I had clicked on the upgrade notification in Update Manager. After 3 hours of downloading, it stopped abruptly. Now when I try, I get a message saying could not download, check internet connection. I am able to visit other sites, and am actually downloading the CD itself without any problem.
View 2 RepliesI use ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala as my desktop OS. My internet connection is creating problems these days, ever since I started downloading torrents for iso files. Whenever the downloads in transmission client is running, the internet gets disconnected abruptly, and even my other downloads in d4x stops. On using the plog command in the terminal, it shows the following:

I dont understand much of it, as am a new user using linux systems from only a few months ago, can't find out. Also on closing the transmission client the other downloads in d4x run perfectly well and so does my internet connection.
I recently bougt an Asus N61DA with Windows 7. I decided to install Ubuntu alongside Windows, so I made the Ubuntu CD, just like it said. Then I inserted the CD and restarted the computer. I started the installer (ubuntu 10.10 64-bit) and chose the option where it says "install ubuntu alongside other operating systems", or something like that. So, the installation started, but then I lost the internet connection, and the installation stopped.I re-connected the computer, but the installation still wouldn't continue. I restarted the computer and then nothing happened. I've restarted it several times, but still nothing happens. I've inserted the Windows recovery CD, but it doesn't work

Loss of internet connection after upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 Like the title says, I lost my internet connection after upgrading my Ubuntu system from 8.04 to 8.10.I used the downloaded automated method. It appeared to work fine on its initial reboot into 8.10. But I noticed the internet icon indicated loss of connection. Even so, I was still able to browse the net through Firefox. But then when I rebooted the next day the opposite was true: the connection icon indicated connection, but Firefox would not actually connect, nor would update manager. It has been like this since. This is a dual boot machine, and the Windows XP Pro side still connects to the internet as usual, no problems.So how can I make my new 8.10 system connect to the internet?

I upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 lts yesterday. The upgrade went smoothly. but now I have a very slow internet connection. It is as if I am on a dial up when I have a broadband speed of 20 MB. What can I do to fix or perhaps roll-back the installation to the previous proper working state.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use the CD upgrade method to upgrade my kubuntu 10.04 to 10.10.Not to mention,the ISO image of the CD is this one :kubuntu-10.10-alternate-i386.iso.At the first run I choose YES for the prompt asking for internet connection or whatever, but I immediately realise that I have chosen a wrong option, so I exit and restart the upgrade all over again.On the second run, I choose NO for the prompt , then the installation continues until it reaches the 'fetching files' stage. It pops up and says "The upgrade has aborted. Please check your internet connection or installation media and try again. All files downloaded so far are kept."
I don't want to reinstall the whole system again because I want my applications;I don't want to use the updater to upgrade because I have a low internet speed .
In Ubuntu, How can you tell if your connection is being monitored? Have a home system, me and girlfriend are only users. Lately ALLl websites are taking longer to download. She claims her system and bank accounts were compromised. So am wondering if the connection is being monitored. Lots of tools for "windows" to help determine, but what about linux / ubuntu?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 9.10. My internet connection is an ADSL which I have set up using "pppoeconf". The connection starts at boot up. I can also start it if needed by using "sudo pon dsl-provider" and can stop it by using "poff dsl-provider".Recently I noticed that when I start my computer, there is some program (or programs) which is connecting automatically to the internet and downloading and uploading a lot of data. The data transferred can exceed 200 mb or 300 mb in an hour. I don't know what is being uploaded or downloaded.I know for sure that no file sharing programs like bittorrent clients are started at bootup so it is strange that this much data to be downloaded and uploaded without me sharing files or downloading files explicitly. The update software also does not run by default as I have opted to start it manually.
Is there any application which shows the programs that are connected to any particular port and transmitting and receiving data?In Windows XP I use a program called "What's Running" which clearly lists the programs using the different ports in the local machine and the remote IP addresses that the program is connected to. It also shows which program is transmitting and receiving data at any point in time. Is there any similar program for Linux?My internet connection is a data limited package otherwise I probably would not have bothered.
So I just installed ubuntu from a net install, and updated from the internet and posted on this site through firefox while installing vlc wich just froze at 90%.....
but when I try to add community repos it comes up with errors. And while running a system check it says I have no internet connection...
I'm connected through ethernet on a router wich works with the g5 in the other room running osx, and the pc upstairs running ubuntu meerkat. Now I had this same problem with SUSE 11.1 and worked around it by adding through terminal but I was never able to add from the GUI.
I have been using my laptop as a development machine for a few months now, developing php/mysql applications, and testing them offline via the same laptop by pointing the browser to url.
But a few days ago, my url stopped working and I discovered that it will now only work if I have an active internet connection plugged in. Why has this happened and how to I fix my test server so localhost works with or without an internet connection via an ethernet cable.
I recently decided that I want to install mplayer on fedora 13. Problem is, everytime I try, a new problem arises. I've tried add/remove software, and it said "package download failed, check internet connection" which doesn't make sense because I'm connected to the internet and my connection is fine. So, then I tried yum install mplayer, that gave me an error.

I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my VMware stopped working. I got a message to recompile into the kernel. I followed the prompts and it was unsuccessful. I tried to uninstall and reinstall VMware getting the same error. I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14R which is i think is more than capable for running Unity 3D. When I rebooted after upgrade there was just a blank wallpaper screen, without Unity interface at all.

When I tried to reboot, I got the grub screen, and when selecting Ubuntu I get lots of text messages scrolling by, but it freezes at battery check.
The machine boots fine into Vista.
Rather than spend a lot of time trying to figure out what went wrong in the upgrade, my inclination is to delete the Wubi installation from within Windows, and then do a fresh install of 10.04 under Wubi. Is this feasible/sensible?
There are a handful of files I would like to salvage from the prior installation, however. Could I do that with a Live CD since the prior installation was under Wubi?
I've just upgraded to Natty. During the upgrade no errors showed. However, when I now boot ubuntu (either recovery mode or normal), the boot process hangs at:
'checking battery state'
I searched for similair problems in this forum, but the solutions in other posts(sudo apt-get update & upgrade etc.) did not help. I'm not sure if it is related or important, but when it hangs, it also shows something like:
'starting automatic crash reporter [fail]'
'not starting jetty'
'saned disabled'
(I can't copy there of course, so it is probably not exactly like this, or in this order...) What can I do to get my ubuntu boot again?

I switch it off, restarted and everything seemed to be fine, i got the desktop without troubles.
Then i tried to boot from the live Key and run a fsck but it didn't work, i got some error like:
superblock could not be read....and at the end it says to run e2fsck
I did it and i got the same error...
So i restarted ubuntu and i decided to try:
And i got a blue screen where i selected the first option (something alike restart in normal way)
At the next restart i finally got the checking and it was fine! why i can't run fsck or e2fsck from live key
