I have been having problems with Samba sharing from my Ubuntu-Server to all of my Windows 7 machines. All of the machines are able to access the samba shares however when i try to write to these shares i get a "Access Denied" error. This only happens under windows 7, my Ubuntu laptop easily writes to these shares. PS My permissions are read/write to all
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have set up RHEL 5 file server with Winbind and samba services running.I am able to assign and authenticate windows XP users against my RHEL 5 server.No issues.But one or two of my users are using Windows 7 Ultimate edition and they are not able to access my network samba shares.I can view the shares in windows 7 box but trying to access gives me "network access denied error".But i can access the same share in Windows xp machine for the above tested users.Working great but not in windows 7 box.I haven't tested with Vista OS yet.

I tried Username = W7 usernameDomain=my workgroup (MSHOME)Password=W7 login passwordbut it prompts me same thing again...checked some other related threads but couldn't get any luck.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI cannot access my Ubuntu samba server using windows XP or 7. I keep getting prompted for a username/password. I have created both a unix username with password and a samba username with the same password i used for the unix user. When windows prompts me for the username/password i give it the same one i created on the samba server, but it still will not take it. I know samba is running because i can view the shares but cannot access them without getting prompted for username/password. I just have the one user for now while i am testing, but there will be more.
I am using Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.
Ive managed to install samba, I've shared a folder. I can access from a Windows 7 machine via \ubuntupublic. I can put files in the folder form the ubuntu machine and edit them on the windows box. I can put files in the folder/share from the Windows box but then I cannot edit them on the Ubuntu machine (they are read only and have a "Lock" over them). I can fix this by going to the properties of the file/folder in Windows and manually assigning "Everybody" full control (then the lock disappears and all is well.) I want read/write access to all the folders contents from both machines all the time (security is NOT a concern I WANT the permissions wide open) what am I doing wrong?

I created a share that is browseable to all systems, and I made sure to create a user account via the smbpasswd utility. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a linux domain (FEDORA CORE 1) and two laptop's which are part of my domain with windows xp pro service pack 2.I have given two ip's to both the laptop's being primary as global and secondary as local.I have configured printer in one laptop and shared.Till last week i was accessing that shared printer from my other laptop and every thing was working fine.Last week i formatted one laptop,(which dose not have shared printer) from then onwards i am not able to access my other laptop. I get the following message when i try to accessmy other Laptop,"you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"P.S : If i have only local IP i am able to see both the systems and i am able to access my printer, this problem comes only when i add global IP to both the machines.And also i have stopped the firewall and other things.

Is there a way to set the permissions on files and folders from a Windows server or workstation? The partition is NTFS and is mounted as NTFS, but whenever I right click on a file or folder on the Ubuntu server from a Windows computer and try to change the permissions I get "Access Is Denied".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my ubuntu comp setup as a media server and works fine with mythtv etc but I also want to access the files from my computers in the other rooms (most have windows 7). I was able to share the file containing the videos easy enough by right clicking the file and checking all of the sharing options the first time. I have been able to access all the files that i originally put in the folder and stream video to my other computers without issue.
However any new files I add to the folders I am now unable to access. The files show up but when I click on them it says I don't have permission. I have tried unsharing the folder and redoing it but I come to the same issue. I am sure I am just forgetting an easy step but I can't think of what that is. Also want to make sure that any new files I add to this folder will work instantly across the network.
I try to access my ubuntu machine via my Windows Machine (Samba Server on Ubuntu Machine). I'm installing Ubuntu 10.04 for a friend, dual booting it with windows vista. The installation was going just fine up until the 4th step- partitioning the drives. After designating space for vista and ubuntu and running it, it popped up the window and displayed 0%... for the next hour. After looking around on ubuntu forums for a solution, I tried manually partitioning the drives in vista. Vista wouldn't let me, saying that access was denied. I tried using gparted next, which had an error with it as well. Does anyone know what i can do to work around this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a shared directory on another machine but I can't get it to mount as a samba share. The permission denied doesn't say where/which permission is denied. Is it on the remote on on the local machine? The remote has sharing enabled for the shareddocs directory and after I have mkdir'ed the local mount point I open it's permissions too. The verbose response from mount.cfis looks like this:

When I run out of space on my Ubuntu partition, which will probably happen with me being the untidy person I am, is there a way to resize the partition in Windows or Ubuntu that will allow the other to boot? As I've heard stories of using Gparted to resize a Windows partition doesn't allow Windows Vista to boot up as it removes a crucial part of the operating system? I have adequate space to give to Ubuntu on my NTFS partition. May I also add that to install Ubuntu I had to use the partitioner that came with the installer, because the Windows Disk Manager wouldn't let me partition the NTFS drive, because it Denied my Access.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a OpenSUSE 11 machine set up as a domain controller. I have set my printer up to be shared to Windows machines logging into the domain. I was able to install the printer to my Windows machines. When you go to the printers folder in Windows, it shows the printer but says "access denied" instead of the usual "ready". If I print to the shared printer the job will go through. I am thinking it is an authentication issue because if I log into Windows machine as "root" and let it build a profile, the printer doesn't show the "access denied" message. How do I allow other users to have access to the printer?

eth0 is connected to a router, which provides Internet access. It is assigned an IP 192.168.1.2 by the router. I manually configured eth1 to have an IP address 192.168.5.1. It is connected to a switch. Systems having IP addresses 192.168.5.x are connected to this switch. I ran these two commands for NAT:

The same profile is working using samba 2.2.8 but not working in samba 3.5.3..
I have a network drive setup on windows to a samba share that is on ubuntu 9.1. The folder im connecting to has a couple symbolic links setup and all of them give me an Access denied error when I try to open them. I have dont everything I can think off including chowning all the folders to the user that Im logged in as and doing chmod 777 on all folders and files. I have tried deleting the link and recreating it and nothing works. This was working fine a few days ago and now it doesn't.
