Networking :: Shows Connection But Not Connected / "connection Information" Shows A Varying Percentage Of Connection?

May 26, 2010

I have just installed ubuntu 10 on a thinkpad t410. At first everything worked swimmingly, INCLUDING the wireless. After about five minutes, the wireless stopped working, in that it seemed to think it was still connected but pinging didn't work. I've now restarted several times, and each time I restart, the wireless works for about 1 minute, then stops working. If I try to disconnect and reconnect it will not reconnect (until I restart, that is).

iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and ifconfig shows an address, and "connection information" shows a varying percentage of connection.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Shows Connection But Doesn't Work

Jun 7, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

Networking :: NFS Connection With Varying UID?

Jan 23, 2011

I occasionally need to connect my laptop to different networks. I have an account on each of the machines, but as they are not coordinated, the UID of my account is different on each machine. Example

Machine.........Account UID
Laptop..............501
Server 1............526
Server 2............517

When I connect to the server, I need to have access to my files and directories present on both that server and my laptop - both read and write. There is no problem getting exports setup, but how to I setup my connections such that I connect using the proper UID - or is there another mechanism to do this?I haven't done that much work with NFS, but I'm assuming this has to have been done

Debian Configuration :: Connection WPA Personal Says Connected To Wl Network But No Internet Connection

Apr 15, 2011

THe problem with the debian desktop is like this: I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G installed and found by lsusb command. Ubuntu Networking :: Low Wireless Connection Percentage?

Feb 3, 2010

My old PC has new life thanks to Ubuntu 9.1. However, a few small problems still remain:

1. D-Link wireless adapter: My wireless connection percentage never seems to get higher than 70%, even though the wireless router is right outside the door. And to top it off, I can see other neighbor's networks and the signal strength is higher! I am running ndiswrapper if that helps, and the connection is WPA/WPA2, speed of 130 Mb/s which is great, but can I improve the signal?

2. If I leave the computer on and come back after a while, the monitor is black, and I can see that the wireless connection is still going, but I can't seem to "wake up" the computer. I have messed with the settings, but have not attempted anything in the terminal. Can someone provide a simple fix? I would like to Suspend or Hibernate, but they don't work (meaning, I can wake up the computer). So I have resorted to simply logging off each time, which works.

3. Watching streaming video using RealPlayer, many times the screen freezes, and I am unable to navigate to anywhere else on the computer. Meaning, the mouse moves, but cannot open, close, change, do anything on the computer. Ctrl-Alt-Dlt doesn't even work to pop up anything. Is there a less abrupt way to Force Quit than holding down the power button on my computer and restarting the whole thing? I am sure that is not too good for the computer.

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up Bluetooth Connection Between Two Computers Throws Connection Refused (111)

Apr 3, 2011

I'm trying to create a PAN (Personal Area Network) using a laptop (Siragon ML-1040) and my desktop computer, but I get the Connection Refused (111) error.

Blueman doesn't detect any network service between the two computers unless I start PAND on one of them and then it detects the NAP service. That, only after I enable the NAP/Workgroup services on the Services submenu in Blueman. However, it doesn't work neither with the NM plugins or without them (dhclient and that other one I can't remember the name of).

Any clues over here? I'm using pand 4.91 and blueman.

Networking :: Connection Destroy Time With Net Filter Connection Tracking?

May 13, 2011

When I have video running and the video stops, I see that the connection is destroyed in about 5 seconds, which is what I want. If, rather than stopping the video, I pull the plug, I have seen it take 350 and 380 seconds before the connection is destroyed. Why is there such a large difference in the time to destroy a video connection between stopping the video and pulling the plug on it when using net filter connection tracking? How can I shorten the time for the connection to get destroyed when pulling the plug?

Networking :: Use The Laptop With The Wireless Connection To Share The Internet Connection?

Feb 4, 2010

I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 Wlan0 Connection Drops Network Manager Indicates Still Connected?

Network Manager still shows bars indicating the network strength and shows that it's connected to the network in the dropdown. Selecting the network again causes it to indicate that it disconnects and reconnects. At this point I have wireless until the connection drops again. Possibly relevant details: This is the Purdue PAL2.0 network, which can be tricky to connect to, particularly for Linux users. It's a hidden network using WPA2 and PEAP. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1420n laptop, circa August 2007.

However, when I click the Configure button, the Network Connection window appears but there's nothing in the Wired panel. Should there be a eth0 in that panel? Since then, there's nothing in my Network Connection window, though I can still connect to my router with eth0. Now even after I reinstalled the Network Manager, I still don't get anything.
