Ubuntu Multimedia :: Libasound2-plugins And Libsamplerate0 Installed - But Files Missing?
Apr 18, 2010
I am trying to make the sound quality better on my Ubuntu.
I have read some tips in this topic: [url]. This made to go to this topic: [url]
It says there this: (If you are lazy to click )
Re: NEED better audio quality
Quote:
I can tell you flat out that foobar with the secret rabbit plugin, even without any internal or external equalizer completely tears up linux sound.
No, it doesn't.
In Linux you can easily choose Secret Rabbit in SRC_SINC_BEST_QUALITY mode as your system-wide sample rate converter by adding a single line to either /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc (requires libasound2-plugins and libsamplerate0 to be installed):
Code:
Now show me how to do that in Windows.
I have both of those packages installed, but for some reason the file asound.conf and .asoundrc are not there so I cannot add the line.

I installed java applet for Firefox. It seems that I get the same message all the time "Install missing plugins". The path libjavaplugin_oji.so is located at:
Is there something wrong with the path ?

I am relatively new to ubuntu and have all sorts of problems. First of all, none of my depositories work, but I'm fine with this. I think it is due to my uni wireless connection, as I haven't been able to update any linux distro here. That's the reason why I couldn't fetch the MPEG 1 Layer 3 (MP3) plugin that Rhythmbox offers me to download. So I looked for alternatives.
I installed some restricted extras package from the official ubuntu databases, but it was only 6 KB (should it be that tiny?) and when I tried again, it still wasn't working.

I'm just starting to get a feel for it, and learning about the software. I can't get m4a files to play in Rhythmbox - it says it needs additional plugins, but I don't know where to find them. suggest a link for an m4a decoder plugin, or different software that can play m4a files?

I was listening to music one day, and I decided that I wanted to watch a video on my laptop, so I put in the DVD, click play, and suddenly I'm missing the Windows Media Player 8 decoder. I try some of my other videos (of different formats, including .FLV and .AVI), and they're all missing different decoders. Also after that, and ONLY after that, RhythmBox can't find the decoder for .WMA files, yet it still plays .mp3, .ogg, .flac etc. I snooped around and downloaded various gstreamer plugins, and when that didn't work, I tried reinstalling all of them. Still no luck.
In short, I think part of my decoder and plugins folder got corrupted or deleted. VLC will play everything still. This is something I find bizarre.

I'm having some issue running a wine application, this seems to not start 'cause of some missing libraries.
So I tried to locate those and the only one I found is this:
# locate libxcb.so.1
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1.1.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1.1.0
These others don't show any result, but I checked and all the corresponding deb pkgs are installed (both amd64 and i386):
libx11.so.6
libxext.so.6
libgl.so.1
libc.so.6
What do you think I can do to resolve? I aleady tried a reinstall. Not tried to purge 'cause apt asks to remove half of the system.

I have been searching the internet in vain for the names of the packages that provide the following plugins for kdevelop in Debian Squeeze. The missing plugins are preventing me from testing the written programs.
Missing plugins:
1) C++ support
2) kdevcvs
3) make builder
4) output view
5) QtHelp
6) Subversion
The icons representing these plugins are all a question mark. I am assuming that means that they are missing. Needless to say, as it is, kdevelop is useless.

I have just downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop version and browsed the trial version without installing it onto my laptop. OK, I love it. I have decided to get rid of Windows 7 and install Ubuntu as the sole OS. However, I have got three questions before I do it.
1) Ubuntu couldn't detect any wireless networks. Was that because I run only the trial version? I am really concerned about it as I am a frequent Internet visitor.
2) Ubuntu preloaded movie and audio players couldn't play anything from my external HD. I got warning that plugin MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer was missing and couldn't be found (as I couldn't access Internet, I guess).
I suppose I will be able to download the missing plugins. This leads to question
3) Once I download the necessary missing plugins, what am I supposed to do with them? How to install them?

I was having trouble getting my 8.10 box to restart... it appeared hung on a line talking about alsa (I don't recall what it said). I started back up and the volume icon indicated it was muted. I unmuted and, lo and behold, I have no sound. So, I tried to follow the alsa upgrade instructions at [URL].
When I tried to run the second script:
Code:
sudo sh ./alsa_2.sh
I got this:
cp: target `/lib/modules/2.6.2*/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko' is not a directory
cp: cannot stat `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver*/modules/*': No such file or directory
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-14-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-15-generic/kernel/sound/'
And now my volume indicates it's muted again, and if I try to adjust it I get this error:
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured. You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.

The gstreamer-0.10 good plugins in CentOS 5.4 seems to be missing souphttpsrc. I looked online and can only seem to find references to it being in the bad plugins, yet the bad plugins documentation says it was moved to the good plugins. My experience downloading rpms is that the dependencies to build anything for gstreamer require I also download about 20 other rpms.I am reluctant to download/install rpms for a different distro.Has anyone successfully installed newer good plugins (particularly, souphttpsrc)?

It seems that no matter what I do, my box simply refuses to play DVD movies! I've already installed:
libdvdread libdvdcss libdvdnav gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad
As per the "Fedora FAQ", with the libdvdcss coming from Livna. Yet, even still, Totem will come back with "Could Not Read DVD". VLC acts the same.

I had just downloaded and installed Ubuntu. I had to manually install the Software Center. So I did that and installed a bunch of things including OpenJDK and its browser plugins. OpenJDK caused trouble in a game I play, so I installed Sun instead. However, that's the old version. I followed the above instructions, removed the old verisons and attempted to install the plugins. But unless I use the Software Center, it doesn't work. I'm cutting and pasting exactly and nothing shows up in my aboutlugin screen.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy. I tried to install Skype and it showed this error message "Skype dependency is not satisfiable libasound2". Then I check the synaptic manager it shows that the libasound2 is already installed. Then I reinstalled the libasound2 using terminal. But the error is still showing. On googleing I found in most of the forums the solution was to upgrade from edgy to feisty so it was no use to me.

I have installed db2 express-c on Ubuntu 10.04 server using apt-get; the installation is successful but I noticed that libasound2-dev package has been installed along with db2.I don't want this ALSA sound package, when I tried to remove it by "apt-get remove" it was trying to uninstall DB2 as well as there is a dependency. So, how do I remove ALSA package without removing DB2 ?PS: Also, db2 installed X11 packages like libx11-dev, libxproto-core-dev etc., which are also not need for me as it is a sever OS.

I can play WMAs with MPlayer but when I try to skip forward a few minutes it plays for a split second, and then plays at another random part of the video making it impossible to play a WMA from anywhere but the beginning.
Code:
mplayer -demuxer lavf ccent01.wmv.The above command opens the video but there is no menubar, scroll bar, or any reaction to right click although strangely scrolling my mouse wheel seems to randomly skip through the video. In VLC when trying to play the same file I get the error:
Code:
No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmas". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "MSS2". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. After converting the .wma file to .mpg, and also .avi using a command similar to:
Code: mencoder ccent01.wmv -ofps 23.976 -ovc lavc -oac copy -o ccent01.mpg. There is no change playing the file with mplayer and in VLC it now only gives one error: Code: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmas". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. I'm preparing for a Cisco exam later in the week and would like to spend tomorrow watching hours of computer based training videos but would rather not have to do it in Windows. Already tried using Media Player Classic in WINE but it crashed. Is there a workaround? Oh and I already have ubuntu-restricted-extras installed.
