Ubuntu Networking :: 9.04 Wireless Working But Not Connecting
Apr 7, 2010
My Wireless worked once on Ubuntu but when I disconnected it i got stuck with connection trys that never succeed. On the two little lights only one is green, and when Ubuntu offers to have another try the password is not the same as the one I typed before (and of course is not the good one)
I installed F13 on an Acer laptop for a friend who is just beginning with Linux. This laptop has the dreaded Broadcom chipset and is using the b43 driver. When it was first installed, wireless was automatically detected and worked fine. However, as usual, there was about 200MB of updates after the install, and the wireless was downloading extremely slowly, so I connected eth0 just to complete the updates. Ever since, the wireless will not work. When the machine is booted, wireless is shown as disabled in Network Manager. I remembered that there was a wireless switch on the front of the laptop and switching it on allows me to check the enable wireless box, but wireless says device not ready.
ifconfig wlan0 up returns:
Code:
SIOCSFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill
I assumed this meant that the switch was in OFF position, but it is not. iwconfig shows the wireless is detected. It appears that there is a script for rf_kill somewhere in the filesystem that is keeping this from working.
Installed Ubuntu 9.1 - Linksys WUSB600 connects but no network access. I get "server not found", so no data being xmtted. It worked fine in ver 9.04 but not in 9.1
I recently installed the latest version of Kubuntu in a dual boot system with Windows XP on a Dell laptop. The dell laptop has a broadcom wireless device, and I was able to set up the driver and get wireless working. Then I booted into windows XP to make a whole bunch of updates/driver installations, and when I booted back into Kubuntu it would not connect to the wireless network. I am pretty sure the device is still active, because it picks up on the wireless networks in the area. But KWallet does not open to ask for my password on booting. Something is not set right, but I can't tell what.
in short : installed 9.10 on a dell inspiron 600m which has a broadcom bcm4401 ethernet and an intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B mini PCI. At this point, i'm not too picky about which one works (meaning neither of them currently work). nm-tool seems to pick up on both : the broadcom (eth0) is using the b44 driver, State is unavailable; the intel (eth1) is using the ipw2100 driver, it's State is disconnected.
i have encryption turned off, and the wireless sees a number of AP's (including mine).
i'm jumping off the good ship m$ and determined to make this work!
I am new to Linux and just put Ubuntu on my pc when i am using Ubuntu my wireless keeps connecting and disconnecting. Im not sure what I am suppose to do.
My laptop is a Sony Vaio NW130J
The wireless card/driver is Intel WiFi link 5100 AGN
I dont know anything about Linux so if you could please explain it as easy as possible.
just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my new HP Mini 210 (info). Everything is working fine -- webcam, shortcut keys etc, but I'm having some difficulties connecting to our wireless network. When I click on the network panel item, there are no networks visible. Now, I also have Windows 7 Starter on the netbook (what I'm using right now) and that's able to connect to the network fine.
I have a computer running Ubuntu, and a MacBook Pro. I need to buy a decently cheap wireless router that I can hook up to my Ubuntu so that it will send wifi signals and I can use the wifi to go online with my MacBook Pro. I was about to get one today, but remembered how Ubuntu is picky about working with things like that. I'm only going to be using it to get signals around the house which isn't that big at all.
So what would be the cheapest and decently efficient wireless routers that I can use which Ubuntu will cooperate with?
I always have been a windows user and my brother decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop, before he completed the full installation so I could use my wireless card. I have been reading various posts for the last two days and i am none the wiser. I have a linksys wireless G notebook WPC54G Ver.5. I have the software (drivers) for the card saved on my machine and have also installed NDISWrapper?
I just bought a new laptop. This one came with win7 home. The wireless works perfect. Today I installed ubuntu 10.4 next to windows. I made a first connection which went easy. But after 30 seconds it disconnects. Then it tries 30 seconds to reconnect. It reconnects and after 30 secodns or so, it disconnects again. It keeps doing this all the time on ubuntu while on windows it works without any problems. This is what sais under the device manager for my wirelesscard stuff:
Intel(R) WiFi 1000 BGN Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2 Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
i have a Levano S10e intel atom preccessor and the net-book is not connecting wirelessly to the network. i have tried at two locations and even plugged in a exterlal wifi adapter. it wouldnt connect then either, the only way to get connected is to use a cat5 cable. here is the ifconfig output with no cat5 inserted and it not connecting to the internet.:
I've recently installed Natty and the only problem I have with it so far is attempting to connect my Huawei E5830 Three Wireless modem via USB and successfully connecting to the Internet from it. I've fiddled around with the network settings and nothing, I've also done some work in the Terminal to try and correct the problem.
