Ubuntu :: Nautilus Actions - This XML File Is Not A Valid Nautilus-actions Config File

Feb 18, 2010

I've been trying out Nautilus-actions (Gnome 2.28.4), but have been unable to import most config files from [url].

When I attempt to import an action, it complains:

Quote:

Can't parse file 'convert_flv_to_avi.schemas' as GConf schema description file!

This XML file is not a valid Nautilus-actions config file (missing keys: )

So far, the only one that has worked for me is "Move to custom folder" [url].

Ubuntu :: Nautilus-actions Path Set Incorrectly

Jul 16, 2010

I am installing lucid, have installed nautilus-actions, and am trying to install a "Search for file in the active folder" function into nautilus-actions.. I brought up Nautilus Actions Configuration under System>Preferences and did the following:

Under Action tab
Checked Display item in selection context menu
Unchecked Display item in location context menu
Label: Search For File In Active Folder

[Code]....

when I right click a folder and select "Search For File in Active Folder, it brings up the search tool, but the folder setting is always my home folder--not the active folder. Of course I can change the folder to be searched, but the point was to search in the active folder. I got this Search For File in Active Folder function from an Internet site that I don't remember. However, I thought --path=%M would get me the active folder.

General :: Nautilus-actions 3.0 And Desktop Menu

May 8, 2010

I'm using gnome and I'm trying to add custom actions to the right-click on desktop menu. I've read that this can be done using nautilus-actions, but all the references I've found explain it for older versions of nautilus-actions.

If I create an action (a firefox launcher, for example) and don't add any special conditions for it to show up, it shows when I right-click anything in nautilus, but not on the desktop.

I know it's possible since nautilus-open-terminal shows up on the desktop menu.

Ubuntu :: Edit Existing Right Click Menu With Nautilus Actions

Feb 26, 2011

I installed nautilus-actions in order to edit the right-click menu when I click on pictures. All tutorials I read deal with adding custom entries to the right-click menu. But what I want to do, is to edit the present nautilus right click menu. In particular, I have installed nautilus-batch-rename, which comes in english. I want to translate the right-click entry "Rename files..." to German, since my system language is German, too. I already managed to translate the batch-rename pop-up program entries after clicking "rename files..." by editing nautilus-batch-rename.glade but I would love to translate "rename files..." as well.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Actions 3.0.5 - Natty Missing Addons In Context Menu

Apr 30, 2011

Upon a fresh installation of Ubuntu Natty, I have noticed only a couple of my nautilus-actions are actually showing up in the context menu. On further review, I noticed Nautilus-actions has changed a lot, and I cannot seem to figure out why most of my actions are not showing up. It seems no matter what I change, they will not show up. Some of the ones I cannot seem to get up are 'Wipe' commands and several of my homemade ones that worked flawlessly in past Ubuntu versions, such as Chown, Make Executable, Renamer, among others. Oddly, two of them work just fine, Search Here and Open Root Nautilus. I am not sure why these work, while the others do not, other than they are not used by selecting item(s)/folders. Also, I noticed there is a change with the parameters, in which now all of them use %F instead of %M. Does anybody know why that is, and/or does it really matter. FYI, I am using the classic version, not Unity as my desktop.

Debian :: Use File Manager Actions With Root Permissions?

Jul 30, 2011

If I use the GUI File Manager I ofter get stuck because I need root permissions to write or delete some file or directory. I realize I can drop down to Terminal and do either a sudo or change the permissions of a particular file, but these are several extra steps. Is there a way I can perform root actions on files using File Manager/Browser? Or is there an alternative file manager program I can explore that is more flexible? I am currently using Debian 6.01a installed from the Live CD, Nautilus 2.30.1.

I already set the three edit vars to allow remote editing etc.So I looked in the top 15 Google hits for "Privoxy standard.Cautious". Apparently, nobody else knows how to do this either even tried launching firefox in root. but I'm getting kind-of frustrated with the writers/maintainers of Privoxy 3.

Ubuntu Servers :: Webdav + Nautilus = Forbidden - DON'T Have "Options Indexes" In Apache Config File When Try To Access Via Firefox

Feb 20, 2010

I've installed webdav on my server and I can access it fine through cadaver. However, when I try to access it via nautilus, I get Forbidden. It is NOT secured (SSL). When I try to access it via firefox, I get an error since I DO NOT have "Options Indexes" in my apache config file. If I add this option in, then I can browse the root direction and webdav folder via firefox, but still not from nautilus. what other information you need. I've googled and searched the forums for awhile, but not "solutions" I found have worked for me. I want the webdav folder to just be a single folder within the direction, so this is how I have my config file setup:

[Code]....

