Fedora :: Unable Get Wireless Working After Connecting To Eth0?

Aug 12, 2010

I installed F13 on an Acer laptop for a friend who is just beginning with Linux. This laptop has the dreaded Broadcom chipset and is using the b43 driver. When it was first installed, wireless was automatically detected and worked fine. However, as usual, there was about 200MB of updates after the install, and the wireless was downloading extremely slowly, so I connected eth0 just to complete the updates. Ever since, the wireless will not work. When the machine is booted, wireless is shown as disabled in Network Manager. I remembered that there was a wireless switch on the front of the laptop and switching it on allows me to check the enable wireless box, but wireless says device not ready.

ifconfig wlan0 up returns:

Code:

SIOCSFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill

I assumed this meant that the switch was in OFF position, but it is not. iwconfig shows the wireless is detected. It appears that there is a script for rf_kill somewhere in the filesystem that is keeping this from working.

Networking :: Unable To Locate Eth0 With Ifconfig In Fedora 12 ?

Apr 26, 2010

I've got a vmware install of Fedora 12 running as a server. This install has the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file configured with the proper info and the service has been restarted. When I run ifconfig I only get the loopback interface, when I run ifconfig -a I can get the eth0, but without the pre-configured ip address. When I enter ifconfig eth0 up I can activate the interface, but without the afore mentioned ip address. I need to be able to yum ssh, install it, and run it with rsa keys. Can do none of this without an interface obviously.

Ubuntu Networking :: Eth0 Isn't Connecting To Router?

Jul 18, 2010

I downloaded wubi, installed ubuntu, and booted it up. Everything went smooth, it finished installing with no problems. It restarts again and I login. Firefox opens.....server not found.

That brings you to where I am now. It says that eth0 is connect. I manually changed the ip address, the netmask and gateway. Still I have no luck.

route reads as follows:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface

Fedora Networking :: Dns Not Working Until Disable And Reenable Eth0?

Oct 18, 2009

I've got a 64 bit home server system that was upgraded from FC2 to 7, 9, now 11. I've now got a weird situation where dns inquiries will not work when I reboot the machine, until i restart eth0. When I reboot, I can open firefox on the machine, put in the IP of my dsl router, and look at it's settings just fine. All other internet uses, whether it's yum, squid, or etc. comes back with the usual name server not found messages. I've got thenetwork setup to use the named on this server, ( the web's a tad bit slower when I set it up to use ISP's windows nameservers, go figure).

Anyway, a few years ago I set up the machine to use the network service to bring theseinterfaces up. (I believe this was because the early versions on Networkmanger had some issues. In an attempt to fix this issue I reset Networkmanger start at startup, and reset up eth0 and 1 to be controlled by it.I then got namserver1=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX in resolve.conf at reboot..(yeah they were really X's, I'm not hiding an ip here) I tried going intonsswitch.conf, found the line hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dnsand changed it to:hosts:files dns mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return]No joy, I still have to do an ifdown eth0 and an ifup eth0 to get dns to work..

Fedora Networking :: Eth0 Suddenly Stopped Working On FC10

Aug 4, 2009

my eth0 suddenly stopped working on FC10. i have been using it the whole time, and now it refuses to even ping the gateway. dhclient is not receiving a dhcp offer and when i put in the information manually, it is not even able to ping the gateway. netstat -rn shows that the destination of the router is going nowhere.

i do not think it is the hardware/software, but rather maybe the provider? i am from central europe but just moved up to great britain and working at a friends place. i can connect the mac powerbook without a problem (it will get an ip with dhcp), but not the linux machine.it is a normal ethernet modem connection here. can it be, that it checks MAC addresses or even the computer names? the powerbook also has a really weired IP address: 77.102.xxxxx

i am not using network manager, but command line tools and have nm uninstalled. does anyone have a clue, what this could be about? i am not a newbie, but this is really puzzling me.....

Dec 22, 2010

(my goal after they see each other is to share files back and forth. and also to have one of them control the others with some type of remote desktop. but thats for another day.)

