Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless No Longer Connecting And Repeatedly Asking For WEP Key

Jul 28, 2010

I downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu yesterday (10.04 LTS) for the first time and it worked like a treat, with the Internet conencting immediately without any problems. However, this morning I turned on my laptop and despite seemingly connecting to the network, Ubuntu won't conenct to the Internet. It is also repeatedly asking for me to re-input the WEP Key despite it being correct and always automatically inputted.

Machine:
Quote:
Advent 8117
Intel Core Duo T2080 1.73GHZ
1GB RAM
RaLink RT7

I've been looking around for hours on the Internet to try and find a solution but to no avail, even though people do seem to experience similar problems.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting To Network Repeatedly Asking For Security Password?

Apr 9, 2010

I installed Ubuntu on an old desktop last night and am having some problems with my wireless connection.I've searched around a bit and tried a few solutions but nothing seems to be working so hopefully someone can help. I'm using a Netgear WG111v3 wireless USB adapter and am attempting to connect to a Sky Broadband modem, the connection shows up in the list of avaliable networks after clicking on the network symbol and after attempting to connect for a while it then asks for the WPA password.

I enter the password and then this repeats over and over again continuously asking for the password and me continuously entering it. I know the password is correct as I'm using it on my laptop and other home computer right now.I've tried connecting to a hidden wireless network and inserting the network name and password as some have suggested and I've also tried adding the details from my router into the connection; so that I have manually entered the information rather than automatically finding it, this also hasn't worked.I should probably add that earlier today I seemingly randomly got connected and then managed to run some updates but since then it has disconnected and the same problem is repeating over and over. Sorry if thats quite a long explanation but I thought I'd try and make it as clear as possible,

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - Wireless Asking For WPA Key Repeatedly

Mar 16, 2010

I'm a new Ubuntu user! I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10, straight from the homepage. All went fine, everything appears to be running smoothly.. but I can't get the wireless working! All it does is ask for the WPA/WPA2-Personal key repeatedly. I know I've got the code right, as I've typed it whilst "Show Characters" is on multiple times. Every time I enter it, the networking icon looks as though it's working, and then after a moment it'll ask me again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Repeatedly Drops After 10.10 Upgrade - Broadcom 4309

Oct 23, 2010

My wireless connection ran without issue when I ran Ubuntu 9.x on a windows dual boot loader. Liking Ubuntu, I wiped the system and installed a 10.10 with no dual boot. After the upgrade, my wireless connection is no longer reliable.

Wireless seems to stay connected when traffic volumes are low. As soon as any significant traffic is generated such as a download, torrent or video stream, the network disconnects. Disabling and re-enabling the connection at the GUI recovers the connection. Disconnect can be generated on demand.

If I can somehow roll back to the 9.x network setup I was running. Unclear to me (n00b) if the windows dual boot was impacting that setup or not.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intermittent Internet On Wireless/wifi - 10.10 Disconnects Repeatedly?

Dec 31, 2010

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 because I was facing internet problems with previous Ubuntu 9.04 after I upgraded it with downloaded software. And now, 10.10 connects to wireless, but shows web-page some-times and repeatedly disconnects. Earlier it wasn't reaching Internet at all. Some of the topics here helped a lot. But this intermittent internet seems not going anywhere. Wired Internet connects easily though.

I've tried :-

-disabling ipv6..... first in Firefox, then in Kernel also
-Setting DNS.....System> Preferences> Network Connections
-setting static Ip

The system still gives trouble.

My system is Asus UL20A.
Wireless:-Atheros AR9285

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Repeatedly Stops Working On HP Pavilion/Intel 4965AG/Karmic

Feb 9, 2010

My wireless LAN connection on this machine occasionally stops working. The network traffic bar shows periodic very small transmissions but the failure of all network dependent applications (Firefox, package manager, etc.) indicates to me that the machine is no longer talking to the net. I can fix it by reselecting my home network in nm-applet from the drop-down list. This causes the machine to disconect, reconnect and all is well for some random period of time thereafter. Here's some data:I'm running an HP Pavillion laptop.

