Ubuntu :: All Of A Sudden Internet Stopped Working

My brothers computer uses Ubuntu. All of a sudden the internet stopped working. So I did some research online and found a site that looked like it would work because the comments were good. I did what it said by removing the network manager and then i had to re-install it blah blah blah. Long story short his computer is still without internet. I tried to download the network manager on my computer and install it on his computer. I dont think it worked.If anyone could help me find the correct network manager to download for his computer and then help me get internet back onto his computer.
I was just doing the normal stuff, working with my raid-setup. Then I needed to reboot. I did that, and then my internet sharing just stopped working?I remember I just did aapt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade && apt-get autoremove && apt-get cleanbefore booting, and I just dont rembember if that said anyting crucial, but I really dont think so. Anyways, my LAN i working, all my LAN computers speak with each others, and I have internet (...) on the server. But my sharing just doesnt work. This is how I share my internet:
I recently setup an ssh tunnel and wrote a script to connect to my Home PC from my laptop no matter where I am.
I have previously tested this on my own network and multiple other networks while I was over at my friends houses, and it worked completely fine.
So just now I decided to use it after about a day or two after not using it and now nothing happens. Normally it prompts me for a password and takes about 5 seconds then I am in.
I'm using openssh, vinagre, and dyndns for the hostname. Here is the script:
I boot up, internet doesn't work. What do I do? I get the internet icon with a read exclamation mark on it and by default "enable networking" is disabled. This is the second time it has happened to me.
From one day to the other it crashed... So, I've deleted the link and when I try to install it again the PC failed to detect the device... But it works on windows... Even when I try to put my card on a device of the same operator, it works in a Toshiba with Ubuntu 10.10 but not on mine PC... I've an ASUS F3Sseries and all of the updates installed
I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.10.After I updated to 9.10, my wireless connection stoppped working. I can access the network but I get no response or what so ever in my browser.Downloading language support or any software doesn't work either.Haven't changed anything to my settings and checked the router. Router works just fine.
I had shut down my laptop at work last week and when I booted it up the wired internet connect was not working.The wireless connection is working (I'm typing now via wireless).I have WinXP Pro on this machine (but I've never used it--I'm all Linux now). So I booted into WinXP and turned off the wireless and got internet connection through the ethernet cable, so it doesn't seem to be the cable or my ethernet card.Here is the output of "ifconfig"

I am using Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. I a, using my internet through wifi and it was working fine but suddenly it start strange activities... like when I restart ubuntu it work for few clicks but then suddenly stopp even wifi is showing connected but I cant use internet.
my Internet connection stopped working suddenly after updating the packages using synaptec package manager and rebooting it..can anyone say me why did this happen.BTW,mine is ubuntu 10.10 and i am absolute new to linux.I had to configure my n/w connections right from the scrap again
running ubuntu 10.10 on a toshiba laptop recently the wireless Internet stopped working from our netgear router, it still works for the Ienova laptop and emachines desktop using the router but this laptop will not work wirelessly internet cuts in and out on this laptop when on wireless when it didn't previously do so it reads a connection but will not load up web pages unless hard wired in with an ethernet cord.
I use Fedora now for 2 days and all worked fine, but now I have a problem:My wireless internet doesn't work anymore. Normally I see a icon at topbar that tells me I'm connected but now it doesn't.I connected my laptop to my router directly and downloaded WiFi radar to see if that works. That program says: "Not connected".I'm sure the internet card is connected and the switch on my laptop is on. I only deleted BlueTooth, but I don't think that's the problem.
I've had Debian on my laptop for around 4 months which I rarely use. I'm using Squeeze since it seems to be the only release that will work with my ethernet card.The internet had been working fine for a couple of months but broke when I tried to allow port forwarding for torrents. im not quite sure how to succintly say what is happening. the general idea is that my internet stopped working and I dont know why. I have a netbook that i am using while i am backpacking through asia. it has both ubuntu netbook ed, and winXP dual booting on it. out of the blue, i could not aquire an ip address through dhcp. This was true in both windows and linux, AND true while using either a wireless or wired connection. ok, that is odd, but not a big deal, i will just set the ip / subnet mask / gateway / dns manually. After doing this the computer reports properly connecting to the internet (did the same tests and got the same results in both nix and winxp), however I could not do anything on the internet. could not ping, nor do a dns lookup much less anything else.
scraching my head I looked around the internet for a solution and came across 'netsh int ip reset' this is a command I typed into the windows command line. I'm not sure what it does, but it worked so far as now
I have been using my laptop as a development machine for a few months now, developing php/mysql applications, and testing them offline via the same laptop by pointing the browser to url.
But a few days ago, my url stopped working and I discovered that it will now only work if I have an active internet connection plugged in. Why has this happened and how to I fix my test server so localhost works with or without an internet connection via an ethernet cable.
I installed 11.04 last week. Everything was working brilliantly until I turned on my laptop today. Now my wireless internet is running soooo slow. Requests take like 5 seconds, then it loads the page for about 10 seconds. Last night it was running fast.Chrome/Chromium/Firefox all run super slow. I tried turning off wireless-N and using G instead, but that didn't help. My windows 7 desktop is not experiencing the same problems in Chrome, or Firefox. I'm not sure if it's updates that I installed yesterday that didn't take until I restarted today
i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success.Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

