View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu on my machine which doesn't have Internet. I can access the net on my laptop and copy any files over. I am wanting to install blueman to tether my iPhone. I cannot find a .deb of it, so downloaded the tar.gz but the stock install doesnt have a compiler. I could download and copy over a compiler, but I'm guessing I'm going to be here hours copying over each dependancy that I come across (I'm guessing there may be a few) how I can tether my iPhone or how I can install blueman? Does anyone know of any pre-built packages I can just copy n install?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I have Debien 7.8 Wheezy installed on my laptop, along with the GNOME desktop. As I absolutely hate the new GNOME layout I want to install MATE so I can get the classic GNOME 2 desktop back. But I have no internet connection here at home (I only have my phone for internet and I can't tether it).
So I'm wondering if it's possible for me to download all the packages and install MATE offline? I don't even know what all the packages are that I need.I can download the packages with my phone with no issue.
I installed Debian on my laptop with the Debian DVDs in case you were wondering. when I downloaded the Debian DVD ISOs, I only saw three ISO files, but the documentation said that it's a 10 DVD set. What happened to the other 7 DVD ISOs?

P.S. I have Ubuntu 64-bit the PC that need the install is a 32-bit both are 10.04.
is there a way to install programs offline other than apt-on cd and keryx? maybe a script to copy the files on a flash drive to /var/cache/apt/archives

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a monthful of Spotify Premium to enjoy music at the school with my laptop and Nokia E71 with the offline mode - the WiFi at our school is too laggy to stream online music. Under wine, it works quite fine, however, I would totally like to use the native client (yes, I'm too a "yay linux" person like all of you here ), but the music quality is very poor on offline mode. It clips, goes forward, a second back, then back forward etc. The bitrate sounds to be high, an the quality is very good except the annoying clipping.
Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Beta release with Samsung N510 so the cpu power should not be an issue even though the native client uses the resources very greedily. Interesting enough, on my desktop computer (Core2Quad @ 3,3GHz, 4GB 900MHz DDR2 RAM) with the same OS version and software plays offline playlists smoothly (only some occasional clipping)
Is it possible to download MySQL, Apache and PHP first? And install them on Ubuntu system offline. Is anybody know how can I get them and install them?
I have to install LAMP server on many system for the purpose of training. So I don't want to download them repeatably. Once download them, install on all system.
after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?
i have downloaded a game called YSFlight but there is no sound on it. I previously played this game on Windows so i know it does have sound. i HAVE installed "YSFlight for Linux" so i know that isn't the problem, and i have also checked all of the sound settings. Every other 'sound' that is with Ubuntu Linux works fine (music, video, error/notifications).
I am using Ubuntu Linux 10.10 with a Dell Inspiron 1525 which previously had Windows Vista Basic 32 bit. I have never had a sound problem with this laptop. Does anyone have any ideas of what is wrong? I am currently running Ubuntu Linux via a disk (the "Try It" option), to test programs that i like, and this is where i found the problem *
So I downloaded a bunch of movies on Ubuntu, which work fine. They are on a shared drive, so when I look at them using Windows 7 they are displayed as a 'file' rather than an .avi
They can still be opened and played in VLC and play fine
I downloaded some rpm files from rpmfusion.org to my computer using my Windows Vista OS. I then moved the files to the partition where Fedora is installed. When I ran the files on the terminal using the rpm command, it showed a lot of errors like: xyz needs abc.. and so on. How then can I install softwares and codecs on my computer without being online? I don't have screenshots right now.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to convert downloaded Flash videos to mp4. I first tried WinFF (a front-end to ffmpeg) and got an error message, so then I tried using ffmpeg directly in the terminal, only to get the same message. I remember doing this same thing in the past with no problems, so something must be wrong. I'm on Karmic 64 bit. The message I get is the following:

I'm having another go at ubuntu!I have Ubuntu 10.10 running (a fresh install).I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the linux drivers for it, (it's a .run file). So I try runnig it via the terminal, it goes great untill it mentions that I need to exit the X Window system?

I downloaded and installed the newest version of Fedora, version 15, in my refurbished computer. It's the CD version; so much of the stuff are missing, including an office suite. I didn't have a DVD-ROM drive on the system, thus I installed the CD version. On the CD version, I was displeased that I can't install Samba offline; I had to download it. Don't ask me why I don't want to download it, it's just my preference to be able to have a basic computer function like Samba on an official distribution, like a calculator, an office suite (again, was left out), and a file manager.
Fedora's website describes the DVD edition of the operating system as having more software than the CD version. Now, for those who have used the new Fedora and also used Samba, does it come installed, or do you have to go online to download it? I understand if you don't want MP3s or DVD decryption software, but how does LAN file-sharing count as something that's illegal?
I have a laptop on a wireless network in a apartment building, but the server is in the manager's office, the signal is real good. I also have a desktop with no wireless or wired connection. My question is how do I transfer my apps from my laptop to my desktop in offline mode?
I don't want to install a wireless card for my desktop. Is there a way to install synaptic while offline? Or is there a way to install these apps from a flash drive to my desktop, if so how would I do that?
I downloaded Catalyst 9.3 and tried to install, but it doesn't want to install, sorry, but i can't paste you error message, because my laptop is far away from me now. I can do it tomorrow. May be it is just impossible to install ATI Catalyst 9,3 on lenny and i should try a lower version of Debian? Could u suggest me what to do? I searched over the net for a long period of time, but found nothing relevant to my problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been away from Linux in general and Ubuntu since 2006, but now wish to make Linux, and probably the Ubuntu distribution, my main operating system, especially for the Internet. I have been using Open Office since version 1.0, so no training or migration is necessary there. However, I have one challenge with my Ubuntu 9.1 ... movies which play under Windows will not play in Ubuntu. Under Windows Firefox needs Adobe Flash Player 10 to play these videos ... is there some open source software that will give Ubuntu Firefox the same capability?