Code:

~$ lspci | grep Wireless
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)

Code:

~$ lsmod | grep iwl
iwlagn 124768 0
iwlcore 134820 1 iwlagn
mac80211 243496 2 iwlagn,iwlcore

[code]....

I don't know if this is related or not, but a couple of months ago I unsuccessfully attempted to share a hotel's wired Internet connection over my wireless card. I may have hosed some settings or it could be unrelated. The "unknown interface" portion of the restart attempt is interesting but I don't know enough to fix it.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Longer Connecting To Router?

Oct 27, 2010

When I start Ubuntu at work it automatically connects to the router every time. At home the router signal is quite weak but manually connecting via NetworkManager Applet 0.8 was successful for a week or so. In the past week, however, although the router appears in the list in Network Manager, it has stopped working and is unable to connect. Nothing has changed with the router or hardware in that time.

This is a new laptop which had Windows 7 pre-installed. Windows 7 connects to the home router successfully every time. I really don't want to use Windows 7 but until I can get this fixed I have no choice.

I don't know if it's relevant, but once I tried deleting the AUTO Home connection from Network Manager and was then able to connect on the next attempt, but this has not worked since.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Wireless No Longer Recognizes Wireless Networks?

Jan 11, 2010

I've been running Karmic since it was officially released on my Dell Studio 17 (specs are in my signature) with a Broadcom wireless half mini wireless card.hen I installed Karmic, it gave me the option to install proprietary drivers for my video card as well as 2 Broadcom drivers, STA and one of the BC43 drivers. I installed all of these, and the only problems I had were with the audio. I spent a few days troubleshooting the audio and finally got PulseAudio set up for my card.

Almost 3 months later, I was making use of my wireless network at home, as I had done plenty of times over the previous 3 months, when I closed the lid (thus putting the computer into sleep mode) and took it to the hospital to stay with my fianc饠after her surgery. When I got to the hospital, I couldn't get their network to show up. Network Manager didn't even recognize the network. We had also brought my fianc饧s laptop (same machine with a slightly less powerful CPU and only 4 GB of RAM). She is running Windows 7, which detected the hospital's network with no problems. After trying to ad-hoc the hospital network with no success, I finally just gave up and played Sudoku and toyed with some graphics stuff in GIMP until we came home. Upon returning home, however, I was shocked that my card didn't even detect our home network.

I have been unsuccessful for the past 3 days in getting Network Manager to identify our wireless network. The wired network connects without issue and I am able to make use of a USB Belkin adapter, which identifies all 7 of the various wireless networks in my neighborhood, including our home network. While I would be able to simply carry my Belkin adapter with me in order to make use of wireless networks, I would really like to solve this problem with my Broadcom adapter. I've gone through the Ubuntu Wireless Network Troubleshooting guide, but I still can't get it to workOutput of lshw -C network:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless No Longer Enabled

Feb 22, 2011

About two days ago was when I was last able to connect wirelessly. I cannot recall a change I made to the system that would have caused this problem. Items to consider:

1. Under Network Manager, I am unable to click "Wireless Networks"
2. I ran the following code under in the terminal (sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/interfaces; cat /etc/lsb-release; lspci -nn; lsusb; sudo lshw -short; uname -a; dmesg | egrep 'acx|at76|ath|b43|bcm|CX|eth|ipw|irmware|isl|lbtf|orinoco|ndiswrapper|NPE|ound|p54|prism|rtl|rt2|rt3|rt6|rt7|usb|witch|wl'; iwconfig; cat /etc/modprobe.d/* | egrep 'acx|at76|ath|b43|bcm|CX|eth|ipw|irmware|isl|lbtf|orinoco|ndiswrapper|NPE|p54|prism|rtl|rt2|rt3|rt6|rt7|witch|wl'; sudo hwinfo --netcard ; cat /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state; sudo lsmod) and proceeded to run enter BIOS where I enabled the Network Driver.

