or something. After several minutes, though, they usually go away after refreshing the page.One of the strange examples from the "not found" or error pages I got was when I tried reading Wikipedia.org and it told me it "could not be found on this server," but....the server and URL it listed were from Google.com! The address bar showed that it was trying to find the page on Google! No, I didn't copy and paste or type the address, I was in an already-working Wikipedia page that stopped working and thought it was on Google's servers! Isn't that weird? (I might have screenshots somewhere...)
Anyway, any ideas? I have tried creating new, empty profiles on Firefox, but they still cannot access Fedora's sites. LiveCDs work fine, though. Also, I copied and used a profile from my Laptop to here and it also cannot access it.I even tried System > Administration > Network tools and tried Fedora's site in the Ping tab and it usually works just fine (sometimes it gets nothing, though).Also, I'm not using wireless or dial-up.By the way, I've only been using Linux a couple of months now, so sorry if I don't know stuff

I just installed a fresh version of fedora 11, and it went extremely smooth, except for one thing; I opened up firefox and it was at the fedora start page with a google search, i typed text into the search box, hit enter, and got a infamous "This page cannot be displayed" error.I have checked my connection, turned off the firewall, and rebooted the system. The problem still persists. I have no idea what is going on, it says i'm connected, I can do a software update which has to go through the internet connection, but for some reason, firefox doesn't want me to go anywhere besides fedoraproject.org.

I've done a search and tried a few things as follows,I can not access the Fedora project.org web site from home comp using either Unbuntu 11.04 and fire fox, or Windows 7 and I.E.all I get is can't acess site when it times out.Following a posting on this site i tried the command host fedoraproject.org the output i got was "none' rather than some IPs as the person posting got.I want to switch from unbuntu to Fedora because it is what Ken Mayer uses to illustrate in his Linux + vids and I've found Unbuntu does not contain all the commands.

I recently upgraded from 10.3 to 11.2, keeping 10.3 and using Gnome. I can't get web access through various browsers but can ping outside IP's and the ISP DNS works. I'm connected through a DSL modem.
The browsers tried so far include Firefox 3.5.4 -> 3.6, Konquerer, and Lynx.
I have used the Network manager in Yast to make the changes and have compared network files in both 10.3 and 11.2. The settings are the same.

First I wanted to install the proprietary software Virtualbox-PURE cuz there is usb support, I need.
Added the Repository and installed it (virtualbox-4.0) and dkms.
Here is my sources.list
$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list
# Debian Hauptrepos
deb [URL] squeeze main contrib non-free
# Debian Update-Repos
deb [URL] main contrib non-free .....
The result of all is:
virtualbox is still not running. I use experimental branch flash is not working now. flashplugin was installed, I restarted my browsers, not working. I tested it with opera, chromium and iceweasel.
My questions are:
How I ever can go back to stable?
How can I make virtualbox run?
How can I make flash run?
I'm using debian squeeze with gnome 2.30.5. When you need more infos or results of commands I give it to you. 2 days of work and nothing is running.

I am using various browsers on opensuse 11.0
==>Opera
==>Firefox
==>Seamonkey
==>Konqueror
I find that the gecko based brwosers firefox and seamonkey are not working, page loading is extremely slow/not working at all sometimes. On the other hand Opera and Konqueror are working fine. The gecko browsers are loading pages well only when I right click on web pages and use "open with browser menu" from either konqueror or opera.

First off, this is not my laptopit is a friends that i installed ubuntu onthey asked me to try and fix their problem.PROBLEM: basically the desktop is locked. if it is any way to browse the files, it doesnt workyou double click a file on the desktop, you cant open folders. you cant open folders/locations through any menu.its like the desktop is an image of your desktop and the icons are hidden. but this is not how it is. the very first time you click on an icon, it highlights but nothing else. it wont unhighlight either.

With me, chrome and chromium tend to finish loading/rendering (whatever numion.com/stopwatch measures) the pages usually in less than 5 seconds. All the other browsers, in contrast, will take usually at least twice that time, and it's not uncommon to take up to 30 seconds for something that chrome/chromium didn't take 10 seconds. (My connection speed is ~4 MB/s)By "all other browsers" I mean mainly opera and iceweasel (I assume that other gecko-based browsers like iceape and kazehakase would fare similarly), because konqueror, arora, midori, and netsurf will do even worse. I didn't test text browsers.Is that the usual pattern for everyone, or I must have something wrong on my setup?

I started using fedora 12 while on a trip and it was working fine. When I came home firefox wouldn't connect (server not found). Package loader, and skype, and email work fine.
ftp: won't work
I downloaded 2 other browsers seamonkey and something else but neither worked. It's not hardware because if i boot window there's no problem. Wireless or wired has same problem. I can ping inside and outside my lan. Nslookup resolves the address and if I type the ip address in the browser it will show the page, but clicking any links will error (server not found).

I seem to have stumbled on a problem regarding internet connectivity. My web browser (Firefox or any other web browsers) can't completely load the desired webpages like yahoo.com or even google.com.But as I read different blogs in this forum, I have convinced myself that there is an internet connection.= when I ping different websites, Iseem to get good responses from those sites. Only when I need to browse the webpage do get no results.= ifconfig seems to respond well enough.= even "route" shows the IP my router/gateway correctly. The problem , I think, lies on the proxy settings or the DSN.

yesterday a tried to put Ubutnu 32bit insted of 64bit to try differences, but I have a little problem with some web fonts For example on facebook are texts messed... and it is same on a couple other websites, which has nothing common. (School pages, wordpress administration...) Fonts are wrong in all web browsers, but each browser shows them different. for example Facebook in Opera (text is messed) and login page in Firefox(text is missing...) So i think, it is not a problem with browser.

