I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my VMware stopped working. I got a message to recompile into the kernel. I followed the prompts and it was unsuccessful. I tried to uninstall and reinstall VMware getting the same error. See below an extract from the log file.Before you can run VMware, serveral moduels must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel.

I've just upgraded my Ubuntu version a week ago and got a problem that the Unity UI won't running after upgrade. My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14R which is i think is more than capable for running Unity 3D. When I rebooted after upgrade there was just a blank wallpaper screen, without Unity interface at all.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi've suddenly got problems with flash - it was working fine until a cuple of days ago.i have flash 10.1.82. 76 ubuntu0.10.04.2 on ubuntu 10.04, but videos and other flash sites tell me i need to upgrade to the latest flash version 10.i've tried flash-aid, which seems to run ok but i still have the problem.at the same time, i can suddenly only run firefox tools > add-ons in safe mode - if i choose tools > addons in normal mode, fx locks up completely, and finally gives me the option to force quit. i've tried re-enabling add-ons one at a time, but no problem until i come out of safe mode.i'm wondering if this is a firefox problem rather than ubuntu or flash. my firefox is 3.6.8

I checked the Adobe site and found what appears to be a later version, so I downloaded it, extracted it, then copied it to the relevant directories. That changed nothing at the time, but this morning it stopped working in Firefox as well.

Flash was working perfect until one of the last software updates. Now all I get is "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed."
I tried running:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer and got the following message"

I was just wondering how long I have to upgrade to 11.04 until Maverick Meerkat is EOL. I have talked to other people, and they say to wait about a month until after the release to fix all bugs and stuff. Is this a good Idea? Or should I update now and just get it over with?

You do not have the correct version of the flash player. Download the correct version".So, I clicked on the download link, which took me to the Adobe site where I selected APT for Ubuntu 10.04+, but that didn't make any difference, so I then tried to view the same video using Firefox, but that displayed the same message.Could someone please tell me what I need to do, in order to get Flash working again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new pc after my two pc's decided to die. I have had them for many years, maybe around 2001. So, I am new to this 64 bit OS. I'm running squeeze amd64. I am having some troubles with flash in Iceweasel. It just stopped working one day. So, I downloaded Firefox to see if flash would work in it. Here's the interesting thing. Iceweasel will play flash. I will close the browser and reopen to discover it no longer wants to play flash. I'll open Firefox, then close it. I'll then open Iceweasel and Flash will work in Iceweasel again.
This happens often. To get Flash to work, I just close Iceweasel, open Firefox, close Firefox, open Iceweasel and go to a flash site and all is good. Is there something I can do to get Flash to always work without opening Firefox?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded this system 3 or 4 times from Lucid to Meerkat without any problems. After a nasty update to my Natty installation I have re-installed Lucid and am upgrading to Meerkat, then on to Natty again. However when I try to upgrade I am getting the error below.

was using swfdec standalone flash player in 9.04. After upgrading to 10.04 it doesnt work anymore. swf files are opened, you see a starting image but the movie is not playing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently use Karmic Koala (9.10) and want to upgrade to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). The thing is that Update Manager allows me to upgrade only to 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) but I cannot upgrade to Lucid Lynx because of a bug which freezes my keyboard and mouse. Also, upgrading first to 10.04 and then to 10.10 is quite time consuming. Can I upgrade directly to 10.10 from 9.10 without 10.04 acting as a mediator?

I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.10 and now my sound doesn't work (note: I don't know if sound was working on 9.4, since I only ran that long enough to upgrade again) Sound was working just fine under 8.10, and I just tried booting up with a livecd I had handy, which is 8.04.1 and sound worked right off the bat, no problems.I've checked the volumes on everything, including the master volume which WAS initially set to 0.Sadly, turning that up did nothing.The Pulseaudio Volume Control app seems to think nothing's wrong- it's picking up the sound from various applications just fine, the volumes are all on, etc. (aplay lists my soundcard fine:

I can access the network but I get no response or what so ever in my browser.Downloading language support or any software doesn't work either.Haven't changed anything to my settings and checked the router. Ubuntu doesn't seen any sort of input device any more, no line-in , no mic ( front as back ).Own on to the specs of my machine:It has a realtek ALC861-VD audio chip.2 mic jacks, 1 line-in , 2 out (front and back) and a coaxial port thing .The os is a upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 and everything except this and my tv card sound works.I have pulse audio tools and alsa mixer ( although it broke during upgrade ) installed.alsa info is available upon request, so is any other info may you need it.

I have two hard disks and i had one of the partitions mounted automatically while startup. I did that by reading the first method posted here

It was working good till i did the distribution update to Kubuntu 10.04. After the upgrade while startup, a message is displayed on the screen saying

Like many others it seems, my wireless has stopped working since a recent upgrade The answer does not lie in analysis of logs, settings etc. but surely with those who did it - they should provide a fix. I cannot believe everyone expects each individual users to go into their own analysis of why this is no longer working as it is clearly widespread. I have been using Ubuntu for 18 months without this problem on the same dual-boot laptop, and it still works on Windows as before, only Ubuntu 10.4 has recently stopped my network card from working.
I need to know when this will be fixed. I have been embarrassed by promoting Ubuntu to many colleagues who now also cannot work at home on their wireless networks. Seriously disillusioned I may start looking for a more stable alternative to Windows.

Wakeonlan was working just fine with Wheezy on this machine. After upgrade, wakeonlan will resume from suspend but not from shutdown.
I have no problem with other machines (same software setup) after upgrade. None of my other machines have a broadcom NIC.
No BIOS settings were changed during the upgrade. If I enter the BIOS on boot and make sure settings are correct then 'save' and shutdown, without booting to debian, I can then successfully wakeonlan. Then, if I do not boot debian, but shutdown before debian starts, I can wakeonlan successfully again.
If I boot debian and then shutdown, game over: wakeonlan nolonger works.
