I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.10.After I updated to 9.10, my wireless connection stoppped working. I can access the network but I get no response or what so ever in my browser.Downloading language support or any software doesn't work either.Haven't changed anything to my settings and checked the router. Router works just fine.

I had shut down my laptop at work last week and when I booted it up the wired internet connect was not working.The wireless connection is working (I'm typing now via wireless).I have WinXP Pro on this machine (but I've never used it--I'm all Linux now). So I booted into WinXP and turned off the wireless and got internet connection through the ethernet cable, so it doesn't seem to be the cable or my ethernet card.Here is the output of "ifconfig"

I am using Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. I a, using my internet through wifi and it was working fine but suddenly it start strange activities... like when I restart ubuntu it work for few clicks but then suddenly stopp even wifi is showing connected but I cant use internet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLike many others it seems, my wireless has stopped working since a recent upgrade The answer does not lie in analysis of logs, settings etc. but surely with those who did it - they should provide a fix. I cannot believe everyone expects each individual users to go into their own analysis of why this is no longer working as it is clearly widespread. I have been using Ubuntu for 18 months without this problem on the same dual-boot laptop, and it still works on Windows as before, only Ubuntu 10.4 has recently stopped my network card from working.
I need to know when this will be fixed. I have been embarrassed by promoting Ubuntu to many colleagues who now also cannot work at home on their wireless networks. Seriously disillusioned I may start looking for a more stable alternative to Windows.

View 2 Replies View Relatedrunning ubuntu 10.10 on a toshiba laptop recently the wireless Internet stopped working from our netgear router, it still works for the Ienova laptop and emachines desktop using the router but this laptop will not work wirelessly internet cuts in and out on this laptop when on wireless when it didn't previously do so it reads a connection but will not load up web pages unless hard wired in with an ethernet cord.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.
I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.
I redownloaded broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...
I am running Fedora 14. I've had an ASUS wireless adapter working for a few months now, with no problems. Today, I installed updates, one of which required a computer reboot (not just logging out and back in). I rebooted the computer, and when it came back up, the wireless adapter did not work.The adapter is visible after lsusb, but there is no wireless showing after iwconfig. What happened? How do I fix it?

I have a netbook that i am using while i am backpacking through asia. it has both ubuntu netbook ed, and winXP dual booting on it. out of the blue, i could not aquire an ip address through dhcp. This was true in both windows and linux, AND true while using either a wireless or wired connection. ok, that is odd, but not a big deal, i will just set the ip / subnet mask / gateway / dns manually. After doing this the computer reports properly connecting to the internet (did the same tests and got the same results in both nix and winxp), however I could not do anything on the internet. could not ping, nor do a dns lookup much less anything else.
scraching my head I looked around the internet for a solution and came across 'netsh int ip reset' this is a command I typed into the windows command line. I'm not sure what it does, but it worked so far as now

My Intel Corporation WiFi Link 1000 Series wireless card stopped working yesterday after I did an update via Update Manager.After the upgrade, wireless is disabled and the option to enable it in Network Manager is grayed out. I thought that it might be the new kernel, but changing back to the old kernel I still have the problem.

I boot up, internet doesn't work. What do I do? I get the internet icon with a read exclamation mark on it and by default "enable networking" is disabled. This is the second time it has happened to me.

So I did some research online and found a site that looked like it would work because the comments were good. I did what it said by removing the network manager and then i had to re-install it blah blah blah. Long story short his computer is still without internet. I tried to download the network manager on my computer and install it on his computer. I dont think it worked.If anyone could help me find the correct network manager to download for his computer and then help me get internet back onto his computer.

I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.10 and now my sound doesn't work (note: I don't know if sound was working on 9.4, since I only ran that long enough to upgrade again) Sound was working just fine under 8.10, and I just tried booting up with a livecd I had handy, which is 8.04.1 and sound worked right off the bat, no problems.I've checked the volumes on everything, including the master volume which WAS initially set to 0.Sadly, turning that up did nothing.The Pulseaudio Volume Control app seems to think nothing's wrong- it's picking up the sound from various applications just fine, the volumes are all on, etc. (aplay lists my soundcard fine:

I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my VMware stopped working. I got a message to recompile into the kernel. I followed the prompts and it was unsuccessful. I tried to uninstall and reinstall VMware getting the same error. See below an extract from the log file.Before you can run VMware, serveral moduels must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel.

The problem i'm having is that my microphone stopped working after the upgrade to 10.10. Ubuntu doesn't seen any sort of input device any more, no line-in , no mic ( front as back ).Own on to the specs of my machine:It has a realtek ALC861-VD audio chip.2 mic jacks, 1 line-in , 2 out (front and back) and a coaxial port thing .The os is a upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 and everything except this and my tv card sound works.I have pulse audio tools and alsa mixer ( although it broke during upgrade ) installed.alsa info is available upon request, so is any other info may you need it.

It was working good till i did the distribution update to Kubuntu 10.04. After the upgrade while startup, a message is displayed on the screen saying

I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14R which is i think is more than capable for running Unity 3D. When I rebooted after upgrade there was just a blank wallpaper screen, without Unity interface at all.

Wakeonlan was working just fine with Wheezy on this machine. After upgrade, wakeonlan will resume from suspend but not from shutdown.
I have no problem with other machines (same software setup) after upgrade. None of my other machines have a broadcom NIC.
No BIOS settings were changed during the upgrade. If I enter the BIOS on boot and make sure settings are correct then 'save' and shutdown, without booting to debian, I can then successfully wakeonlan. Then, if I do not boot debian, but shutdown before debian starts, I can wakeonlan successfully again.
If I boot debian and then shutdown, game over: wakeonlan nolonger works.

Normally I see a icon at topbar that tells me I'm connected but now it doesn't.I connected my laptop to my router directly and downloaded WiFi radar to see if that works. That program says: "Not connected".I'm sure the internet card is connected and the switch on my laptop is on. I only deleted BlueTooth, but I don't think that's the problem.
