Software :: Wrong Size Of Fonts In Web Browsers?
Sep 27, 2010
The image attached explain best this issue.
Usually this HTML menu fits fine. I just installed Kubuntu 10.04 and I have this bad behavior. I am sure that is only in my local environment, not in other computers (nor page zoom involved).
Looks the same in firefox, chrome, konqueror...

yesterday a tried to put Ubutnu 32bit insted of 64bit to try differences, but I have a little problem with some web fonts For example on facebook are texts messed... and it is same on a couple other websites, which has nothing common. (School pages, wordpress administration...) Fonts are wrong in all web browsers, but each browser shows them different. for example Facebook in Opera (text is messed) and login page in Firefox(text is missing...) So i think, it is not a problem with browser.

I just finished installing a bunch of truetype fonts. After installing them, firefox is displaying "bradybunch" font when I search google.
The font settings are all serif and sans serif in both the system fonts settings and firefox settings.
I am using ubuntu 9.10.
Any idea why this could be happening?

Everything looked great until I installed and then uninstalled Kubuntu desktop. Now the fonts in Chrome and Firefox look, imho, "bad". I installed the msttcorefonts but there is no difference. I've attached a screenshot, which illustrates the problem. It looks to me like the bold is too bold and the normal type is too thin and not spaced correctly.

fonts not showing up correctly in web browsers and the likes, more specifically bold fonts. On some sites, these show up correctly, but on others, they don't. I have no idea what's causing this, as it seems to have happened without me doing anything (like, literally, I opened a terminal window, then went back to my browser (Chrome, but I suppose that doesn't matter, as it happens on all browsers) and the problem showed up. Note that these fonts used to show up just fine.

I was trying to adjust my gnome-terminal actually. Opened up Gnome-terminal and went to Edit > Profile Preferences > General Tab.In the General Tab there is a font option. Tried to change font-sizes but saw there is only 18, 20 and other sizes but no 19. I also saw similar things in many other fonts. To investigate further I tried same and similar fonts in Gedit as well i.e. go to Gedit > Edit > Preferences > Font and Colors and clicked on Editor Font and cycled through almost all the fonts that are on my system. I didn't see it either of them to give an option of 19. In fact saw quite a few odd sizes missing. So is this a short-coming in GNOME or something else. Is it something to do with the resolution perhaps - the current resolution is fixed at 1024*768 .

I have fedora 13 set up on a HP6715S laptop. Runlevel 3 is a problem, because the capital letters are the size of full stops. Reading a little, I can try a grub vga setting, but I am not keen as my screen is 1200x800 and X cannot set it otherwise, so I doubt grub could. There's KMS for radeon cards, and the kernel can do what it likes. The biggest font supplied with fedora is sun12x22, which doesn't even have a euro sign. I gather I can go to a height of 32. Anyone know of larger consolefonts, or a wheeze to double the size of one of the others, e.g. lat9w-16? setfont-h32 increases height, but not zoom, so it's like a double spaced console.

1.) Where can I find the setting to change the size and color of the font used for inactive windows?
2.) Where can I change the size of fonts used in webpages? For example, look at the size of the font I see here at this website.

When booting into my slack12 fluxbox desktop today my fonts were so small they were hard to read. The same is true if I use kde. I didn't change anything that I can think of. I tried running fc-cache but it didn't change anything. My xorg.conf hasnt changed. Interestingly, my xterm font didn't change size, but the konsole font is tiny like my other desktop fonts.

OpenSUSE 11.4 / kernel 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop / Gnome 2.32.1
Video: Intel 945G (on motherboard)
Monitor: Acer AL1716 @ 1024x768
Driver: whatever 11.4 auto-installed for the card
Having a strange video problem after recently up-ing to 11.4. When new windows open maximized, they are opening at the wrong size (slightly too small) resulting in a distorted view including 'broken' fonts (missing pixels). If I unmaximize the new window, and then re-maximize it, it now maximizes to the correct size and everything is fine.

I installed opensuse 11.2 on ASUS R2E nicely It have a 7" touchscreen and works nice. The screen is correctly settled to 800x480 on boot however after a S2RAM it is reinitialized as 800x600. I made an xorg.conf with only one fixed mode on 800x480 but daesn't seems to be considered on resume. After cold boot sax2 get the right size (800x480) and after resume 800x600 The video chipset is intel 945 GM.
May this be related to hardware reinitialization ? How to re-initialize X on resume ?

Is there some better way of getting my display size set to 1280x960 when I launch openSUSE 11.4 under VMware Server? Here's what I've done so far: I am running Windows 7 on an AMD Phenom II system (motherboard: Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H). I installed VMware Server (version 2.0.2) so that I can run openSUSE 11.4. The initial install went pretty smoothly. However, the display size was set to 800x500. I attempted to set it to 1280x960 by changing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf file as follows:
Code:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Default Monitor"
## If your monitor doesn't support DDC you may override the
## defaults here
# HorizSync 28-85
# VertRefresh 50-100
HorizSync 1-10000
VertRefresh 1-10000
## Add your mode lines here, use e.g the cvt tool
Option "PreferredMode" "1280x960_60.00"
# 1280x960 59.94 Hz (CVT 1.23M3) hsync: 59.70 kHz; pclk: 101.25 MHz
Modeline "1280x960_60.00" 101.25 1280 1360 1488 1696 960 963 967 996 -hsync +vsync
This resulted in a display size of 1734x1342 (or something close to that). I noted from the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file that the vmwlegacy driver is being used instead of the vmware svga driver. There is a note that the vmwlegacy driver does not support the "PreferredMode" setting in the monitor section of the xorg.conf files. For the time being, I have set my horizontal and vertical rates to 60kHz and 60Hz, respectively. This does limit the maximum display size to 1280x960, but for all the wrong reasons. How do I set up my system to get the correct display size?

I am running ubuntu 10.04 with the fglrx driver installed with apt-get. I have an ATI Radeon HD AGP with 512MB of video ram. My bios window size is 64MB. The Xorg.0.log file shows that 512MB is recognized. I also tried checking the /proc/mtrr file and it shows two values one I believe is my ram size which looks to be correct at 1.5GB the other is 512MB which I think is my video ram size, but when I do an lspci -v the video ram size shows 256MB. I am trying to run Doom 3 and it only allows me to use 256MB of memory.

This is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).
When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

a client brought in an 160GB external HDD and wanted to get the files off it, there appeared to be no partitions on the disk but i thought it may have been formatted to use the whole disk. I tried to mount it as the various FS types the client thought it may have been to no avail.
I ran testdisk on it which told me that it previously had a mac partition table and a 210GB partition on it (which is larger than the disk) could anyone enlighten me as to whether or not this is even possible, and if so how could i retrieve the data?

Ubuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.

today I upgraded via official testing repository Gnome to version 3.18. After this, icons on desktop and nautilus are bigger, than before. Next thing, gaps between icons are smaller than before. I tried change theme to default (Adwaita), then run gtk-update-icon-cache, but without result.
Normal view - icons are big for this view. URL....
Small view - icons are still big for this view. URL...
How can I change icons size and gaps size? Or is it bug for this version?
