I have succesfully attached some networkdrives (Windowsshares actually) to Nautilus. It's possible to access these with Nautilus and the Open File Dialog of Open Office.
However .. The "Save To" in Google Chrome and "Open File" in Notecase are not showing these networkdrives. Is this a different browser? Is there somewhere somehow a setting to see the drives?

Why so? I am selecting file from ("/home/lx/myDocuments/tech/excel/smslist.xls"), but the warning says that [failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/xlr/xlr2.php on line 33]. A different directory than I selected.
I suspect this is a Gnome 3 problem and not a Fedora problem, but I have no way to separate the two here. I cannot upload an image from my computer to Weebly or to Google Plus, but strangely enough, I can upload one to Picasa. The sequence of actions goes something like this:
1. Open Weebly editing interface, add a picture element, click on the element to edit/add a picture. It then gives you a choice: from your local computer, from the web, etc.
2. Click on 'from local computer' and my computer opens the Open File Dialog Window.I am guessing that is its name, it is the same window you get when opening a file in any other application, like Gedit or LibreOffice.
3. Navigate to the image I want to upload and double click on it or select 'Open'.
4. Nothing happens.
I am able to upload images from my laptop, running Linux Mint 11 with Gnome 2.
It sounds to me like the Open File Window is not passing on the necessary information to the browser. I have no idea why it works in Picasa and not in Google+ or Weebly.
I don't really expect anyone to have a solution just yet, but I wanted to mention it somewhere, and I didn't see any Gnome.org forums. On the other hand, if someone does have a solution, great.
This is by no means a knock on Gnome 3, it is fine with me and I Iike it a lot more than I thought I would.
On both my 32-bit laptop (openSUSE 11.3) and my 64-bit desktop (openSUSE 11.2) I have been unable to find out how to prevent seeing all the "hidden files" when opening files in many applications, including (for example) GIMP, Xournal, OpenOffice, gedit.In the Control Centre "File management" options "Show hidden and backup files" is NOT checked in "File Management Preferences.

I'm working in a project where I have to plug and unplug USB drives many times, and Nautilus opening every time is really annoying. I tried to use gconf-edit and set the keys apps>nautilus>preferences>media_automount and media_automount_open to false, but it didn't work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the kde realm, with the dolphin file browser, I can open a terminal in whatever folder is in the gui by using the shift and f4 keys. I'd like to be able to accomplish the same in gnome with the nautilus file browser but can't figure out how to do same. So far I have to open a terminal and then cd to the desired folder. Or do I have to use some other file browser and which one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have recently upgraded to ubuntu 11.04 64bit from 10.04 and 10.10 in a networked office in which our home directories are mounted on a server raid array. Ubuntu considers that the home directory is a local drive rather than on a networkWe have noticed that file preview are very very slow in 11.04 for pdf's and pictures in nautilus, causing a lag of around 10 seconds for each file. This can cause a problem for folders which hold multiple files which can be previewed. Preview worked fine in previous versions of ubuntu on the same machine, with the same network setup. Previewing of actual local files works faster, but is slower on 11.04, than previous versions.
Both the 10.10 and 11.04 systems are up to date with available updates (11.04 - 2.32.2.1 and 2.30.1 on ubuntu 10)Obviously, there is a work around for this problem - turn off preview. But, it would be nice to turn it on as its a useful feature.
So I have the strange task of trying to make something like I said above work in Lubuntu 10.04. But every time I do, the share is not accessible because none of the important permissions (other) can be set because its, well, NTFS in linux. And I know of no way to fix it.Is there an easy way, preferably with Nautilus since the person I am setting this up for isn't a computer expert, to setup this share so thats its accessible and writable by other computers on the network?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running 64 bit Lucid on a HTPC that is networked with a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Up until this morning, sharing media between these two worked fine. When I attempted to connect through Rhythmbox to play music, the computer couldn't find the files. I attempted to access the network through Nautilus and it was unable to mount the location. So I tried the Create Launcher command and created a link of the network on the desktop. I was prompted to login and it worked perfectly This has happened once before and the only way to fix it was to reinstall Ubuntu.I would very much like to avoid that if possible as the system is setup perfectly.
I wouldn't bother with the issue if it didn't prevent me from adding my music files to Rhythmbox. I have run findsmb as well as smbtree. Smbtree returned nothing and findsmb had a dotted line with nothing underneath. Nothing has been removed. I did install security updates this morning, but since it has happened before, I am more inclined to thing it is a bug or conflict somewhere.