I recently did a clean install of ubuntu 10.4 and finally got everything working. All of a sudden my sound stop working and i can seem to tell whats wrong. The strange thing is though when i first turn on the computer i can here the drums at the login screen but after logging in there is no sound anywhere. I checked all the sound preferences and everything looks alright, nothing was muted. I am pretty much stumped..
When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
I had clicked on the upgrade notification in Update Manager. After 3 hours of downloading, it stopped abruptly. Now when I try, I get a message saying could not download, check internet connection. I am able to visit other sites, and am actually downloading the CD itself without any problem.
resubscribed to Rapidshare and in the past could easily download my friend's discussion papers using the file manager called DTA that integrates into Firefox. I have taken out a new subscription to RS and instead of getting the files I am receiving small html referer files. In theory this should be corrected by ticking a direct download setting on RS, but it is making no difference. I can manually download the files so I am certain the files are on RS in full form. I am also successfully auto logging into RS and this means the name and password are being handed over correctly
After I installed Windows XP on my leftover partition, I decided to reinstall grub2.
Now when I reboot grub throws me in the grub shell, if I then type configfile /grub/grub.cfg it starts grub like its supposed to. Tho I cant seem to be able to go straight to the grub menu and no to the shell.
Have just started to use look at crontab. I could use Scheduled Tasks as well as crontab -e in terminal.
I must have changed something because now Scheduled Tasks just seems to load then dropout. Loading a task through terminal is accepten (crontab -e) but doesn't work.
It was working fine. Now, when I boot the computer(9.10 32 bit), I get the message asking me about the certificate. But Pandora never seems to load. I tried to reinstall the AIR app, but it tells me that it is running. I can't find it though. If I try to open Pandora again, nothing ever happens
I got a call from a friend who did the distrubution upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 and all was well for about 2 weeks and then his desktop icons disappeared. He kept running it that way and never looked for help until a couple of days ago he tried to plug in a card reader to get some pictures from his camera and nothing happened. that was when he discovered that he couldn't run Nautilus at all. I had him purge nautilus and reinstall it but then he couldn't even log in to Ubuntu. Very strange indeed. Anyone else experience this? After going over all the settings and finding them what they should be, I just installed 10.04 and all is well except that he lost a few photos.

I have been using Ubuntu for many years now and pressing ctrl + alt + d used to minimize all windows and show the desktop, but this stopped working with 10.10. I checked keyboard shortcuts but don't see a way to turn it back on there.
I was SSHd into my laptop which is right next to me, then it lost battery power and turned off. When I switch it on, I can't FTP, SSH into it and the Network Drive (Samba) won't work.
I installed 10.10 on release date and the microphone has worked great until now. It just stopped working. I'm on an hp pavilion dv9620 running ubuntu 10.10.
I have a computer running 8.04.4. After a large number of updates, I can no longer run ubuntu-tweak correctly. I have been using Ubuntu 10.10 for about a week now, I have had many, many problems, but usually figure them out by searching through this forum, except this time:I have an HP touchsmart tx2 1025dx laptop. When I installed it, everything worked great, sound, mouse, and even the touchscreen. Right now I noticed that when I press the button on by laptop which toggles the touchpad, it works but after it would freeze the menus, so that they would not drop down, I have confirmed this after many restarts. Now the touchpad has stopped working completely. Although if use the toggle button, it will still freeze by menus. It also somehow stops my keyboard from typing things into programs, like firefox, but still somehow the control-alt delete still lets me restart it.
My question is how can I reset the mouse settings/preferances to how they were when I installed? I found something a while back that was xorgconfig??? but it has since been taken out of ubuntu 10.10 (I read this somewhere, please correct me if I'm wrong.)
