In Fedora 15, when I plug a USB drive, Nautilus will automatically open and show whats inside of it. I'm working in a project where I have to plug and unplug USB drives many times, and Nautilus opening every time is really annoying. I tried to use gconf-edit and set the keys apps>nautilus>preferences>media_automount and media_automount_open to false, but it didn't work.

This may sound silly, but when I want to post pictures on, for instance, Facebook they upload as the picture was originally taken. So, if I took a picture with the camera flipped sideways it appears upright in Nautilus and the two image viewers I have installed, but when I upload the picture it appears to be flipped on its side. Does anyone know how to disable the auto-rotate when viewing feature?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have succesfully attached some networkdrives (Windowsshares actually) to Nautilus. It's possible to access these with Nautilus and the Open File Dialog of Open Office.
However .. The "Save To" in Google Chrome and "Open File" in Notecase are not showing these networkdrives. Is this a different browser? Is there somewhere somehow a setting to see the drives?

My Fedora does not auto detect a flash drive if I get to attach it with the OS already running. I still have to make a reboot and attached the drive right from the start in order for it to be detected/mounted.
Unlike In Mint 7, Ubuntu and XP, it automatically detects the flash drive as soon as it is attached.

I have an issue that my BACKUP drive is listed twice. (internal FAT) I am running F12 32b. I have it listed in FSTAB so it will automount & set the permissions. I did this in the earlier versions I upgraded from. I would like to either get rid of the other entry or, if easier, make it auto & set permissions but I don't know where it is.

I have an usb drive attached to my server. I use the driver with LVM. When the drive is switched on at server start up my dev directory is updated accordingly (I got the entry /dev/VolGroup01/.... ; but when I switch on the server and later on attach the usb drive and switch it on I can't use it through LVM because the drive never appears under /dev/mapper/ or /dev/ even tough dmesg says that a drive was found and attached to sdb. My lvm configuration looks like below. How to let mapper know that I just attached a usb drive that was previously configured with lvm?

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 on and external usb drive and now my computer which runs XP will not boot unless the external drive is connected and on. Can I by pass this situation or do I have to uninstall ubuntu altogether and start over?

But for my laptop, no matter what device I plug into the USB port (say a flash drive). There are only bunch of usbdev1.1_ep00, usbdev1.2_ep00, usbdev1.3_ep00 and usbmon* files, but not any ttyUSB*? I want to know is what is the difference between ttyUSB and usbdev1.1_ep00 files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have connected (sata cable I mean) the drive where I have got my Ubuntu installation to another pc with windows 7 64 bits (but I think that 32 and 64 doesn't make difference). Windows 7 doesn't boot. So I thought it may be some kind of issue with the hard drive itself (but the drive is healthy), anyway I have plugged one drive from one NAS (you know, NAS drives are linux partitioned and formatted).Same result: windows 7 doesn't boot.

Looks really like that Windows 7 doesn't boot if any linux partitioned and formatted drive is present.
There must be a way to disable CTRL+Q for Nautilus, but google has failed me Actually, I usually have several permanent nautilus windows opened, and when I just hit CTRL+Q on the wrong window, it closed all of nautilus!
So I just "pkill nautilus" to restore the previous nautilus session (even if we can't control nautilus window session manually). But there are still a few things that could be improved for Nautilus. So for now, can we disable CTRL+Q shortcut for Nautilus?
Just upgraded to 11.04 and this drives me nuts. When an app/window is opened, if it is "sufficiently" large, it maximizes. I use eclipse. Eclipse is a screen-space hog, however I still need to be able to see other windows and the application bar around the edge of the eclipse window. Unfortunatly Unity(?) is fighting me on this set up because every time i relaunch eclipse, it becomes maximized even if I, the user, have explicitly un-maximized it.
How can I disable this auto-maximize behavior.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 15, and am trying to run a program that uses gsoap/soapcpp2 2.7.17 to communicate with different parts of the program. As far as I know everything has compiled correctly and I am using the same versions of the required libraries as several working installations. However, every single time the program tries to open a port, the program is unable to do so. This happens no matter what port I specify.
if there is anything in fedora that would limit or disable the ability of the program to open a port to start communicating. I have tried disabling the firewall with no change to the behaviour.
Is it possible to disable caching of thumbnails in nautilus but still have them on? I tried linking .thumbnails to /dev/null but that just disabled them completely.

I searched /etc/fstab but found no entries for those partitions. So I guess there may be something like start-up scripts that automatically detect and mount all partitions on the hard disk at boot/login. Does anybody know the location of those scripts (if any)? I want to disable that auto mount.