you go to open/save a file, the box comes up - and i'f im looking for a picture theres no thumbnail view?
i have hundreds of pictures in some folders and theres no way to tell which is which i have to click each one for the preview

My system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.
When I right click a file or folder in the Nautilus file manager (Gnome3 on F15) and choose "Properties", I no longer get a Properties dialog. Instead, Nautilus just sits there, frozen.I tried running it from a terminal, and this is the output it generated:

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm travelling currently so the last network i connected successfully to was my home wpa-psk network. I hadn't tried anything until i got to my accommodation that is an open network (that I'm on now on the Win7 partition on my laptop).
The network (and a similar archetypical 'linksys' open network, aswell as some protected local networks are correctly displayed in network-manager and upon selection, it happily spins around to its hearts content for a while before saying 'no chance boy'.
/var/log/syslog spills out the usual combination of wpa_supplicant and kernel messages, the most interesting of are that the kernel deauthentication reason 6 response. 6 apparently means class2FrameFromNonAuthStation...Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated.
Anyone seen anything like this? I've already tried going closer to the router to no avail. I don't remember seeing this any other time I've connected to a open AP, even if that AP is far away. (Signal strength for this AP is good, kismet says its around -57dBm, well above the threshold of -80dBm, and I've tried all the suggestions from the 'Related Questions' code...
I've been trying out Nautilus-actions (Gnome 2.28.4), but have been unable to import most config files from [url].
When I attempt to import an action, it complains:

So far, the only one that has worked for me is "Move to custom folder" [url].
I used unetbootin to put ubuntu 10.10 on a 2 gb usb key. I started up using the "try before installing" option and when I try to install in full it says I do not have 2.5 free gb's for the install. So I open up gparted only to find that only drive there is my 2bg usb key and I have no idea how to find my main hard drive.
I tried searching and tried the following; I checked the sata setting in the boot menu and it is IDE. The computer has also never been used in a raid setup.
I recently installed Fedora 13. I formatted drives and did a clean install. Since the install, I cannot see my cd drive in the file system menu. I can see it in the BIOS and can boot from it, but cannot see any cd put in after the fedora boot. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I assume it needs mounted or something like that,

In my user manager, I don't know wich group I have to add to this simple user (it's me) so I am allowed to manage the usb key.
I'm using OpenSUSE 11.4 and the GNOME 3 packages in the GNOME:STABLE repository. I maintain an application and have a remote Mercurial repo hosted at BitBucket, which requires SSH to do any push/pull operation.
My passphrase is just that -- a phrase, not a word -- and it's too long to type accurately without seeing it. I cut and paste it from a web page. When I'm asked by a console app for the passphrase, I can do that. The GNOME SSH passphrase dialog does not allow pasting or dropping, so I can either try to type it or hit cancel. Normally, ssh-add provided a way around this; it would ask you for the phrase on the console, and I could paste it.
This doesn't work in GNOME 3. ssh-add still asks me for the passphrase, but when I try any operation that requires the key, the dialog pops up again. How is it possible to get ssh-add to work, or (preferably) get rid of the dialog?
New to 10.04, not to Ubuntu. Fresh install of 10.04, recommended proprietary nVidia driver installed because text rendering in Firefox is terribly with the 'standard' non-proprietary driver.Also new to Vodafone / Huawei modems. Optimistically, I recently bought a Vodafone K3765 modem as backup for my standard internet connection. I eventually got that to work after installing the USB mode switcher. So no it works out-of-the-box experience here Problem:The network manager (I assume that is what it is called; little antenna with signal strength indicator is not visible in the panel (right top). It is there but it's only one pixel or so wide (at occasion a one pixel wide vertical line occurs at the position where it is supposed to be). So when I want to connect I have to click a number of times in the panel till I hit it and the menu shows. Once it is visible, it will stay visible till the user logs off.