I have a Laptop running Fedora Core 10 (64 bit). I recently have fallen in love with window managers (openbox to be precise); the Problem is, when in these window managers, I cannot connect to wireless APs. I've tried restarting the network manager, but alas it has no effect. So, I'm left with terminal commands (YAY!!! I love any chance to use those.) so is there a command that I need to use to connect manually?
I am just staring in the world of Linux (I want to stop eating what Microsoft leaves behind). I have this minor problem using Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat). The OS had detected my CNET Wireless-G USB Dongle (CWD-854). I have a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT-120N). I see in the top right corner of the OS the wireless icon. When I click on it, it displays the SSID of my wireless. When I click on it, it ask me for my wireless password. It start to try to connect to my wireless router, but it always end up disconnecting.
I successfully did a dual boot on a HP Mini 1001TU netbook. However, the wireless doesn't connect. Over the internet, someone had a similar problem with his Dell notebook using a Karmic and said that Karmic has a bug that doesn't install the "Broadcom STA wireless Driver" and recommended a prerequisite wired internet connection then the following command line:
sudo apt-get update sudo-get -reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source Followed by a reboot which solves the problem.
I would like to try this out but the netbook only accepts a USB -router connection but my router doesn't have a USB port.
I'm having trouble connecting to our home wireless network in Kubuntu Lucid. I was hoping someone here might be able to help. I can connect with no problem in Ubuntu and Xubuntu; I'm having difficulty in Kubuntu only. It might just be me being unfamiliar with the KDE network management app, I don't know.
1. I click on the network icon in the system tray, and choose "manage connections". I click on the "wireless" tab, and click "add".
2. I enter the name of our network in the SSID field (our router doesn't broadcast its SSID; however, if I click "scan" the neighbors' wireless networks do appear in the list) under the "wireless" tab, then I go the "wireless security" tab, and choose "WPA/WPA2 - personal" and enter the password. I click OK.
3. Now when I right-click on the network icon and choose "create network connection", the new connection for our network that I just made shows up in the list, but it has an icon showing a pen on paper instead of the broadcasting signal icon that appears next to the neighboring networks. It also says my connection is "insecure", even though I chose WPA and put in the password. (Neighbors' networks do say WPA, WEP,etc.)
4. I select my network connection that I created above, and click connect, and nothing happens. No connection is created. how the KDE network app works; I've used mostly XFCE and GNOME in the past, but I've heard good things about Kubuntu Lucid and really would like to take it for a spin. However, this computer has only a wireless connection, so I really need to get it working.
I have setup my wireless card via ndiswrapper and I can see that if I perform an iwconfig that the card is wlan0. I have attempted to connect with the router but I can't get any connection.I know the password is: ########## (10 digits long) but for the life of me I can't get it to work via command line.
I downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu yesterday (10.04 LTS) for the first time and it worked like a treat, with the Internet conencting immediately without any problems. However, this morning I turned on my laptop and despite seemingly connecting to the network, Ubuntu won't conenct to the Internet. It is also repeatedly asking for me to re-input the WEP Key despite it being correct and always automatically inputted.
I've been looking around for hours on the Internet to try and find a solution but to no avail, even though people do seem to experience similar problems.
I am unable to connect to my home wireless network when WEP 128 bit encryption (open system passphrase) is turned on however I can connect when I disable the encryption?
I would share my long awaited success with connecting my ubuntu laptop up to my universities (University of Western Sydney) wireless network. The rumors appeared true and they have finally implemented 802.11x authentication instead of that horrible java app netdirect. I am sure you've been cursing at its erratic stability. There is no linux documentation for airUWS-Lite nor anything more imformative than there windows/mac point and click steps found at [URL]. However with a few simple clicks you can have stable working connection.
