Slackware :: Clock Shows The Wrong Time In Slackware
May 10, 2011I've been running arch linux, with my clock set to UTC with no problem. Recently I installed slackware on a different partition. During the setup I chose to set my clock to 'local time' instead of UTC by accident. Now in slackware my clock shows the wrong time. Also in arch it shows the same wrong time.
I booted back into slackware and ran pkgtool to enter the setup again, and changed my time to UTC. But this makes no difference. My clock is still wrong in both slackware and arch. Do I need to reboot after changing my clock settings in slackware before it takes effect? how the clock or the setup works.
General :: Rpm -qi Shows Wrong Relocations
Jul 27, 2011rpm -ihv Test-01.rpm --relocate /opt/Test01=/opt/Test02
while issue
rpm -ql it shows the file from /opt/Test02 that is correct
but when i query
rpm -qi Test-01
Name : Test-01 Relocations: /opt/Test01
it shows the old Relocation
Ubuntu :: Pen Drive Shows Wrong Size?
Apr 12, 2011I have a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager GT pen drive. It worked fine for some time but recently, I am not sure for what reason, it is showing to have only 7.56GB of space.
Is it possible to fix this or is it the pen drive physically damaged?

(School pages, wordpress administration...) Fonts are wrong in all web browsers, but each browser shows them different. for example Facebook in Opera (text is messed) and login page in Firefox(text is missing...) So i think, it is not a problem with browser.

The file names of files created from the windows workstation are ok, but the file names of files created from the Linux server appear with different names than them are supposed to have. Although mplayer is not a part of the Slack distros, I think the issue is more in connection with the system setup and thefore I place this post in this forum. What is it with mplay- er? I've installed and reinstalled slackware 12.0 many times. And each time I have built mplayer from the sources and it has run fine. In the one before the last slack 12 installation, with subsequent building and installation of MPlayer, some- thing went wrong. And the same can be said of the present installation. Every source mplayer reproduces, it does it fine, with the exception of CD-ROM. No matter the CD-ROM I insert (I have them of the highest quality, bought out of the shelf) or the CD-ROM unit I use. The result is always the same: the sound is faulty, as if the machine had not enough speed. And I repeat. MPlayer played CD-ROMs fine in the past and under the same conditions. Or almost the same conditions, because something must obviously have changed.
Some additional data:
(a) Window$MediaPlayer plays them fine on the same machine.
(b) I invoke it from the physical console.
(c) KsCD under xfce plays them fine.
(d) I am able to load an o.s. from both CD-ROM units on the machine. All the more so, should audio be "correcty" read off the CD.
(e) Now I remember the last time I compiled mplayer with GUI support.

(actually is was a big dot instead of a *) But whenever I clicked in the box, the text was shown

I tried three times, by removing /var/cache/sbopkg/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz then start sbopkg again.
EDIT: I went to slackbuilds.org, downloaded flashplayer from there, and checked the md5sum. Still the same of course.
Slackware :: Kernel Tries To Mount Wrong FS Type?
Aug 13, 2010I just installed Slackware 13.1 x86 on a new laptop (you probably remember me from my audio post). I am having one other issue. My root file system is formatted as EXT4. When my computer boots, it tries to mount it as EXT3 then EXT2, fails both types and then tries EXT4. Here are the messages.

So, eventually / is mounted correctly, but I think this is slowing down my boot time. Does anyone know how to fix this.
Slackware :: Gvim Autostarting -as The KDE Desktop Shows?
Mar 25, 2010Running Slackware current and KDE4. Every time I start up, gvim autostarts as soon as the KDE desktop shows. There is no command in .kde/Autostart for this. I have ticked always start with an empty session in the session manager. I cannot see why gvim is starting every time. How can I stop this?

