I backed up .themes from /home, but on trying to install them (files don't show as theme packages) it says "There was an error installing the selected file, index.theme doesn't appear to be a valid theme". Did I backup the right thing?

I'm running Fedora 11 x86_64 (GNOME) and I'm having a problem installing ANY themes from http://art.gnome.org. Any time I try to install a theme I get an error that it's "appears to not be a valid theme" When I first click the install button and navigate to my theme packages, I don't see the [dot] theme file, which is a red-flag. I change to "All files" and I tend to see an "index.theme". Is this the correct file?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.
Im trying to use a downloaded theme (from [URL]) om my FVWM window manager, but the theme depends on various programs that isn`t in the Fedora repository. Namely habak, trayer and rox-filer (the last one is optional though). Is there any way to download these programs and install them independantly?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?

I installed a theme in emerald, and it didn't do anything, like, it had no effect on my windows or anything. So i did some searching and the only thing i could find was to run "emerald --replace" in the terminal, and it worked, but if I exit out of the terminal, it reverts back to the old theme.How do I keep emerald's theme, even after I exit the terminal?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI enjoy using vim from lxterminal with the black background, as well as awesome with its dark theme. I configured xfe manually to be darkish, and i use darklooks as a GTK theme to suit it as well. I could say all my desktop looks pretty dark, which my eyes thank me for. I also use redshift.But problems come along when surfing the web. Most web pages (including this one) have very bright styles. They are not the problem themselves, but switching from my windows hurts my eyes since it's a quick change to a much brighter screen.What would you do, either:
1. Use everything with a brighter background and putting the screen brightness a bit lower. (changing the GTK theme to clearlooks, using lxterminal with a white background, etc.)
2. Use some color theme with uzbl so that pages would look much darker. (like when you set manually the text and background colors in Firefox/Iceweasel)
I would myself go with the second one if most pages wouldn't look that bad when modified that way. For example, many pages use non-transparent images with white backgrounds on white pages, so if you change the background to black not only it looks horrible but it too is a mess.

View 1 Replies View Relatedreally wish to customize my GDM for ubuntu 11.4 but failed to do so.....therefore i decided to use alt. such as SLiM.....I could install it properly in virtualbox but when i went to do it on my real ubuntu 11.4 ......the screen stops at plymouth theme or goes blank after loading plymouth theme......then i read further more blogs and made changes and now even if i configure SLim the GDM starts no matter what i do .........
PS : I am new to ubuntu and dont have any knowledge about scripting programming and stuff....
i tried to install some themes and after the installation, I'm having problems on my "Places" menu(from the upper left next to Applications). The thing is, when I try to(from up to my drive letters) select from the said menu, I'm always being redirected to the themes settings with an error "There was an error installing the selected file."

I'm not sure if it's readable on some computers, but there are two folders within the main folder. They are labeled as gtk-2.0, metacity-1, and a notepad file called "ColorBit" which is the name of the the actual theme.
The notepad file has some writing in it, which reads:

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I log in locally, sometimes my theme isn't applied. This problem started a few weeks ago, but before that the same theme would load just fine every time. In order to get my chosen theme to load, I go System > Preferences > Appearance. As soon as I click "Appearance"...boom. My theme loads and all is fine. I don't have to change settings or anything....just start the "Appearance" utility.
This doesn't all of the time, only sporadically. Another thing to mention is that I'm using AWN. When this happens, AWN doesn't load all of the launchers. I killall and restart AWN and all is good there. Anybody have a clue what could be going on? Compiz related?
Sometimes when I log on, I find that the theme (specifically the window borders and icons) didn't load properly, and that I instead get a set of grayish window borders (Raleigh, I believe) and the gray GNOME icons. Sometimes the window borders corrects itself, but the icons stay the same. Reloading compiz doesn't help, and the only solution I found was to logoff/logon.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 using standard Update Manager procedure. Now themes don't work. When I change the theme, the window decorations change accordingly, but the contents of the windows (controls, panels) are in the raw X look (I don't know how else to put it) and do not change regardless of theme selection. I've tried customizing the theme and selecting something different on the "Controls" tab, but it doesn't work.
X is working properly with Nvidia driver, Compiz is working properly as well. Killing Compiz didn't help with the theme problem.I used 64-bit Lucid, so I guess it upgraded to 64-bit Maverick.

I use amarok because I like it much better than rythmbox or any other gnome music app. Now there is one problem, I use a dark color theme under gnome but amarok stays light, and I can't use custom colors as in amarok14. Now my question is how can I make amarok use my gnome theme, or at least give also a dark look? nd is it possible to show only the lyrics on my desktop?

That was the aim actually, when I decided to install Slackware 13.1 instead of the Win 7 on my new laptop.And here is one of the two things that I have to do now, to make the system completely the same as I want it to be.I use a black theme - Audacious - on my XFCE on Slackware 13.1. And the skype doesn't use the theme. It stays originally light.
(At work I'm with Mint with LXDE, the same theme. Exactly. And the skype uses it. And looks very good ...)So, I tried the options in the skype options menu - General - Choose style. But no option has the desired effect.I plan to uninstall skype and either install it again from slackbuilds, or just download the static (or the dynamic) one from skype.com. But, if there is something else I can do - I'd prefer this way.PS: There is something curious also - OpenOffice on the Mint distro doesnt' use the theme. Yesterday, I installed a new theme for my laptop (Ubuntu 11.04(32-bit)) and soon after, I noticed that the animations I set up were not showing up anymore. Before the installation, everything worked fine. The theme is called MacBuntu 11.04. (Not the original one)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have KDE 4.6.3 installed, but I'm not using KDE as my desktop (just Openbox).
For some reason, KDE's "Oxygen" theme isn't available in qtconfig. Also, KDE apps seem to be following the selection in qtconfig, not the one in KDE's System Settings.
I rember that before, qtconfig let you choose Oxygen, and KDE apps followed the choice in KDE System Settings (even if you were not using KDE).

I've finally managed to get a local install of WP up and running but, for some reason, when I copy new theme directories into the themes folder, WP-Admin doesn't see them.I've spent about 4 hours working my way through this and this is the last problem I've got to deal with
