Software :: Samba Share Not Accessible Access Is Denied Error Message
Jun 24, 2010
I have Samba 3.5.3-61 running on a Fedora Core 13 system. I created a share that is browseable to all systems, and I made sure to create a user account via the smbpasswd utility. When I try to connect to the server from a Windows XP system, I am able to enter the appropriate sharename as well as the username and password.

using OEL 5.4, which uses Gnome 2.16 interface I can see my share from Windows, but whatever I do, I get messages that my share is not accessible. The whole user thing is quite complex, dont understand what user I should use on Windows, what password, what user should have what rights on linux.
I'll post smb.conf tomorrow ... The problem is that Windows lacks any decent error message, stating what kind of error message. Is there no Samba client for Windows?

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 and the Samba addon to configure my shares to my Windows terminals. This is what I got
Firewall off (utf disabled)
Internal Sata /dev/sda1 (EXT4 FS)
External USB HDD /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/SG1500GB (EXT4 FS)
I have two shares
1. //home/test - Which I can see and access with no problems (can't write to it though even though I set the share as writable?, but, I can read from it). This is available to everyone. My windows terminal can see this folder and access it. This is on my main 80GB internal drive /dev/sda1.
2. //media/SG1500GB/Music. I set this up for everyone full access and I can see it at all my Windows machines but,I can't get into the folder. Windows keeps giving me an error stating network path not found.I also try to access it via the Nautilus (Places/Network/system/music) and get an error message "unable to mount location, Failed to mount windows share". This drive is mounted per the disk utility.

have a server here running opensuse 11.3 that I need to access via network using samba.
Samba is working so far and I can ping the serve and browse the shares from windows (WinXP) computers; but only via the IP.Now I've read up on samba on this forum and other sources, like the official samba documentation and compared my smb.conf with an older one on another server which works (and even copied this one over to the new one) - to no avail.I seem to be missing something and I just can't find it.Since the problem is probably not in the smb.conf (previously working one doesn't work on new server) - where else could I have screwed up?

I'm running slack64-current.I setup samba to share a printer on my home network. I can print to the printer locally. The printer is visible on the network. However when I try to print anything on the printer via samba (or cups for that matter) from either the local machine or the remote machine, everything acts as if the job went through, but nothing happens. I'm sure I've seen this before on another slack machine that is currently unavailable, but I can't remember what the answer was, and I'm trying to be more precise with this setup so that I actually learn something.

I have Linux installed on one machine with samba running and a second machine running XP. They are going through my router and I am using the same username/passwords for both machines and I have even gone to the point of allowing access to everyone for the share I created and the worgroup in samba is MSHOME just like my XP machine. When I view (or search) my workgroup computers my Linux machine shows up and so do the shares I created but when I try to open them I just get a message that permission is denied and I may not have permission to use this resource. I even tried setting access to the shared folder to 777 but still I can't open this share. Has anyone got any idea of why this is?

I have recently been attempting to install GASP for Python. After several attempts I finally managed to find the .tar file, since yum's GASP was severely outdated. After downloading, I have to extract the file to /usr/libexec/perf-core/scripts/python/, and once I tried to do so in the Ark package manager, nothing would extract after several attempts. I then tried to move it in the Dolphin FileBrowser and got this error message:
Access denied to /usr/libexec/perf-core/scripts/python/gasp-0.3.3.tar.gz.
After much googling and FAQ searching, I have had no results.I am running Fedora 14 KDE build, and have been doing so for about about a week, without any previous Linux experience, so it is probably user error.

i have search for a long time regarding this matter but i couldn't found nothing.... The facts are like this:
1. I have a server on Ubuntu Linux 10.10 with the following modules installed:
- Webmin 1.530
- BIND DNS Server
- Fetchmail Retrieval
- Dovecot
- Postfix
- a domain (www.domain.com) - the website it's not hosted on my machine
What i did until now:
- establish a local mail network like user@testserver.local
- successfully installed and configure Fetchmail Retrieval. like: user@domain.com mapped to user@testserver.local
2. The problem: Sending an e-mail using a POP3 client like Outlook from an local account! If i use the local address and try to deliver a message outside my local network the following error is sent by System Administrator: Code: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

I have been having off and on issues with my samba file shares. I am sharing a NTFS formated hard drive where the mount point is in my home directory, as well as a printer connected via USB. I am to the point where printing works (using it as an ipp print share, samba is configured for it, but I don't know if it works or not), and I can access the shared folder from Windows, but I can't access the shared folder from any Ubuntu machine. I get the error:

I recently installed 64-bit Ubuntu Maverick. This was a clean install as opposed to an upgrade. Since the install I have been having a heck of a time getting a remote filesystem mounted via nfs. The file system I have been trying to mount is located on my HDX-1000 media server. This machine is running a flavor a linux as it's operating system, and I have been using it for about 2 years now. I have been able to mount it's filesystem on all other machine in my house which include Windows 7, and a couple of earlier versions of Ubuntu linux. But I just could not get it to mount using Maverick. I kept getting the "mount.nfs access denied by server while mounting ..." message. Finally, I found a list of all the different parameters that can be specified on an entry in the fstab. The one that worked for me was simply to change the fstab entry from this:
Code:
HDX-Server1:/share/media/HDX-Server1 nfs rw,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,intr
to this:
Code:
HDX-Server1:/share/media/HDX-Server1 nfs rw,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,intr,nfsvers=3
That is one more little gremlin down. Just 34,689 to go.

My network comprises three PC's .... Windows XP, Windows 98SE and Ubuntu 9.04 running SAMBA. All PC's are configured WORKGROUP=WORKGROUP. The network connection To/From XP/UBUNTU via SAMBA Shares works perfectly OK. However, despite scouring all forum information regarding changes to Win98 ENCRYPTION, (Registry change re: DWORD "EnablePlainTextPasswords"), the Win98 PC refuses to connect to UBUNTU. The UBUNTU PC can conect to all the Win98 shared folders OK. I have disabled my Linux Firewall (Firestarter), I have run SMBCLIENT to check the user password for Win98 and it is validated OK. The Win98 error message is ....
"\Inspiron 510m is not accessible. The computer or sharename could not be found. Make Sure you typed it correctly and try again."
My samba.conf file is as follows ..... Any help or assistance PLEASE !

I am trying to use Wireshark and on startup the program pops up a window saying:
Couldn't run /usr/sbin/dumpcap in child process: Permission denied
Are you member of 'wireshark' group? Try running 'usermod -a -G wireshark <username>' as root.
I ran the usermod command to add my account in the group and checked it
Code:
less /etc/group
wireshark:x:490:myaccount
but the same error message pops up.

This is my first post. I am not all that new to Linux. I have done lots of reading on the OS but always felt a little timid when it came to trying out stuff. Here is my problem I have a stand alone samba server I am trying to setup to share all my digital photos and other doc. I can see the share from other machines. On the windows machines you can see the users home directory and the share itself in an folder icon. Whenever I try to access the share it asks for a passwd. I enter the passwd and the share folder is visible when I click on the folder I get and error message.

I'm relatively new to liunx and I have recently installed Fedora 9 to act as a media server. I thought everything was going well until I tried to connect to my Samba share but could not.Not sure what the netbios is but I believe this can be anything I want?So as far as I can tell, the laptop can see the Samba Share, Fedora can see it's own Samba share but nothing (both laptops XP and Vista or the Media Player) can connect to the /public folder..I don't login to either Laptop with a user account, so I believe I do not have to create a user.