Fedora Networking :: Fedora Locks Up Connecting By Wireless To OpenWRT Router

Nov 16, 2009

I dual boot Windows/Fedora 11 on my Dell Latitude D830 laptop, which has an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card and I have just bought a Linksys WRT160NL wireless router. I am currently trying to set up OpenWRT linux on the router. Because of the nature of my problem I have also posted this on their forum.I am having trouble connecting to my OpenWRT install via Fedora. Things seem okay in Windows, but when I try to connect from linux my laptop locks up completely and I have to hard reboot. I previously have never had any trouble connecting to any other router with this install of Fedora.

Fedora Networking :: Connecting To Wireless Router ?

May 5, 2010

When fedora initially starts up, the network manager shows all the available wireless connections available to me. However, when I select my wireless connection, it will go through the loading process where it shows the two green dots and the circular moving blue streak, then it prompts me to put in the wpa password.

This is where the trouble starts...when i input my wpa password, it will proceed to attempt to connect to my network but it never succeeds in doing so--it will keep on asking me to input my wpa password. when i finally get sick of doing it over and over again, i just hit cancel instead of retrying to connect.

After i stop trying to connect, the network manager no longer shows all the available wireless networks--the list is completely empty, and i can find no way to get the list to show up again, with the exception of restarting my computer.

I am able to connect to the internet with a wired ethernet, but id like my wireless to work.

Fedora Networking :: CLI - Nmcli() - Connecting To New Wireless

Oct 31, 2010

I find it interesting that the only CLnetwork manager is nmcli(). Are there others you know and love?

I have been trying to use nmcli(), and I am having some difficulty.

When I run...

Code:

I get a great list of available wireless connections, but it seems to me I am not getting the 'right' information, or I do not know how to implement the information I am getting.

When I try to connect using the

Code:

It tells me, 'Unkown connection'.

So I wonder in the devices list is the SSID, in the single quotes, not the id the 'up' command requires? Or how do use the SSID? As far as the UUID, this option works for me, but I can only see the UUID if I had already once before connected to this connection. Is there any way to see the UUID of a new connection?

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Networks And Unable To Configure Network

Jul 27, 2010

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.

Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network

However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.

Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless - Connecting To Router Using Wep Key

Feb 15, 2010

I made some tests with a router without security and my internet connexion worked without any problem. But if I activated the wep security (or wpa it is the same behaviour) suse 11.1 won't connect in any way.

I used knetwork manager and traditional ifup method, both failed to connect.

I saw, using iwconfig that in both cases (wpa or wep) I was associated with the AP but dhclient won't work in any way, I was always in the APIPA...

I checked if there weren't any access control (mac address filtering, ...) and all the settings in the router were off to give me full access. Including the firewall set to off. The DHCP feature was on in both cases.

I noticed that the firewall must be on in suse 11.1 otherwise I couldn't have any connections even if I disabled wep or wpa...

Fedora Networking :: "bad Password" When Connecting To Wireless?

Feb 21, 2011

When I tried to get it to connect, I keep getting "bad password,' and I've entered the password the router uses. I'm using Fedora 13, 32 bit, and have to use ndiswrapper to get my receiver to work. AND (it's a big "and," I'm afraid) I'm using wicd. I have Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Fedora as operating systems. Ubuntu froze when I tried getting this to work! I have Linux Mint 10 on one computer, Mint Debian on another, and Mint LXDE on an ancient Thinkpad. All three versions of Mint connected without a problem! The Ubuntu fubar may have come from the ndiswrapper driver..who knows? It worked without a hitch for three months before it had a melt-down. Any way to do an end-run around the "bad password," as in maybe using the terminal instead of the GUI?

---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:22 AM ----------As a side note, I went with wicd because Network Manager seemed to drop the signal frequently, and I had to reboot to reconnect. Not a Fedora problem per-se, as that's a problem that I have with NM on every distro I've seen. But if it would solve the password problem by "turning off" wicd and re-enabling Network Manager, I can give that a shot, if there's a command to do that. I'm not able to get to the web on this computer right now, but Network Manager was disabled from the command line, and I assume it could be re-enabled just as easily.