Root is on own drive sda1. sdb and sdc are raid via mdadm with two partitions. one for /home raid0 md0 one for swap raid1 md1. md0 is encrypted vi cryptsetup. md1 is encrypted vi fstab. everything boots fine and is accessible. However, /dev/mapper/* shows sda1 as block device connected to the raid md0. swap crypted device is correct in /dev/mapper/*. fstab is set correctly. problem seems to be with initrd. I would like the correct device in /dev/mapper so that I can access drive info; size, available space, etc. now info shows only sda1 info

Sep 22, 2010I have around 6 email accounts for business & private use that I retrieve and send via pop/smtp with Kmail (Version 1.11.4). But it seems that all my outgoing mail is only sent via one account (say first@gmail.com) even if I select another account for the outgoing I.D field and FROM field. When I look in the sent folder the headers shows the correct sent from account but my recipients headers show they were all sent from first@gmail.com! Ebay keeps bouncing my emails back too as a result saying the email is not registered. It used to work just fine so not sure what is happening. I have tried reinstalling Kmail/kdepim-4.2.4-x86_64-1.txz deleted all the accounts and recreated them but the problem persists.

Jan 19, 2010Was wondering if this is normal. I have a laptop which is about a year old. Recently my battery died (it last 10-15 minutes instead of 3-4 hours as it was before). I ordered a new one. While waiting for the new one I started to investigate power consumers (processes) on my machine. Slackware :: Slackpkg Upgrade All Shows Outdated Packages
Jan 26, 2011I ran slackpkg update, then slackpkg install-new, then slackpkg upgrade-all. The menu shows pretty much every package that comes stock in slackware, and the ones that I looked at are all older versions than what I have installed. Is this how its supposed to be? or is my slackpkg bugging out?

Slackware :: Printing Full Black Pages And Cups Shows Errors
Jun 24, 2010I upgraded from 13.0 to 13.1 and now I have strange behaviors with the printer. It is an Epson Stylus Photo RX640. It was working well with the vanilla Gutenprint 5.2.2 that came in Slack 13.0. The printer is shared and used from other slackware boxes and a mac. Upgrade to 13.1 (gutenprint gets to be 5.2.4) ...
Now when I print from the machine that has the printer attached I get full black pages, and cups shows errors. The Mac is still able to print well (probably because it is using its own PPD and passing through directly to the printer). I then removed gutenprint, and then removed the 5.2.2 PPDs (that were still in the system). Reinstalled gutenprint from the Slackware 13.1 distro. And the problem persists.

Dec 24, 2010I switched today to slackware-current on one of my desktops to play with it and ran directly into a problem.
Since ages my lilo.conf has two entries for slackware. One for runlevel 3 and one for runlevel 4.

Since the upgrade this is no more possible because I get a kernel panic as soon as udevadm trigger is called. The stack says something about an unknown boot option. Because that i removed the append lines from my lilo.conf and i was able to boot the system. The crash happens when udev is called from within the ramdisk and afterwards. I tried both.
My question is now. Is this a bug in udev or expected? I have this setup since at least 5 years and had never problems with that. What do I have to do to be able to select the runlevel at boot time?

May 10, 2010All clients on the LAN, have to have their /etc/hosts file edited for my server to resolve their hostnames/LAN ip addresses. Both Windows/Mac/Linux. That shouldn't be necessary as all other stanzas are correct. If the hosts file is not ammended my maillog shows connect from unknown rip="my_external_address" when in fact it should say connect from "host" rip=192.168.0.20 Not to sure if it is an iptables issue as I have nothing for this configuration. /etc/hosts file on the server has all required hostnames and ip addresses

May 26, 2010I have just installed ubuntu 10 on a thinkpad t410. At first everything worked swimmingly, INCLUDING the wireless. After about five minutes, the wireless stopped working, in that it seemed to think it was still connected but pinging didn't work. I've now restarted several times, and each time I restart, the wireless works for about 1 minute, then stops working. If I try to disconnect and reconnect it will not reconnect (until I restart, that is).
iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and ifconfig shows an address, and "connection information" shows a varying percentage of connection.
