So, I was just importing some images to F-Spot, when it suddenly crashed.
Now, when I try starting it, it flashes with some error that I can't read. It appears and disappears very quickly.
Here's the output from the terminal code...

I have succesfully attached some networkdrives (Windowsshares actually) to Nautilus. It's possible to access these with Nautilus and the Open File Dialog of Open Office.
However .. The "Save To" in Google Chrome and "Open File" in Notecase are not showing these networkdrives. Is this a different browser? Is there somewhere somehow a setting to see the drives?

Because of facebooks new photo uploading java thing that wont install I am looking into other alternatives for uploading pictures to facebook from my UNR 9.10 netbook. I've found that F-spot can do this but.. When I log into facebook through f-spot, it starts to log in... than just freezes while its loading and the loading bar says:
Session established, fetching friend details...
Does anyone know if you can actually upload to facebook with f-spot? Or why f-spot freezes at this point?
Here's a screenshot of where it stops loading at.. I leave it for like 10-15 minutes and still nothing happens.

I would like to get f-spot to create e-mails with reduced versions of photos and find that it almost works:
- f-spot opens up thunderbird
- a reduced resolution of the photo is created in /tmp
but it fails to attach to the e-mail. I have googled this and have checked settings in with gconf-editor and made sure that thunderbird is the default e-mail and that delete_timeout_seconds is set high but this does not seems to .
Does anyone out there have any other idea what might be causing the problem? Once I get this working then it will be an extremely comfortable way to send correctly-sized photos.

I was using a basic web cam, these are the specs on it equipped with an SD Drive and in order to see the contents of the SD drive, I would just have to switch the camera to MSDC in order for openSUSE 11.4 to load the SD drive on the camera. Well, for whatever reason, it stopped working! Just want to know if I did something wrong. This is the spec of the camera from the USB app.

I just installed Banshee v1.80 on Ubuntu 10.10 and was looking to import my music from my external HD. I pluged the HD in and copied all of the music in it to my music folder, (ALL 2,604 SONGS).I then went into banshee and set the folder for my music library to be /home/matt/Music, where i put THE 2,604 SONGS.Banshee started to scan the songs, all the way up through THE 2,604th. After it was finished i navigated to all music in the banshee side pane and there was only 394.
After some research i found that this was because only 394 of the songs actually had .mp3 or a similar extension at the end of the file name.I've spent the past hour trying to figure out how to either append the appropriate extension to all the files, or how to get banshee to see the files without any extension, to no avail.

I've just upgraded to Kubuntu 10.10 recently, and everything's working well, except that the screen seems to display less colors than it used to. It's very noticeable when looking at smooth gradients, since there are no smooth gradients anymore.
I'm using a laptop with a Radeon HD 5650 video card. The drivers seem to be working well, since I can run a 3D game like Nexuiz without any problems. The lack of colors isn't even very noticeable when playing games, but I can see it clearly in KDE... for example, the window background gradient isn't really a gradient now, just a few different shades of gray next to each other.I've looked around in KDE display settings and ATI settings, but there's absolutely nothing about the number of displayed colors there.

So, I've to machines running Ubuntu 10.10. One of them (a htpc) shares its local pulseaudio sinks, and I want the other (a laptop) to direct its audio to it.
So, on the htpc, I've ticked "Enable network access to local sound devices" in paprefs. On the laptop, I've ticked "Make discoverable PulseAudio network sound devices available locally".
The result is that, in padevchooser and pabrowser, the laptop sees the remote sinks. However in pavucontrol they are not visible. If I set one of the remote sinks as default in padevchooser, local applications (tried totem, vlc and spotify) cannot play audio.

I have a laptop running Debian stable. I have used xfce for a long time, but in an attempt to get away from needing to haul a mouse everywhere, I decided to migrate to xmonad (raw, with no DE), a tiling window manager that is extremely keyboard-friendly. I've also switched to conkeror (not konqueror, mind you), a very keyboard-friendly firefox-based browser. I have completely eliminated my need for a mouse on this laptop and have even disabled the touchpad by blacklisting the psmouse driver. There is still an annoying visible cursor sitting in the middle of the screen upon starting X. Is there anyway to (probably in the X config files) disable the visible cursor, or if not, have its default starting location be the bottom right corner (where it's least visible)?

Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10. When you insert DVD with UDF file system, Nautilus is failed to mount it and show its content.
[URL]
Workaround: to support UDF and ISO in the same time, and auto mount in Nautilus:
Code:
sudo mkdir /media/cdrom0
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/fstab
add to the end of file:
Code:
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 users,noauto,uid=0,gid=46,mode=0777,dmode=0777,nosuid,noexec 0 0
Restart PC or
Code:
mount /dev/scd0

so i'm having an issue when I'm plugging in my Canon 450D. I plug it in, the red activity light blinks and "Busy" is displayed on the LCD screen, but after about 30 seconds, it disappears, and all the while, it doesn't get mounted by Nautilus. I've checked Nautilus' media preferences, and verified this behaviour when set to "Auto mount" or "Ask me what to do". I assumed that it just meant that maybe it wasn't being detected by my laptop, but if I open Shotwell, it appears in the device pane to the left, but again, only for 30 seconds. Here's a shot of my message log:
Quote:
Apr 9 20:20:12 wegonix kernel: [ 4883.781092] usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
Apr 9 20:20:41 wegonix kernel: [ 4912.775528] usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 11
As you can see, my system sees it, but no application - other than Shotwell - sees this and i guess it consequently times out. I've yet to see whether any other USB drive does this, and i'll try my iphone in a bit. This used to work about 2 weeks ago...

Is it possible to change my current nautilus window to have sudo capabilities,? e.g. to delete locked files. It may be lazy but if it takes a lot of navigation then it would be handy to somehow activate sudo from the open window without the terminal command (gksudo nautilus) which always begins at root.

What do I have to do (i.e. which package do I have to install) to activate the 'Audio' tab in Nautilus? With Debian Lenny, as with Fedora Goddard, it is possible to see ID3 tags when right-clicking on a audio file in Nautilus, but oddly this feature is gone with a fresh Debian Squeeze installation. However, it is still possible to view EXIF informations when right-clicking an image file.

I'm trying to get the f-spot screensaver working under KDE. I found the f-spot-screensaver executable in usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/f-spot-screensaver, and the executable works just fine under KDE when run from the command line. I also found a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/screensavers/f-spot-screensaver.desktop.
I also installed xscreensavers, and they all seem to work just fine, but I can't figure out how to make the f-spot version show up in control panel.

Or I go to Applications/Graphics/F-SpotPhotoManager the same thing happens: small window, big window, gone.

I have my data on an NTFS drive. When I try to import pictures from this drive, I only get an option for the drive. That is, I cannot choose a sub-folder from which to import. I understand I can tell F-Spot to use sub-folders, but I have many sub-folders with pictures, and I do not want all of them in F-Spot. Is there any way to import a single folder with F-Spot?
I have also tried drag and drop, but I have a hard time getting that to work as well.

I just noticed that after upgrading to 10.04 Lucid Desktop, nautilus no longer plays MP3 files on mouse-over. It does recognize the file as a music file as it displays the music note icon in the comic balloon next to the music note file icon when the mouse is positioned over an MP3 file, however no sound is played. If I double-click the MP3 file, totem is invoked and plays the MP3 file just fine.

But whatever image I try (some PNG or even SVG files) I can't get them to be displayed. It seems there is a very special format, size, type to match the Gnome/GTK+/Nautilus icon requirements...

Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2qdsyll.jpg
I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.
By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.
I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.

I'm a user of Kicad, a schematic/printed circuit design suite. Kicad uses the extension '.mod' for its component module library files. When I view these files in Nautilus, (or one of my other file managers), they are displayed with a music note, and the file type is shown as 'Amiga SoundTracker audio'. I've never had such a file on any of my computers, and I'm fairly certain I never will. However, I have lots of Kicad module files on several computers. How can I make Nautilus report the correct filetype, or at least report an unknown filetype so my PCB libraries don't look like music files?
Here's what I've tried so far. I searched my whole system for files containing the string 'Amiga SoundTracker'. The only files that came up were three XML files: freedesktop.org.xml, mime.xml, and x-mod.xml.In each of these files I found one line that referred to both the extension '.mod' and the phrase 'Amiga AoundTracker'. (Also, in each case the line of code was the only one in its file that referred to the extension '.mod'). I commented out only this line in each of the three files, saved, and re-booted. After re-boot I confirmed that my changes to the files had persisted, yet my file managers still report my library files as 'Amiga SoundTracker'.Can I correct these filetypes, or am I out of luck?

I'm running a Debian squeeze system on AMD64, and with recent aptitude safe-upgrade the automounting of gnome/nautilus broke. Now if you click on a usbdrive it give this error: "Unable to mount 'volumelabel' Not Authorized".Previous it automatically mounted it, making/removing mount points as needed in /media, or you could mount by clicking on the drive icon in nautilus. (It varied a bit with package updates, but i didn't worry too much)Anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? I'm lost where to start, and systems nautilus or gnome-volume-manager use to mount things.
