OpenSUSE :: 11.3 And KDE 4.4.4 - Additional Dark Color Theme Does Not Work Properly
Jul 20, 2010After an upgrade to OpenSuse 11.3 KDE has gone to worse. I am beginning to believe that dark themes are impossible to use on the new KDE 4.4.4. The only theme that works properly is Air, but I find it to much white. Aya or Elegance theme have problems showing the buttons on plasma elements, so has any other theme but Air. Trying to switch to an additional dark color theme (Obsidian Coast) does not work properly either.
The buttons on plasma elements are invisible (the button panel that appears when the mouse is over an plasma element). Sometimes different elements are distorted, i.e. icons, text input boxes etc. I wonder how it is possible that the developers at KDE can make it worse. This worked perfectly on OpenSuse 11.2 and its KDE version.
Debian Multimedia :: GTK2 Theme Based On Murrine Don't Work?
May 8, 2010I downloaded a lot of gtk2 themes based on the Murrine engine (the 0.90.3-2 version) but they don't work.
When I select them with Lxapperance, it returns something like "gtkrc:91: error: unexpected identifier `gradient_colors', expected character `}'" for each line.

Dec 27, 2014I am "old" Linux user. I use Debian with satisfaction on my old PC for many years. I have a new notebook: HP Envy 17 j112nl :

Of course i have install Debian 8 Jessie (Testing - AMD64).The main problem of this notebook is "Beats Audio" Chip IDT 92HD91BXX. After install Debian use by default only the base ones: no subwoofer, URL...

Ubuntu :: Theme Doesn't Load Properly
Apr 11, 2010Sometimes when I log on, I find that the theme (specifically the window borders and icons) didn't load properly, and that I instead get a set of grayish window borders (Raleigh, I believe) and the gray GNOME icons. Sometimes the window borders corrects itself, but the icons stay the same. Reloading compiz doesn't help, and the only solution I found was to logoff/logon.

Just wondered if anyone had a fix before I RMA and return it as "Not suitable for purpose" WD say it should be OK with linux. But it ain't. It gives very poor perfromance, with a lot of hesitation. The issue is apparently one of sector boundaries, but the exact details are extremely complex.

to /etc/profile all QT5 apps should use the gtk theme but for some reason this doesn't seem to work.
Adding -style=gtk to the launcher options works but I want to change the theme setting for all QT5 apps.
Debian Multimedia :: Dark Theme Vs Light Theme
Aug 4, 2011I enjoy using vim from lxterminal with the black background, as well as awesome with its dark theme. I configured xfe manually to be darkish, and i use darklooks as a GTK theme to suit it as well. I could say all my desktop looks pretty dark, which my eyes thank me for. I also use redshift.But problems come along when surfing the web. Most web pages (including this one) have very bright styles. They are not the problem themselves, but switching from my windows hurts my eyes since it's a quick change to a much brighter screen.What would you do, either:
1. Use everything with a brighter background and putting the screen brightness a bit lower. (changing the GTK theme to clearlooks, using lxterminal with a white background, etc.)
2. Use some color theme with uzbl so that pages would look much darker. (like when you set manually the text and background colors in Firefox/Iceweasel)
I would myself go with the second one if most pages wouldn't look that bad when modified that way. For example, many pages use non-transparent images with white backgrounds on white pages, so if you change the background to black not only it looks horrible but it too is a mess.

Apr 23, 2009I have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.

Oct 11, 2010Upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 using standard Update Manager procedure. Now themes don't work. When I change the theme, the window decorations change accordingly, but the contents of the windows (controls, panels) are in the raw X look (I don't know how else to put it) and do not change regardless of theme selection. I've tried customizing the theme and selecting something different on the "Controls" tab, but it doesn't work.
X is working properly with Nvidia driver, Compiz is working properly as well. Killing Compiz didn't help with the theme problem.I used 64-bit Lucid, so I guess it upgraded to 64-bit Maverick.

Keep being told it cant find it! It only has one line running info.php. Keeps saying there is a swp file of this name in var/www. How do I delete this and get my copy of php working properly?

After installing they seem fine in all applications, except on the internet. Both FF and Chrome can't seem to read (MSTT) fonts, at all. Every website I open fonts are displayed the same as before I install MS True Type.

Mar 7, 2010I just installed ubutnu 9.10 and just installed samba. I edited the config files to workgroup to dhome which is the work group all my windows comptuer uses to share files. I want to share files and also be able to access files off my windows computers. I got onne windows 2000 that has a username needed to be typed in to access it. the rest is accessable. In the config file. I uncommented the security= user thing. I now tried to access the network but still fails.
Here is what I can see. when I go to places and click network I see windows network and click it it will say dhome and Workgroup. when I click on the dhome folder it takes a while and then gives me the error saying sorry didnt' get a list from the server. what do I need to do to access the network?

May 6, 2010I've been trying to get full video card support for the following card Radeon HD 2400 XT Im running the new 10.04 and I cant seem to get the 3d stuff to work properly with compiz When I go to Administration - Hardware drivers it recommends the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. Even after getting that installed I still cant get Normal compiz to work. I dont know if it is the driver or some other configuration.

Apr 25, 2011I am trying to install some packages in a ubuntu 8.10 server, however, apt-get doesn't work (I get several 'not found' errors). Is there any way to do that? I know this version is probably not supported anymore but I can't just format a customer server because it's OS is outdated...I just can't put my sources.list on it because I am on ubuntu 10.10 and it would download updates for the wrong OS probably causing a huge damage on the old one.

sudo /sbin/modprobe -r b43 b44 ssb wl
sudo /sbin/modprobe wl
sudo /sbin/modprobe b44
sudo /etc/init.d/network restart
My question is how can I automate the above commands, i.e. create a startup script to initialise the wireless adapter properly without the need to manually reload the kernel modules?