As a side-note...when I included "Option Indexes", it allowed me to view the passwd.dav file from firefox! That doesn't seem very good...

General :: Searching Content Of The File Using File Browser Nautilus?

May 27, 2011

I'm using rhel6. Using File Browser Nautilus 2.28.4 I could easily locate any file I'm interested in by it name. I'd like to use this File Browser to locate the file name based on it content e.g. based on some word in the text file. It doesn't work for me that way ... My question: does Nautilus support the search of file based on it content or only based on the name of the file itself?

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Copy File/directory Path Should Not Put "file://" Prefix

Dec 27, 2010

I really missed the old Ubuntu file/dir. copying feature. When I copied in nautilus file explorer and paste into a terminal or text editor, I got the exact path (eg. /home/user/abc.txt), but when coming the Ubuntu 10.04, it added some "file://" prefix to the actual path (eg. file:///home/user/abc.txt), and I always had to manually delete the "file://" prefix. I don't see clearly that we need to place "file://" in front of the actual path (maybe just in the case we want to put the path in an Internet browser?). Wish this reversed back.

Ubuntu :: Make Nautilus As File Manager?

I looked online but most "solutions" are for the other way round and in either case, didn't work for me.

I tried changing the 'inode/directory' file association to Nautilus but it didn't change anything. What can I do ? (I have GNOME as a DE here too .. But I would like to know how to change the association in KDE as well)

Ubuntu :: No Nautilus File Dialogue Window In Ooo 3.3?

I just upgraded from Ooo 2.4 to Ooo 3.3, running it on Hardy. Everything seems to work fine, except for the dialogue window to open / save files.

In the previous version of Ooo I worked with, files were opened and saved by Nautilus. Now Ooo uses a different file manager which I don't like, because I can't jump quickly to my favourite maps and it's harder to navigate through my files. It has to be easy to have Nautilus again opening files, but I just can't find out how.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Ignores File Associations?

Apr 19, 2011

I have my default text files (also source codes etc.) associated with gedit (checked with ubuntu tweak). However, nautilus tries it to open with some "notepad" - dunno what it is I don't even have such a program. Files are OK, opening them directly from gedit or vim is fine. Some weird things:- nautilus correctly displays gedit icon- I have dualboot system with windows 7 and notepad command looks like it came from "there"- when I click on open with -> gedit, file is correctly open. However this option is not remembered by nautilus (even though I checked it as always open with ...)- nautilus (after clicking on open with) also suggest to use some "iexplore" command, I totally don't have idea where that came from Any suggestions? I really don't feel like using another file manager, but opening text files is pretty elementeray action and should work properly

Software :: KDE/Nautilus File Associations?

Jan 4, 2010

I know Dolphin/Konqueror is the manager of choice while in KDE, but I prefer Nautilus, mostly because I'm used to it. If I launch either a pure Openbox or Gnome session, Nautilus works perfectly fine. If I launch a KDE or KDE/Openbox session, Nautilus seems to 'forget' all the file associations for... well, pretty much everything. Thumbnail image previews and the mouse-over playing of audio files also seems to have stopped working, though these I can live without.

I looked into how Openbox handles it, and it seems to be that it launches 'Gnome services' to allow it, but I've not found exactly what those are, or how to launch them within KDE to fix Nautilus.

This is on Debian Lenny, with the KDE 4.3 repository containing the backport for Lenny enabled.

Ubuntu :: Translate GUI Actions To CL Code?

Jul 27, 2010

The main thing I want to know is: how to translate my GUI actions into command-line code. I want to know if there is a command that outputs all the commands being made by interaction with my GUI.Say, for example that I type this command and then open a file, the terminal would then print: "gnome-open /{path to file}".(The reason I ask is because I need to know a command to open with a non-default program. I have downloaded MiniCopier, so I want to add a launcher for it to my panel, by figuring out the code to launch it, but the default app to open ".jar" files is archive manager, rather than Java, so "gnome-open" doesn't do the trick. I've even changed the default to Java and still "gnome-open" uses archive manager, while double-clicking will use the new default=java. Weird...)
