I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 and GNOME-Do that I installed through KPackage. Why won't it open when there are windows visible? I hate having to minimize windows to use GNOME-Do.
View 2 RepliesIm having a rather bizarre problem with the gnome panel in ubuntu 11.04. When i go to places and try to home folder, desktop, etc with a mouse click, Nautilus does not open. Instead a really old looking program called textedit opens. The only thing that doesnt cause textedit to open is clicking on computer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 11 (same problem on my 32 and 64bit systems), I have Logitech bluetooth mice and keyboards hooked up to both of my systems. Occasionally, one of my keyboards stops responding and I simply open up the Bluetooth Preferences window, delete the keyboard and then set it up again. However, now when I click the Setup New Device button, nothing happens! This is happening on two seperate systems. Am I to believe this is the result of a bad update? I've checked my yum log and it hasen't updated any bluetooth packages for a few weeks now and this just started the other day. Any ideas what could be wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded wubi.exe from Opera 10.61. The file downloads ok, but then refuses to do anything when I click on the file.
I also switched to my IE version, and tried to run the file from there. Again, I get the hourglass symbol for a couple of seconds, then nothing.
I'm running Windows 98. I know, I should have a newer version, but finances can't manage that right now. In the meantime, is there a manual way to run the installer for wubi and get it to work?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm travelling currently so the last network i connected successfully to was my home wpa-psk network. I hadn't tried anything until i got to my accommodation that is an open network (that I'm on now on the Win7 partition on my laptop).
The network (and a similar archetypical 'linksys' open network, aswell as some protected local networks are correctly displayed in network-manager and upon selection, it happily spins around to its hearts content for a while before saying 'no chance boy'.
/var/log/syslog spills out the usual combination of wpa_supplicant and kernel messages, the most interesting of are that the kernel deauthentication reason 6 response. 6 apparently means class2FrameFromNonAuthStation...Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated.
Anyone seen anything like this? I've already tried going closer to the router to no avail. I don't remember seeing this any other time I've connected to a open AP, even if that AP is far away. (Signal strength for this AP is good, kismet says its around -57dBm, well above the threshold of -80dBm, and I've tried all the suggestions from the 'Related Questions' code...
When I run a slide show (F5), the Gnome panel is shown in the screen. Sometimes it is hidden below the slide show, but usually the panel is shown. How do I make it hidden during a slide show or is this some kind of bug? Did not find anything on google.

I have a clean install of openSUSE 11.4 64 bit using gnome as the desktop manager. When selecting applications from the gnome menu, randomly the application will appear to not launch. However, if I click anywhere in left, upper portion of my desktop it becomes obvious that the application has launched and is not visible. For example, yast will not appear but clicking in that portion of my desktop causes various windows to appear that correspond to the different options in the yast home screen.

I am going back to Windows for good. All I need to know is what are the partitions settings so that it will be reconized able in windows. I planning on saving some of my songs and other media that I have collected but I dont want loss all of on some wasted space that isnt readable. So simply put what setting are needed to make a partition visible in windows 7 using gparted.

Its been doing it for a few weeks. I install lots of eye candy/themes etc and have Avant, docky and cario-dock and think it be may some eye candy I installed, not sure. I have a ATI graphics card thats been tested by the distro.Using the latest 10.10 as I update security and recommended updates via update manager.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have succesfully attached some networkdrives (Windowsshares actually) to Nautilus. It's possible to access these with Nautilus and the Open File Dialog of Open Office.
However .. The "Save To" in Google Chrome and "Open File" in Notecase are not showing these networkdrives. Is this a different browser? Is there somewhere somehow a setting to see the drives?

I have setup samba (samba + openldap) as my pdc. Some windows systems which are added to the domain are not visible through the windows xp's network neighborhood. However all the clients can login, browse other systems except for those which are not listed in the network neighborhood. I have attached the smb.conf file for reference.

Older machine here that I upgraded to 10.04 after a clean install of 9.10 some months ago. When booting into GNOME, the desktop image flashes on the screen and the second the bars on top and bottom try to appear the system boots out of the desktop and returns to the log on screen. I assume this is a crash of Xserver, but just guessing. Per another page I ran: lspci | grep VGAand returned:

I have two computers running Ubuntu 9.10, both have one shared folder. These were set up via Nautilus.
On computer 1 I can see and use the shared folder of computer 2 just fine.
On computer 2 I can NOT see the shared folder of computer 1 anymore since recently. I has worked in the past.
Some more information: the name of computer 1 is "daniel", the share name is "gedeeld". So the address of the shared folder of computer 1 would be smb://daniel/gedeeld/
Opening this address in Nautilus works fine on computer 1 (that shares the folder), but results in an error on computer 2.

Ok For some reason I open my ports in security and firewall. I open ssh and other ports and port 7001 for example but when I go to check to see if they are open or try to connect to them. It shows that they are still closed. I am using - [URL] Also yes my ports are open on my router. I know my router works fine with opening ports because I have shoutcast setup on another computer with xp that is currently running. I am willing to pay for who can ever get this fixed for me...

using Ubuntu file browser, I browsed my Windows network and logged on to a Windows PC. Now Ubuntu file browser shows me "C$ on WinPC" as a folder. I can open it, read/write files, etc.But from bash prompt, I don't see anything of type CIFS/SMBFS listed in the output of "mount". Only the usual suspects (like local CDROM). i wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?

I have a 60 g internal laptop hard drive, 30g is Windows 7 and 30g is Ubuntu.
When in Ubunutu I can access the window's driver and mount it, however, when I am in windows 7 it only shows the Window's partition.
Is there a simple way I can get the ubunutu partition to show up>
I enabled the windows preview effect from CCSM but it seems to be working only for the open windows. For the windows that I have minimized, no preview is shown when I hover over them in taskbar

So I shrunk my Windows 7 partition. Now I have a 450GB partition with Windows 7 on it and a 50GB partition for Ubuntu that is unallocated space currently. So when I go to the setup for Ubuntu, booted into using my USB flash drive, it doesn't recognise that Windows is there. It thinks that the hard drive, all 500GB of it, is free space. Going into GParted, it also seems to think that the entire hard drive is a blob of unallocated space. According to tutorials online, this shouldn't be happening. It should recognise the two different partitions. So I went into Computer in Ubuntu (Live) just to double-check and indeed all my Windows files are there and I can still boot into Windows just fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a hp pc that has a hard drive of 750 gb and a recovery hard drive of 31gb. I installed linux side by side with windows 7 for dual booting. Now I can't boot windows 7 anymore. During the installation of linux, I chose the advanced option so as to manually partition the drives for linux. On the available list of drives, I chose the 750gb and clicked on modify. I chose 150gb for the root "/" (on ext4) and 700mb for swap out of the 750gb and clicked install. After finishing the installation I restarted the pc and sought to test linux. The linux works fine but when i tried to start windows, I have a boot error. My pc doesn't seem to recognize windows anymore. It takes me straight to the HP recovery tool. I don't understand why. So I logged into ubuntu and check the disk utility and I discovered that I have a whooping 600gb unallocated space. It's like my whole windows is gone. This is what Disk Utilty shows

What can I do to recover my windows back?