I checked this website on Ubuntu machine and the menu is fit in all browsers and looks same. Also tested on Windows machine in Firefox and it also fit the menu.
But in Fedora 14, only Google Chrome displays correctly. See attached images for the menu problem.

I am using FC12 to view television shows I miss with the Adobe Flash plugin in both Google Chrome and Firefox. Certain network pages will work with Chrome but not Firefox and vice versa. For simplicity, I would like to create shortcut / links to the different show websites we watch, but I don't know how to direct one link to use Chrome and another to use Firefox. Is this even possible (I haven't explored it much myself)?

I think I've found a problem in Firefox 3.5 in Fedora 11, don't know if this may be also the case for other distributions. So, the problem I currently have is that other user accounts on the system cannot access correctly the fonts from Mozilla based browsers (Firefox, Epiphany, Galeon, SeaMonkey), the problem is that at many websites the browser simply won't display any fonts at all, all the text is "blank", it IS there, but as if the characters were transparent, they aren't drawn. Besides this problem, Firefox (or Epiphany, or any of the others) will eat up as much as 80% of all the RAM (and in this 4Gb setup, that is simply too much for the browser alone!), not to mention that performance is awefully degraded while the HDD is spinning like mad and the browser is loading whatever it may be.
However, my primary account is unaffected (reason why I thought it may be related to privileges). I need this system to be multiuser. Looking around I don't seem to see any signs of this issue, I have no idea why is this the case. The only way to get the other browsers to display any fonts at all is to force the desired fonts to use (not allowing the websites to be viewed as intended by the authors).
Any hints as to why is this so? BTW, in the main account I have the option for the websites to choose the font enabled, and no font drawing problems whatsoever.

I've seen it every where with zero resolutions, I have extremely high ram usage with nautilus .
[code]...
Just opening folders with lots of directories takes forever. I would have assumed it all as normal but I just build a windows 7 machine and have it on the same network. Windows 7 SMB scan of the same shares is virtually instant where as my Fedora machine creeps along. Also it never give back the ram used. It ramps up and up, leak? Almost the same hardware. Both with tons of ram. Nautilus previews are all turned off but still same slowness. Network speeds are the same. Both on gigabit with about the same download speeds. Is there ever going to be a revamp/change/fix or do I need to start looking for other file browsers?

fonts not showing up correctly in web browsers and the likes, more specifically bold fonts. On some sites, these show up correctly, but on others, they don't. I have no idea what's causing this, as it seems to have happened without me doing anything (like, literally, I opened a terminal window, then went back to my browser (Chrome, but I suppose that doesn't matter, as it happens on all browsers) and the problem showed up. Note that these fonts used to show up just fine.

I'm new here, so please be gentle! I recently installed F12 64 KDE on my Acer Aspire 1810TZ, could connect to the WLAN router but neither the native Konquerer nor Firefox could open any pages...
resolve.conf has the DNS according to DHCP offer, from command line dig properly resolves the name, ping (e.g. google) works, telnet to domain-name on port 80 works, GET too. When using the browser with the domain-name I tells me "Server not found", tcpdump doesn't display any activity. But when I manually change the domain-name with the IP (received by command line dig) then the browser has no problem how do browsers interact with the network resources of the OS?

After taking a first look onto internet under Fedora linux (using Firefox web browser) I've saw that every single image is displayer much much worse than in same Firefox under Windows. Especially when scaling, it became pixelized, but even without scaling it is smoothen very much. I've checked Konqueror but quality is bad too and the same as in Firefox. What could be the reason and how could I fix it?
BTW, everything in linux GUI looks a little worse, including font, etc, looks smooth. Images under IrfanView too, but not as bad as in browsers. Proprietary Nvidia driver from RPMfusion is installed and 3D works. But running Fedora under VirtualBox in Windows produce same bad quality as in native Fedora.

I have a strange problem for internet. My clients (winxp - S2) can't get internet.Let me explain my scenerios. Fedora 10 with lan (eth0) having direct internet from dsl model, client (XP service pack 2) can use samba shares using dhcp (wlan0) installed in Fedora 10 box. client can ping my linux box.Now problem is: client (dosbox) can ping the google ip address (i.e ping 74.125.39.106) but can't use 'ping www.google.com'. That means ping with ip works for internet from my client. My linux box can. I can use internet from FC10 but can't use iexplorer from my client to have internet. I have enable ipmasquarding in Firewall and dhcpd is running on wlan0 for dynamic ip address of my clients.Can someone suggest me what kind of problem having I? What should i do to success iexplorer for internet? what possibly am i missing?

Would appreciate any suggestions. Have attached log with all commands identified and output. Wired ethernet works with no problem.
The router shows no connection activity on the wireless portion from the Linux box. I do have a laptop that I have connected to the router before and after attempting to connect with the Linux system.The only out of the ordinary message I see is (from dmesg):wlan0: privacy configuration mismatch and mixed-cell disabled - disassociate

using fedora 9 i've problems getting bittorent to work. i have an external kerio firewall but my messages seem not to get thrue. I read about port forwarding, as a way to speed up bittorent I interprete that as bundling the port series 6881 till 6999 to ferdora:6881 so all the ports are channeld to the bittorent machine and 1 port.(tcp and Udp)
that how I did set it up, but i seem not to get a lot of throughput i guess Maybe 1kb per week, I do not know if this is what is seen as a slow bittorent.... on the firewall i see a lot of messages running arround but nothing seems to advance
what can I do, verify to get this running. (I temporarly switched off fedora's firewall( internal) is there a way to structuraly test bittorent? is my forwarding rule correct? (input multiple ports to single port?
