Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Keeps Disconnecting On 10.10?

Nov 8, 2010

I have always had trouble in the past getting wireless adapters and what not to start working on Ubuntu but with each 6-month upgrade most problems are fixed while new ones are made. Since Ubuntu 10.10 just came out I thought I'd give it a go and test it with my hardware.

Before 10.10 Ubuntu could not connect with my wireless device and I had to do many things with gedit and such to get it working. After I have upgraded to 10.10 Ubuntu now recognizes my wireless device and network and I can search the web...but wait here it comes.

Literally minutes after a fresh install and first connection to my network my wireless signal will drop and prompt me to reconnect. Of course the first thing comes to mind I reconnect which doesn't work so I unplug the device and replug it making it works...Two minutes later my connection drops again and so I so reboot, and if you really want to know what happens next just restart this paragraph.

Things you need to know Operating System - Ubuntu 10.10 64-Bit Wireless Adapter - Hawking HWUN3 Hi-Gain Wireless-N Network USB Adapter Router - Apple Airport (99% sure it has all updates)

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Disconnecting Every Few Minutes?

Jan 16, 2010

I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S325 (as it came from the factory, no mods), a Linksys WRT54G router, and Ubuntu 9.10/Karmic with all updates. I've had issues since I upgraded from 9.04/Jaunty to 9.10/Karmic. It did work for awhile (I think a few days), but then it suddenly just couldn't find our wireless network. I reformatted (with 9.10) thinking it had just been a bad install - now I can connect to our network, but it throws me off every two minutes. My roommate (Dell laptop, Vista) has no problems with the internet, and I've visited a friend (in another state) and used her wireless internet without issues (though I couldn't tell you which router they were using). I've gone into our router's settings (with both my laptop and my roommate's) to reset the router or change the security settings, but with no real progress.

Here is my ifconfig results:

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0f:b0:87:b3:80
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Disconnecting In 9.10x64

Feb 13, 2010

I recently did a clean install on my ASPIRE 5490G laptop with 9.10x64 and am having some odd problems with wireless.

The wireless will suddenly drop and ask me for re-authentication of the encryption key which I put in. Then it will ask me again. It will then refuse to connect to the router.

If I hit cancel then on the notification area the nm-applet will not have the router listed in the wireless networks .

If I kill the nm-applet and restart it with ALT-F2 and run nm-applet --sm-disable it still does not show the networks available.

I know it is not the router as my flatmate who I share with uses a laptop with Windows 7 and they have no problems.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working In 10.04 - Disconnecting Again And Again

Jun 1, 2010

I installed ubuntu 10.04 a few days ago. And I am running into a few problems wherein my wireless network disconnects and prompts me again for password.

Even when I re-enter it (correctly of course) I cannot reconnect and I have to do a system restart. After the restart, the wireless stays connected but disconnects again after a while and I find myself stuck in this loop.

I do not know if the following is any help, but below I am producing the output of lspci command and a few log messages that I think maybe related to this problem

Here is the output of lspci command

And here are some messages that show up quite often in daemon.log

Ubuntu Networking :: Constant Wireless Disconnecting With Intel Based Card

May 2, 2010

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell XPS M1530. I'm getting very frequent disconnects to my wireless network, despite good signal. I have wicd and nm-applet running side by side, wicd doesn't work by itself and nm-applet won't get a new IP after reassociating with the AP.

Wireless connection is steady in Windows 7, so I'm guessing it's a problem with the driver.

Ubuntu Networking :: Not Connecting To Wireless

Mar 28, 2010

I recently installed the latest version of Kubuntu in a dual boot system with Windows XP on a Dell laptop. The dell laptop has a broadcom wireless device, and I was able to set up the driver and get wireless working. Then I booted into windows XP to make a whole bunch of updates/driver installations, and when I booted back into Kubuntu it would not connect to the wireless network. I am pretty sure the device is still active, because it picks up on the wireless networks in the area. But KWallet does not open to ask for my password on booting. Something is not set right, but I can't tell what.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Connecting With Wired Or Wireless?

Apr 1, 2010

in short : installed 9.10 on a dell inspiron 600m which has a broadcom bcm4401 ethernet and an intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B mini PCI. At this point, i'm not too picky about which one works (meaning neither of them currently work). nm-tool seems to pick up on both : the broadcom (eth0) is using the b44 driver, State is unavailable; the intel (eth1) is using the ipw2100 driver, it's State is disconnected.

i have encryption turned off, and the wireless sees a number of AP's (including mine).

i'm jumping off the good ship m$ and determined to make this work!

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Router Connecting ?

Jun 21, 2010

I have a computer running Ubuntu, and a MacBook Pro. I need to buy a decently cheap wireless router that I can hook up to my Ubuntu so that it will send wifi signals and I can use the wifi to go online with my MacBook Pro. I was about to get one today, but remembered how Ubuntu is picky about working with things like that. I'm only going to be using it to get signals around the house which isn't that big at all.

So what would be the cheapest and decently efficient wireless routers that I can use which Ubuntu will cooperate with?

General :: Keeps Disconnecting From Wireless Network?

Sep 12, 2011

I'm running Arch Linux on an Acer laptop and my wirless connection doesn't stay up. After a while it disconnects, and when I try to reconnect I get stuck with a "Waiting for authorization" message. I have to retry several times before getting the connection stay up for few minutes. This happens with both networkmanager and wicd. The strange thing is that the iMac that sits next to the laptop connects fine, and when I use my laptop within the university wireless network it works normally.

EDIT: I've tried to connect manually following the steps

iwlist wlan0 scan
wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0

Ubuntu Networking :: HP Mini 1001tu Wireless Not Connecting Using 9.10

Over the internet, someone had a similar problem with his Dell notebook using a Karmic and said that Karmic has a bug that doesn't install the "Broadcom STA wireless Driver" and recommended a prerequisite wired internet connection then the following command line:

sudo apt-get update
sudo-get -reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source
Followed by a reboot which solves the problem.

I would like to try this out but the netbook only accepts a USB -router connection but my router doesn't have a USB port.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting To Wireless In Kubuntu Lucid?

May 14, 2010

I'm having trouble connecting to our home wireless network in Kubuntu Lucid. I was hoping someone here might be able to help. I can connect with no problem in Ubuntu and Xubuntu; I'm having difficulty in Kubuntu only. It might just be me being unfamiliar with the KDE network management app, I don't know.

1. I click on the network icon in the system tray, and choose "manage connections". I click on the "wireless" tab, and click "add".

2. I enter the name of our network in the SSID field (our router doesn't broadcast its SSID; however, if I click "scan" the neighbors' wireless networks do appear in the list) under the "wireless" tab, then I go the "wireless security" tab, and choose "WPA/WPA2 - personal" and enter the password. I click OK.

3. Now when I right-click on the network icon and choose "create network connection", the new connection for our network that I just made shows up in the list, but it has an icon showing a pen on paper instead of the broadcasting signal icon that appears next to the neighboring networks. It also says my connection is "insecure", even though I chose WPA and put in the password. (Neighbors' networks do say WPA, WEP,etc.)

4. I select my network connection that I created above, and click connect, and nothing happens. No connection is created. how the KDE network app works; I've used mostly XFCE and GNOME in the past, but I've heard good things about Kubuntu Lucid and really would like to take it for a spin. However, this computer has only a wireless connection, so I really need to get it working.
