Ubuntu :: Use Downloaded Login Theme On U10.10?
Apr 11, 2011I am very new at Ubuntu, I only recently changed over from windows cause my computer was infested with a bagillion viruses. I have been trying to customize all my displays and I found a bunch of theme's for my login screen at the gnome web page, but i cant figure out how to implement them. It took me long enough to figure out how to change my desktop, but it seems there is no easy way to change the login screen. I got Ubuntu tweak, but that only allows you to change the background and the button, I was hoping to find a way to use the ones downloaded from the web. Does anyone know hpow to easily apply a gnome theme to your ubuntu login screen/boot menu?

Apr 11, 2010Sometimes when I log on, I find that the theme (specifically the window borders and icons) didn't load properly, and that I instead get a set of grayish window borders (Raleigh, I believe) and the gray GNOME icons. Sometimes the window borders corrects itself, but the icons stay the same. Reloading compiz doesn't help, and the only solution I found was to logoff/logon.

Jul 20, 2010After an upgrade to OpenSuse 11.3 KDE has gone to worse. I am beginning to believe that dark themes are impossible to use on the new KDE 4.4.4. The only theme that works properly is Air, but I find it to much white. Aya or Elegance theme have problems showing the buttons on plasma elements, so has any other theme but Air. Trying to switch to an additional dark color theme (Obsidian Coast) does not work properly either.
The buttons on plasma elements are invisible (the button panel that appears when the mouse is over an plasma element). Sometimes different elements are distorted, i.e. icons, text input boxes etc. I wonder how it is possible that the developers at KDE can make it worse. This worked perfectly on OpenSuse 11.2 and its KDE version.

Aug 15, 2010I installed a theme in emerald, and it didn't do anything, like, it had no effect on my windows or anything. So i did some searching and the only thing i could find was to run "emerald --replace" in the terminal, and it worked, but if I exit out of the terminal, it reverts back to the old theme.How do I keep emerald's theme, even after I exit the terminal?

Mar 1, 2010after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?

I want to install it with wubi because in this case their less chance of data loss and easier to use. Aug 2, 2011Just installed Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit on an older Dell D610 laptop. Everything was running a little slow but all in all running fine except one thing - I downloaded the Chrome deb file and also the deb file from Moneydance. When I double-click on either of these deb files, it opens up the Ubuntu Software Center and shows an 'Install' button for the app. I click Install and then enter my root password, then nothing happens. A short while later the Install button turns from grayed out to clickable again. So I click it again, and it says that the deb file is not packaged correctly.
I've tried it with multiple deb files now and get the same thing. Installing directly through the Ubuntu Software Center works fine, but unortunately Chrome and Moneydance aren't in there (I prefer Chrome to Chromium). What could be causing this?
Also - due to the slowness of the Ubuntu install I did a clean install to Xubuntu and I like that much better and it is running perfectly except for this issue of not being able to install any 3rd-party downloaded apps.

Jul 10, 2010I am in the process of moving all my data from Windows to Ubuntu. So far everything has gone well and I am very impressed with Ubuntu and regret not doing this years ago.
One program is giving problems. It is a program called Sharescope and I pay a subscription for it and it runs in my Windows partition. I downloaded Wine and then downloaded Sharescope three times but when I click to install it comes up with the following message;

I contacted Sharescope and they said it was a permission issue in Ubuntu. Is there any way to install this program or will I have to work with it in Windows?
Ubuntu :: Current Theme Defaults To Silver Theme For No Reason Randomly On Login
May 4, 2011For some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.
