Oct 15, 2010I downloaded a few themes from kde-look.org, but now I have no idea how to load them under styles. How can one load a downloaded theme under styles?

Slackware :: Default Colours And Styles In Tty
Aug 8, 2010I want to set the default colours for the vttys but can't seem to find where the defaults are kept, I can set up the vtty as I like via setterm in .bashrc etc but as soon as I do an ls or vim on return the colours are reset to white on black, been googling this but can't find an answer, any ideas?

Apr 11, 2011I am very new at Ubuntu, I only recently changed over from windows cause my computer was infested with a bagillion viruses. I have been trying to customize all my displays and I found a bunch of theme's for my login screen at the gnome web page, but i cant figure out how to implement them. It took me long enough to figure out how to change my desktop, but it seems there is no easy way to change the login screen. I got Ubuntu tweak, but that only allows you to change the background and the button, I was hoping to find a way to use the ones downloaded from the web. Does anyone know hpow to easily apply a gnome theme to your ubuntu login screen/boot menu?

Nov 26, 2010I'm running Archlinux. I used pacman(update/package manager) to download video drivers for my card, which was xf86-video-cirrus. Everything went well. Now I want to load the module/drivers.
lsmod returns list of loaded modules but the graphics isn't one of them.
How can I load the drivers that I downloaded?

Mar 5, 2010When I log in locally, sometimes my theme isn't applied. This problem started a few weeks ago, but before that the same theme would load just fine every time. In order to get my chosen theme to load, I go System > Preferences > Appearance. As soon as I click "Appearance"...boom. My theme loads and all is fine. I don't have to change settings or anything....just start the "Appearance" utility.
This doesn't all of the time, only sporadically. Another thing to mention is that I'm using AWN. When this happens, AWN doesn't load all of the launchers. I killall and restart AWN and all is good there. Anybody have a clue what could be going on? Compiz related?
Ubuntu :: Theme Doesn't Load Properly
Apr 11, 2010Sometimes when I log on, I find that the theme (specifically the window borders and icons) didn't load properly, and that I instead get a set of grayish window borders (Raleigh, I believe) and the gray GNOME icons. Sometimes the window borders corrects itself, but the icons stay the same. Reloading compiz doesn't help, and the only solution I found was to logoff/logon.

Dec 8, 2010I thought I'd try a dark gtk theme (slackware 13.1, xfce). But I find that some of my Faenza icons have updated to their dark counterpart as expected (ie light colored text in the panel clock, menus etc, but some haven't (icons within google chrome, clipman tray icon..).
Some I can replace directly, like changing wicd tray icons with ones from gnome-look or somewhere, but some I don't know how to fiddle with, like the chrome and clipman ones.
The same thing happens whichever dark gtk theme I use.
Why isn't the icon theme being universally followed? Any ideas?
Slackware :: Skype Doesn't Use The XFCE Theme?
Feb 28, 2011I'm new to Slackware (been on *buntu until now, and use Mint at work). And had to learn some things to make the system do what I want to. That was the aim actually, when I decided to install Slackware 13.1 instead of the Win 7 on my new laptop.And here is one of the two things that I have to do now, to make the system completely the same as I want it to be.I use a black theme - Audacious - on my XFCE on Slackware 13.1. And the skype doesn't use the theme. It stays originally light.
(At work I'm with Mint with LXDE, the same theme. Exactly. And the skype uses it. And looks very good ...)So, I tried the options in the skype options menu - General - Choose style. But no option has the desired effect.I plan to uninstall skype and either install it again from slackbuilds, or just download the static (or the dynamic) one from skype.com. But, if there is something else I can do - I'd prefer this way.PS: There is something curious also - OpenOffice on the Mint distro doesnt' use the theme. But OpenOffice on the laptop use it, and becomes black ... ?? ... I don't know if this tells something, but - I noticed this.
Slackware :: Slim - Default Theme Vs Black
Jan 26, 2010I'm trying out slim - the login replacement for gdm/kdm/xdm. I find that when I use the special supplied Slackware theme, I can't see the cycling of the session names as I repeatedly hit F1. But when I use the default theme they show up just fine. Is there some special tweak to /etc/slim.conf that will make the session names visible using the Slackware theme?

I'm looking to get away from the standard stylesheet (I'm using Ubuntu, and at the moment I use /usr/share/docbook-utils/docbook-utils.dsl). Is there anywhere I can browse different ones on the web to find one I like, that formats to HTML and PS/PDF?Am I even going about this in the right way? As much as I try and learn, I just can't fit it into my head how everything fits together with DocBook.

Mar 1, 2010after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?

May 1, 2011There is a very small thing which needs to be fixed in 11.04. In AisleRiot Solitaire the cards are ugly. In View -> Card styles -> Install card themes it asks me if I want to install additional software packages, but the Install button is greyed out.
This is almost trivial, but is there a way to get nicer cards?

However, being usually highly skilled in computer knowledge, I can find the proper way/area to place a new theme, I just know it might be under a folder in the root sector containing themes for kde and will be there upon restart.

Ubuntu :: Can Not Change Icon Set, Sound Scheme, Styles?
Jan 2, 2011I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu on my small 64GB SSD alongside my main drive for storage. I got everything set up just how I like it (customized clearlooks with Ubuntu Mono Light icons) the same as I have it on my laptop. I disabled all system sound effects.This morning, I wake up to it having a different icon set, and the menus having an identical grey scheme. In addition, the Ubuntu system sound effects are playing, even though in the settings it says they are disabled.I'm not really sure what's wrong! It's the same in both compiz and metacity.Here's a screenshot. Note how the boring old-style theme is applied in the update window and the menu at the top, yet the customizing themes window has the correct appearance for the buttons (funny coincidence)EDIT: I think I've narrowed it down to gnome-settings-daemon. When I try to initialize it via the terminal I get this:

Jul 27, 2011I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 and trying to learn the new Unity environment. Bibus is a reference manager which I used with great pleasure for sometime. It was perfect in terms of inserting and formating references to openoffice-writer.Now, with 11.04 Unity environment Bibus can insert references to Libreoffice-writer but can not change reference styles. Once I log out and re-enter with ubuntu-classic environment I see that Bibus is working perfectly in Gnome desktop of 11.04.In the Unity desktop I have to run Bibus as root to change styles and change reference formats.Why Bibus can not change styles and format references in Unity environment unless having root privileges?

May 4, 2011For some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.
