you go to open/save a file, the box comes up - and i'f im looking for a picture theres no thumbnail view?
i have hundreds of pictures in some folders and theres no way to tell which is which i have to click each one for the preview
is there nothing for this in the software center?
I am a total novice to Ubuntu OS. I am running 10.10 on a Eee PC 4g.
Some dialog boxes are too big for my monitor. I have tried re-sizing using mouse's middle button but there seems to be a limit to the amount you can reduce, which leaves them still too big??
I have hidden both top/bottom bars.
I am prevented from setting up a wireless connection. 1. Because the 'Editing Wirelss Connection' box/window is too long to be able to click apply?? 2.Because all the tuts I find are for older versions and don't seem to apply now?
I starting to think maybe Ubuntu is not for me, I am not a programmer?
I can't seem to run Evolution. Whenever I try to open it, I get a box asking for the password for my email account as well as a box asking whether I want Evolution to be the default mail client. The answer in either box is not acknowledged, and the only was I can figure out to close it is to "killall evolution". I'm having a hard time searching for bug reports--nothing seems to come up with the terms that I have used.
How can I reset this? I kind of want to try out the Contacts manager feature and the MS Exchange compatibility, but I use Thunderbird for my main email and I don't want Evolution to be the default. Incidentally I'm actually using Fedora 13 but I imagine most of the commands I might need are the same.
If I was to make any changes or download anything I have to switch to gnome, because in fluxbox the menu dialog boxes are not appearing.
I'm assuming they are coming up because if it's a dialog asking for my user password the window will unfocus and I can not click on it but no dialog box pops up!
I have a printed PDF Document which is comprised of Text, Lines, Boxes and so forth. I need to edit this document. I have scanned using varying forms of OCR software, the text reproduces fine, this I can edit - fine , but I cannot seem to save and reproduce the lines and boxes which is equally important. I should say that this PDF doc is also available on file on my USB stick

It created a "bkl-thumbnail" home dir and has been caching image thumbnails.
Any way to keep it from doing that? Or find out why it's doing it?
How do I open an app from a dialog box? Eg the download db in FF in which you have options to Open or Save. I want to be able to navigate to a folder containing app folders which I can then open to find an icon to double click so as to launch an app. Much like in Windows navigating to Program files (I think it is called). How do you do this in Linux?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI suspect this is a Gnome 3 problem and not a Fedora problem, but I have no way to separate the two here. I cannot upload an image from my computer to Weebly or to Google Plus, but strangely enough, I can upload one to Picasa. The sequence of actions goes something like this:
1. Open Weebly editing interface, add a picture element, click on the element to edit/add a picture. It then gives you a choice: from your local computer, from the web, etc.
2. Click on 'from local computer' and my computer opens the Open File Dialog Window.I am guessing that is its name, it is the same window you get when opening a file in any other application, like Gedit or LibreOffice.
3. Navigate to the image I want to upload and double click on it or select 'Open'.
4. Nothing happens.
I am able to upload images from my laptop, running Linux Mint 11 with Gnome 2.
It sounds to me like the Open File Window is not passing on the necessary information to the browser. I have no idea why it works in Picasa and not in Google+ or Weebly.
I don't really expect anyone to have a solution just yet, but I wanted to mention it somewhere, and I didn't see any Gnome.org forums. On the other hand, if someone does have a solution, great.
This is by no means a knock on Gnome 3, it is fine with me and I Iike it a lot more than I thought I would.

Like, if you were to open GIMP go to file--> open--> it would give you a gui to find the file that you're looking for. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have succesfully attached some networkdrives (Windowsshares actually) to Nautilus. It's possible to access these with Nautilus and the Open File Dialog of Open Office.
However .. The "Save To" in Google Chrome and "Open File" in Notecase are not showing these networkdrives. Is this a different browser? Is there somewhere somehow a setting to see the drives?
I am giving 10.04RC a try instead of Windows 7, so far so good. I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". Is this a bug in Ubuntu or Open Office? Is there an update/fix?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the latest Openoffice.org from Openoffice website on an old 8.04 install. I downloaded the 64 bit .deb version for Ubuntu. All went well. OO3.3 runs well. My question is can you use the Ubuntu Open and Save dialogs? The one where you have drives on the left side. All that comes up with this version is a basic Open or Save dialog. The OO that comes with Ubuntu has these menus. Is there anyway to get these with Openoffice downloaded from the OO website?

Then I click on a directory and I have 2 little white spots circling one another, OO's way of saying "wait". After a while the contents of directory I chose is displayed. Going to the next (sub) directory again takes a long time.Only OO is doing this, when I save from other programs going to the directory where I want to save the stuff takes no time at all. The subdirectories are displayed immediately after I click on the parent directory.

Why so? I am selecting file from ("/home/lx/myDocuments/tech/excel/smslist.xls"), but the warning says that [failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/xlr/xlr2.php on line 33]. A different directory than I selected.
When I download a file, lets say text file I want it to open straight away in iceweseal.So in the "open With" dialog box if I choose iceweseal it is not opening the file in it. It just downloads the text file.

Currently the Web Server is running, however I cannot open the filesystem to explore files and view. I am going to do a fresh install this weekend and upgrade system. I have two questions I hope this forum will help with. (Installing new disk and entire server)
1). Can someone tell me how I could copy the http.config file so that I can view my settings from terminal (This took me forever to get right for my environment to get shtml and cgi files to run correctly and I don't wish to lose). I am running Fedora 8, I'm also not sure of the location. (I'm fairly new to linux and not great with the terminal, however that is the only access working.) It would be great if someone added the terminal commands. If I can copy them I could email to my email address.
2). In the past when I have copied web files (web sites) over to the www directory the permission would be incorrect. Is it possible to write some of the web sites to CD (Disk burner is working) and then copy to the new system with permissions correct? Would you give a little how to all web sites are in the www directy. I think that is etc/www/"webdomain name" One thing I might add is all drives will fail it is just when...

Only, upon installing acroread, the site/file is then visible.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a big problem on a F10 (i386) box. I work with KDE 4.3.1. The open and save dialogue of gtk(Gnome) crashes in many applications. It works in audacity. It crashes in gimp, firefox, thunderbird, xsane and gtkpod. The is alleyways a "Segmentation fault" in the console output. See below. I all ready reinstalled all gtk-packages.