When connecting make sure you have theses settings. Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP) #This is the settings that does not present itself correctly Anonymous Identity: leave blank PEAP Version: Automatic Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2 Username: <YOUR 8 DIGIT STUDENT NUMBER> Password: your regular password
Ubuntu 10.10 connects to a DSL modem without any problems - I mean I just plugged it in and it worked - GREAT I bought a wireless router so I could connect my netbook and now my Ubuntu machine which is simply using a cable from the wireless router now DOES NOT connect. I tried a windows machine on the wired connection from the wireless router and it connects without a problem. OF course if I remove the wireless router from the chain, i.e. simply connect directly to the modem it works straight away.
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.10 and everything seems to be working fine, but I can't seem to connect to my wireless network. I am able to see the wireless networks nearby, so I'm guessing that means the drivers are fine and the hardware is working. When I try to connect, I am seeing the wireless networks of my neighbors, but mine isn't showing. So I manually enter the information in and try to connect, but it doesn't seem to connect. I enter the WEP key and it attempts, then the WEP key screen pops up again, as if I entered the key incorrectly. I've tried many times and I'm 100% certain my key is correct. By the way, the chipset is: Ralink RT61 Which means it really should just work out of the box.
Only been using linux for about 2 weeks now. Yesterday my internet worked without a hitch now today all of a sudden it wont connect. I had the "Install problem! The configurataion defaults for gnome manager have not been installed correctly" so I deleted my music directory and now it boots fine, dont know if that might be part of the issue/ I dual boot win7 and i can get wireless on that partition but not ubuntu
So last night I decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 using the WUBI installer, everything went well and it installed, but there was one problem. I didn't have any wireless networking options, so I scavenged this forum using google and came across on how to fix it using System -> Adminstrator -> Additional Drivers. I reset my laptop(Dell Inspiron 14R N4010 I believe) and to my success, I was able to join my network. So I took out the cable(The wired connection has worked since fresh install) and it didn't work... I updated using Synaptic Package Manager and restarted, hoping it would work, but it didn't.
I've been trying to troubleshoot this myself for the past couple of days, but to no avail so I have come in search of help.
I have a PCI wireless card, it's a Broadcom device using the BCM4306 chipset. I'm running the b43 drivers which were installed using fwcutter.
At my last place the card worked perfectly. There it was connected to an unencrypted network. I've recently moved places and it just refuses to connect to the new network here. The router is set up with a 64-bit WEP key. In Ubuntu, network manager sees the access point and prompts my to enter the password but will not connect, instead continually asking for the login. I have tried using wicd instead of network manager, and that just throws up a "bad password" error.
Signal strength to the access point isn't great, around 50% usually, however the same card connects and works perfectly when I'm booted into Windows Vista. Unfortunately I can't do anything to change the router's configuration and using a cable is not possible.
I have ubuntu 11.04 installed. I have a D-link USB Wireless Adapter. Ubuntu detected it and it worked fine. I have a Beetel 450TC1 Router which broadcasts my internet connection. Ubuntu recognizes it, and keeps on trying to connect. It asks me for Authentication again and again.( Don't tell me to check the password again, it does work on everything else )And its not the router problem also, as I tried broadcasting through a laptop I have, Ubuntu again detected but couldn't connect and kept asking me for Authentication
I have a fairly new install of 10.04 on a Dell laptop (about a week). Everything was running well, connecting wirelessly to the interneet through my home router (WPA/WPA2). Today, for some reason, I lost my connection to the internet. The network manager tells me I'm connected to my router, but all the lines on the wifi indicator are gray and there is no internet access. I reinstalled the 2 sets of packets for my BCN4312 (bcmwl-kernel-source and b43-fwcutter ), but no change.
For several months I was using EDUP adapter with both my laptop that operated on Ubuntu 9.04 exclusively and a desktop that could also boot with XP. Soon after 9.10 was released I updated my laptop and was able to use the adapter to connect to the Net.Recently, I also updated the desktop but also made it exclusively a Linux machine. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get the wireless adapter to work again on the desktop. The OS recognizes the device as wlan0, and lsusb shows:Bus 003 Device 005: 0cde:0008 Z-Com Sitecom Wireless Network Adapter 100G+ WL -125The network manager recognises the availability of the wireless network and attempts to connect. After trying for a while it comes up with a dialog box "Wireless Network Authentication Required" and in response I enter the WPA password but with no success. The behaviour would indicate that I am entering the wrong password but I am not.I have checked it several times and compared with the password that works with the laptop.