3. I am still unable to get the "Wireless Networks" to even be selectable under the Network Manager
4. When I return to BIOS, the computer shuts down immediately.
5. The start-up menu won't allow me access.
6. I have an HP G60-445DX notebook and an MCP77 Ethernet..

Ubuntu Networking :: Not Connecting To Wireless

Mar 28, 2010

I recently installed the latest version of Kubuntu in a dual boot system with Windows XP on a Dell laptop. The dell laptop has a broadcom wireless device, and I was able to set up the driver and get wireless working. Then I booted into windows XP to make a whole bunch of updates/driver installations, and when I booted back into Kubuntu it would not connect to the wireless network. I am pretty sure the device is still active, because it picks up on the wireless networks in the area. But KWallet does not open to ask for my password on booting. Something is not set right, but I can't tell what.

10.04 was connecting to wireless on boot up without a problem. After updating, it can no longer do it. I have to click on the wireless icon (which has an exclamation mark through it) and connect to hidden. I can then choose my wireless profile and am asked for my elevated privileges password. Once supplied, the connection is made.I presume the encryption password is 'locked' now at boot.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Connecting With Wired Or Wireless?

Apr 1, 2010

in short : installed 9.10 on a dell inspiron 600m which has a broadcom bcm4401 ethernet and an intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B mini PCI. At this point, i'm not too picky about which one works (meaning neither of them currently work). nm-tool seems to pick up on both : the broadcom (eth0) is using the b44 driver, State is unavailable; the intel (eth1) is using the ipw2100 driver, it's State is disconnected.

i have encryption turned off, and the wireless sees a number of AP's (including mine).

i'm jumping off the good ship m$ and determined to make this work!

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Router Connecting ?

Jun 21, 2010

I have a computer running Ubuntu, and a MacBook Pro. I need to buy a decently cheap wireless router that I can hook up to my Ubuntu so that it will send wifi signals and I can use the wifi to go online with my MacBook Pro. I was about to get one today, but remembered how Ubuntu is picky about working with things like that. I'm only going to be using it to get signals around the house which isn't that big at all.

So what would be the cheapest and decently efficient wireless routers that I can use which Ubuntu will cooperate with?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Strange WiFi Behavior Breaks Connection Repeatedly

May 30, 2011

I have recently upgraded to 11.4 and also had to renew an AP (HP ProCurve 10ag). This was several years old but replaced an identical model which had been working well until recently. I thought it would be appropriate to flash newer firmware as the device four releases behind the times. The access point serves partner's XP laptop and my openSUSE 11.4 laptop and after flashing the firmware both machines would make a connection and then break and remake, to the extent that the openSUSE machine became unusable. I thought it was an encryption problem and spent hours changing the AP and Client setups to no avail

After reading a thread here I checked out dmesg and this is what I found:-
[78.639247] wlan0: authenticate with 00:1d:b3:4b:ae:14 (try 1)
[78.640804] wlan0: authenticated

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network No Longer Working On Mobile / What To Do?

Aug 19, 2010

It still works fine if I boot into "good old" Windows. I must say I am SOOO disapointed with the Network Manager in Ubuntu which was great until 10.4 and has been crap ever since. I have had so many problems with my Vodafone USB and had to find an alternative method of getting it to work. Now the last straw is that my wireless LAN card is not getting recognised on startup so I have not connectivity when at home. (USb via Vodafone is no good in my area). I am typing this via an old Windows PC because my Ubuntu just does not work anymore. I have not installed anything new so what has happened - or how can I get it to work again.
I was completely sold on Ubuntu but am now considering reverting to Windows. It would be worth paying for an operating system that actually works, even if I have all the other hassles as well. A year ago Ubuntu was great - it all worked ! Not any more how can all that good work have gone down the pan - I can't understand how anyone could let all these nertwork problems occur - it isn't just me - read the threads - it's widespread.
